Abraham's first wife was Catherine Parks; I do not have her date of death. Susanna's first husband was Johnathan Gregory, who died 27 April 1862. Abraham and Susanna were married in 1863. I believe they were married in Canada, since their oldest child (dob 17 February 1864) was born in Ontario, Canada, according to census records. They were living in Illinois in1866 and 1871, when subsequent children were born to them there, also according to the census. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Isaac THOMPSON which was taken at the W. E. Bain Studio which I believe was in Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mr. THOMPSON appearing to be in his 80's at the time the photograph was taken. In addition to his name, someone has written "born Nov 18th 1796" and "A Merry Xmas and Happy New Year" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Isaac and his family: Isaac THOMPSON b. 18 Nov 1796 in Pittston, PA the son of James THOMPSON (b. 4 Jan 1759 in Ireland) and Susannah Jane SKELTON (b. 17 Aug 1750 in Buckingham, PA). Isaac married Mariah "Maria" WILCOX (b. Beekman, NY) on 18 Jun 1818. Isaac died 29 Sept 1900 in Lee, IL. Isaac and Maria had the following children, Matilda; Jane; Almon; Alva D.; Ezekial G.; Isaac; David; William H.; John W.; Francis Ashbury; George L.; Rhoda S.; and Gardner W. THOMPSON all born between 1819 and 1841 in PA. I've wandered all around Ancestry/RootsWeb the last week or so, and finally seem to have unhooked from my old address. Unfortuately, now I'm receiving 3 copies of the Digest at the above address. Can the Admin figure this out?? Having spent 8 or more hours, deleting all old addresses and passwords, I find Ancestry and Rootsweb still have them there. I'm ready to quit the whole darned mess at this point. I can no longer access Message Board, because every darned password and user name I enter is wrong, wrong, wrong. I am NOT a typist,do not use a computer gen. program,so this takes time. 1-Locate the book Westchester Patriarchs by Norman DAVIS.Heritage Books.1988. SEE pp.240 and 241. I am missing those pages but top of 242 indicates 3 para.s about TRAVIS, but given -names are alpha. and on page 242 begin with two Roberts,Sarah,Silas,Thomas,Titus, and a William.For these, tha date ranges are 1665-1836. if those names-any- ring a bell, let me know.There is a possibly helpful note under Titus which states that in the Peekskill Library, there is an extensive 'catalog' of thier descendants. Also, I do not have the index to this book but remember that their were other page references to TRAVIS'-no doubt involving marrital connections,etc.. 2-In the BOOK Early Wills of Westchester Co,NY from 1664-1784---in the INDEX---are listed 19 references to TRAVIS. Many could be as witnesses -only a signature--but these often indicate a closeness to the family with the Will: This might provide clues that the Witness was a] a neighbor / friend b] a relative c] a member of the church-group to which both belong. Quakers OFTEN had other Quakers witness business dealings for them because they were trusted. There is one John TRAVIS listed but I did not copy that page. ---Before I add more, did you know that there were more than one VAIL branch and,if they were related, it was in England or before the Quaker movement came into N.AM..? One way to discern the two familiesin Westchester andDuchess Counties is-- if there is mention of men in the military after about 1730 ,perhaps even before.These were NOT Quakere ,who would opposed fighting to solve disputes. There suffered MUCH community abuse for this stand,of course. Many moved to Canada.They would and did offer relief to victims of was: For example, during the British seoge of New York City in the AM.REV. War--the Quakers often sent food and other supplies into the city to aid displaced people there. In town records, Quakers were credited for doing this. Do you have a date of marriage for John TRAVIS and Esther [VAIL]?I would like to have it.I have Esther-4- VAIL, born 1728 in Westchester Co.,NY died 1807 with no place of death. The villages or areas listed in WEST.Co. where I would be searching for TRAVIS are Rye,Mamaroneck,NY.and WHIT E PLAINS. People from RYE purchased White Plains in 1683:In 1720, it was divided among 41 proprietors and a TRAVIS was among these men. This info. from French's Gazzetter.1860. A Travis,Joseph-about the same age as John--is also named in French's on p.699 as one of four men who settled Peekskill,NY in 1764. In 1 1763 list of Freeholders in Duchess Co.,NY :,in Mamaroneck there is a John TRAVIS,Yeoman. A Daniel TRAVIS on Mar.24,1746 marries Amy [GRIFFEN] Her parents were Susannah [HAIGHT] and Richard Griffen b.1732.He moved to Upper Canada---ONTARIO,Can. today. He might have been one who left for reasons of persecution. In my Quaker SMITH's of Duchess Co.,NY there are no TRAVIS listed in the marriage records so I presume they attended Monthly Meetings in different parts of Duchess Co. from each other. If you find your name/person it will give your the volume and page number. You can order/rent the microfilm of the book you need from the nearest Latter Day Saints (Mormon) with a Family History Center for about 6 something a microfilm OR pay sampub to copy the pages for you. (It is free to look at their transcribed index and can save a step in ordering microfilm.) For those without wills (and even with wills) you can order the index book for the surrogate records from the nearest LDS Family History Library. This index even gives the probate packet number for any papers which if they exist for your person (will or no will) you can then order/rent the microfilm that has that probate packet on it. All without leaving home and at less cost than doing it and getting copies at the probate office in Dutchess. A lot of times the copies will be better via microfilm because they were filmed 20 years ago or more when the paper was less aged. And sometimes you run across something the probate office deems to fragile to copy. There's a lot of good record sources filmed by the LDS that if they weren't filmed would only be available onsite in Dutchess County (or whichever area you are searching) . Do try to take a trip to enjoy the area and see/go to things you can't get to via internet if you can. Using the records filmed by the LDS can make you more informed before you get there. If there is such a book in anyone's possession, may I infringe on this researchers question. I am looking for wills of Walter G. Rhodes or any Rhodes at all. Would really appreciate getting any such information. This family did not leave much of a paper trail, even with 11 sons of Walter G. My husband's ancestor was Nathan Rhodes.
