This came across a county list this week - pretty neat: I was sent this link to thousands of records that London's famous Old Bailey prison has just put on line. Interesting to say the least. Since many early settlers were transportees, perhaps a relative will be found. http://www.oldbaileyonline.org.uk/ The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, 1674-1913 A fully searchable edition of the largest body of texts detailing the lives of non-elite people ever published, containing 197,745 criminal trials held at London's central criminal court. Due to high demand, the site is currently running slowly and some services may be temporarily unavailable. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused Tim Stowell Chattanooga, TN

In particular the "Mrs. Platt Mosher" It may be nothing, but I have a similar person: Phebe Mosher Garrison, wife of Platt. Info below. This could have been misread to be Mrs. Platt Mosher:e "Old Gravestones of Dutchess County, New York" by J. W. Poucher published in 1924, pages 110-117. CLASSIFICATION: Churchyard. LOCATION: In the city of Beacon, about two blocks north of the main street and two blocks east of the church building. CONDITION: Good. INSCRIPTIONS: 428 in number. Copied August 3 and October 1, 1916, by J. W. Poucher, M. D., and Mrs. Poucher.. REMARKS: In 1819 Methodists of the town of Fishkill began to hold services in a school house between Matteawan and Fishkill Landing on the old road, and a burial ground was opened. In 1824 a new road was laid out on which the congregation (known as the Matteawan Methodist Church) acquired a site and erected a building. This building was abandoned in 1860 for religious purposes, became known as Swift Hall and in 1890 burned down. In 1860 the congregation divided, one part building a church at the landing, the other in Matteawan. Recently a fund has been given for the perpetual care of this cemetery. 127. I have been trying to track down the date of death for a Joseph DICKINSON, who died between 1820 when his son James is born & 1845 when his brother John's will states he is deceased. Are there any census or other records for this area that could help me? Thanks, Carol L. Heap
Do you have a Joseph Dickinson, he was dead before 1845 when his brother John died, in Poughkeepsie, NY. Thanks, Carol L. Heap

He served as both an ensign and Lt in the Revolutionary war under Capt. Sackett in Thomas Thomas' Regiment. His named is spelled both as Mosier and Mosher in different pension documents - both have the same number, so it is definitely the same person. One of the more memorable skirmishes was at Bedford,Westchester Co., NY against the forces of Colonel James Holmes. I do not know who William Mosier married, but he had the following children: Coles, Amos, Miles, Henry, Charlotte (Isaac) Wood, Phebe (Platt) Garrison - my gggrandmother, - Elizabeth (william Henry) Tandy, Phebe married Platt Garrison, they had at least one child: William H. Garrison, b 4/13/1817. William H. Garrison married Hester Jane Scofield b. 8/4/1820, d. 8/12/1858 (she seems to have disappeared, I have no records other than the date of her death - I cannot find her parents, any siblings, etc.). William and Hester had 3 daughters: Mary, Francis b. 1/1/1852 and Lavina. Francis Married William Clarke. They had a daughter (and several other children) Emily. Emily married Gustave Wassweiler. They had a daughter, Gertrude. Gertrude married Thomas C. Tully. Anyone with any information (even suspected) on this line is encouraged to answer! I suspect that all of these families were in the Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess County area. THANK YOU!!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: WizenedWizard Surnames: Day Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.dutchess/9706.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My knowledge of the post-Revolution migration has all come from gradually being able uncover the trail of one set of ancestors. I found land petition records in Queen's Co., New Brunswick; and church records of St. John's Anglican Church, Gagetown, Queens, New Brunswick. My gggrandmother was born in 1807 in N.B., but married, lived and died in Northumberland Co., Ontario. My first reaction to discovering that she was born in New Brunswick was, "What on earth was she doing there???" She was a Quaker, and like many others, her parents had been exiled to New Brunswick after the war (research the Spring Fleet of 1783 from Huntington Bay, Long Island, to Gagetown). There's a wonderful short diary written by Sarah Frost, a passenger on one of those ships - worth purchasing on line if your ancestor made that journey. By the early 1800s, as decent farmland around N.B. became scarcer and the hostilities of the war were more or less forgotten, that grandmother's generation moved on. Some (like her and her brothers and father) went west up the St. Lawrence and settled in Ontario. Others returned to Long Island or the Hudson River valley. I've done a bit of transcribing of Quaker records from Ontario, and it was amazing to see the way folks traveled back and forth over fairly long distances. The difficulties of transportation and the time it took apparently were simply a part of life to be endured rather than not undertaken. If I were you, I would start by searching for church records on the surname of your ancestor: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbqueens/gageangbapt-ce.htm There are a number of Day references there. If you know the parents of John Henry Day - and if I were a betting person, I'd guess his parents might be Henry and Catherine from Long Island..., then search land records (petitions for land). These are on line, and you can order copies of them for a small fee. In them may be some clue as to where John Henry Day's parents came from. (They most probably got to N.B. in 1783 on the Spring Fleet from N.Y.) Why did he end up in the Hudson Valley? Possibly that's where his parents started out. During the hostilities of the Revolution, many loyal to the crown fled the Hudson Valley for the protection of New York, which was held by the British. When the war ended, they had no place to go (their farms up the river had been confiscated), and they were exiled to New Brunswick (actually part of Nova Scotia at the time). The name Day doesn't sound familiar to me in Quaker terms, but you might check Quaker records up and down the Hudson just in case. Good luck to you in solving this puzzle!
