Hi Lilly, I have a Brewer line in my genealogy and was wondering if we may be related. My Brewer was Delilah Brewer who married Aaron Barhite c. 1820 to 1825. She was born 12 Feb. 1800 somewhere in New York (probably Putnam or Dutchess County). She died 2 Oct. 1879 in North Salem (Westchester). I'm not sure who her parents were, but her father could have been Nehemiah. Does any of this sound like they might be connected to your Brewers? Any help would be greatly appreciated - this line has me stumped !! Bill Coley Orange, CT ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

Dear Willora--Ic case you have difficulty finding information for Courtland County--the spelling is CORTLAND COUNTY. I am from there but live in CA. This past month on a visit there--I again visited the very well run research room in their library at the Cortland County Historical Society.- of which I am a member. Have you asked also about the following resources? They have a large Surname File and a Surname Picture File and MANY other resources about the towns, villages and cemeteries DO write to them again if you think there might be more. . The director is Mary Ann KANE amnd they have many research helpers. They charge a reasonable fee and for copies and postage,of course. The address is on-line, I believe. The address is on Homer Avenue. Also, the Cortland City Library and the one in Cincinnatus might also have resources. On Oct 11, 2007, at 2:50 AM, Lilly Martin wrote: Hello everyone, I haven't posted in a long while, and have a new email address, so I will now state what research I am still working on. My ancestor was Jacob Brower b. May 8, 1772. He is believed to be the son of Nicholas Brouwer/Brower/Brewer b. 1714 NJ, who lived at Wappingers Falls, Dutchess Co NY from at least 1744 thru 1778, when he died. Nicholas ran a Flour Mill on Wappingers Creek, the area of Fishkill is associated with him. The home that his father built and left to him still stands today there, it is refered to as the Brewer-Mesier Home. After the death of Nicholas Brower/Brewer his wife, Sarah Drake, re- married to Stephen Callow, and they lived in Clinton, Dutchess Co NY. My ancestor Jacob Brower was raised by his step-father and mother, as he was only 6 yrs old when his father died. Sarah Drake was born about 1744, her parents are said to be John Drake and Sarah Trotter. Dear Lilly, This may be a clue about the DRAKE surname in case you have not had clues since you posted. There are families that I researched in early Westchester County . Many of these families moved up the Hudson River into Duchess County,NY .The DRAKE name popped up over and over in standard Westchester Co. records WESTCHESTER PATRIARCHS by Norman DAVIS has,for example ,at least 14 references in the index to DRAKE given names. EARLY WILLS OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY FROM 1664to 1784 by PELLETREAU has in the Index about 20 to25 such references. Have you tried these references? Perhaps they are on-line somewhere. They are in many libraries. C.J.Sheldon I have never found anyone researching John Drake and Sarah Trotter. I would like to know and share more about them. I found alot of Drake to Trotter marriages in New Jersey. I am wondering if Sarah Drake was raised in Dutchess Co NY? She was married in Poughkeepsie DRC. Normally the wedding is at the brides home church, so this may indicate she was from a Drake family in Poughkeepsie. I would love to know more about her particular Drake family. My ancestor Jacob Brower had 2 older half brothers, and he had 2 older full brothers. His closest brothers were Jeremiah Brower and William Brower. I have never found Jeremiah Brower later in Life, but there is a man named such who lived in Westchester Co NY who seems to correspond with the right time frame. Jacob Brower b. 1772 married Abigail Manning b. 1772. I presume she is of the same Manning families who lived at Clinton, Dutchess Co NY. This would mean that Jacob and Abigail were close neighbors and were raised in the same community. I believe that by 1800 Jacob Brower and his wife were living in Manhattan (NYC). I have not found their death records, or where they died, but I have found out alot about their children. As many of my fellow listers may know, Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery holds a special meaning for me since my maternal grandfather was a caretaker there in the 1920's. With that in mind I thought some of you might be interested in learning more about the "Friends of the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery" organization by clicking on the link below. http://www.geocities.com/ginnyflies/prcfriends.html Here you will also find links to articles in pdf format written by yours truly for the Friends Newsletter published twice a year. These articles center on specific Mausoleums/burial plots located in the cemetery, the history behind them and some history of those who repose there as it relates to our local history. In the past the "Friends" have purchased and planted trees for the cemetery to replace those which were destroyed by storms or disease. This is a program they hope to continue on a yearly basis. Among other activities, they sponsor walking tours and have refurbished the fountain in the cemetery lake and added an additional one. Their work is on-going to keep this historical spot on the majestic Hudson River the place of beauty, serentity and repose in the Hudson Valley it has become known as since its establishment in 1853.
