My great-great-great grandmother was Emily E Fitch, who was born in Rhinebeck. I don't have much info on her or her family, but from what I've gathered her father's name was Daniel Fitch and her mother's name was Hellen Tover. I'm looking to verify that these are indeed her parents, and to maybe find out about other siblings and other info on the parents. Emily was born on Mar 2 1859. Thanks in advance!! 1. [NYDUTCHE] The Winegar Family
    2. Dear Vicky: I, too, am interested in the Winegar family, in the mid 1700's, at which point my William Mitchell married (13 Nov 1759, Amenia) an Elizabeth "Betty" Winegar, d. o. Garrett and Catherine (Snyder) Winegar. This happened about 1722 but I have no specific date or place for this marriage record, My interest shifts with this couple to the Mitchell family which evolved into my own. I did visit the library in Poughkeepsie (sp?) and gathered some information, but not too much. I know of Garrett and Catherine, and his father was Uldrich - Uldrick, married to an Anna Arnoldt. I also picked up on their residence at Hitchcock's Corner, and that he came from Switzerland and she from Wurttemburg. I will happily share what I have found with others with a similar connection. The connection with Palmateers to Dutchess County is provocative, as Sarah Cummings who married Olmstead and Lease was my great-great-grandfather David Cummings' daughter. David also shows up in Branch County, MI, by 1834 according to the History of Branch County, but was born in Dutchess County, NY, circa 1797 went to Ontario, Canada as a child, married Martha Sutherland in Canada, and had there daughters Susannah and Sarah (named for his older sister Sarah, called Sally who married Silas Sutherland in 1803, and this couple also went to Canada.) I haven't found reference to Hiram in this line, but Horace is a possibility, William and Major are certainties. Susannah Delamater was a daughter of Benjamin and Hannah (Row) Delamater. Sybil Goodrich was a daughter of Solomon Goodrich, the father of the Solomon Goodrich that married Susannah Delamater. What families are you researching from Amenia or Sharon? My main research has been dealing with the Goodrich's of Sharon, but I have quite a bit of information on others, especially if they somehow connected to these Goodrich's. Also, have you researched the town of Clinton at all? Benjamin Delamater actually died in Clinton although he spent most of his life in Amenia...so perhaps the marriage record could be found there. Interesting I have a Sybil Goodrich m 1787 Conrad Rowe & Benjamin Delamater m 1769 Hannah Rowe. Mystery as to who Sybil's parents may have been. Sources checked: NYG&B, NEHGS, General History of Dutchess County by Phillip Smith 1877, Newton's History of Amenia - quite a bit about Isaac Delamater & family but no women mentioned, and Sedgewick's General History of Sharon CT - does have a bio of William Goodrich, names the sons (Solomon included) but no daughters, and lastly Biographical Record of Dutchess County NY, J H Beers Co 1897. Have seen reference to "the city" & assumed it was Poughkeepsie but never knew for sure.....once in a while an oddball record like that will turn up in Sharon or Amenia so thought it worth a look. He allegedly was born in Prussia. Parents were Herman and Caroline Baker. Census records give conflicting info on Morris's place of birth. The Poughkeepsie 1900 census says he was born in Prussia. Then 1910, his daughter gives his birthplace as Germany, and her mom Mary's birthplace as Rhode Island. Then in 1900 Mary is born in Germany and Morris is born England??? What is going on? Can't find them in any immigration records I have seen. Morris first surfaced in NYC census in 1850 with his parents Herman and Caroline Morris, he was allegedly 8 yrs old. Does Anyone have any suggestions or other websites I can use to track back besides ancestry.com? Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Linda C. Koehler
    3. Madeline, In the far northwest corner of Amenia, there was an early settlement of three log houses fairly close together that was rather satirically referred to as "The City", later called Smithfield because of the church. A Congregational church was established there in the 1740's, later became Presbyterian, and its records have been published by Art Kelly as Smithfield Presbyterian Church. Like most of the Congregational churches in the eastern part of the county, it was hard to keep a settled minister, so records are sparse. For Smithfield Presbyterian, it is definitely a good news/bad news situation for you - they did have a settled minister at the church from 1775-1782, but the records are lost, possibly burned in a fire. Marriage records, as far as I know, don't start until 1835. I think 1787 may be the earliest records available, which would be lists of communicants or church members.
