I have no record of his children so have never followed them. I do have his parents and more info about his ancestors. The parents were Isaac Albertson 1742-1817 m abt 1767 to Mary Cheeseman 1742-1762. These two died quite young. I do have a copy of Mary's will. Dear Nan: This data was gathered, if my memory is right, on a visit to the library in Poughkeepsie, and was early in my involvement in genealogical research. There might be more there that I did not either know enough to pursue or was unaware of the importance of pursuing (on what was probably going to be my one and only visit to that source!!!). So, there might be more there, in Amenia church records. However, I do have something about the Winegars that might be of help to you. For whatever reason not known to me now, I also copied all of the marriages of the children of Garrett and Catherine (Snyder) Winegar except the 14th child, son Gideon. So, if the marriages of the other Winegar sons and daughters of this pair would be of value, I will happily copy them and either send them to you or post them the Dutchess County maillist. Dear Nan: I have not pursued the Winegar family other than to try and determine the ancestry of the Elizabeth "Betty" Winegar who married William Mitchell in Amenia, Dutchess, NY. This took place on 13 Nov 1759. I have determined from my research in the Library in Poukeepsie (sp?) that her parents were Garrett Winegar and Catherine Snyder, Grandparents were Uldrick Winegar and Anna Arnoldt and Heinrich Schneider and with wife unknown. Further than this I didn't go, because I was interested in following the Mitchell line down through their son Zepheniah Platt Mitchell. I hope that I have something in this area that would be of use to you, as I looked no further at that time, I am certainly a long way from Poukeepsie now, and don't have a note as to sources other than the marriage records of Amenia. Author: acerforestry1 Surnames: Carey, Cary Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.dutchess/9718/mb.ashx Message Board Post: To whom it may concern. I have been researching Thomas Carey, the father of Earl Holley Carey and Ransler Carey. I see some folks were doing research back in 1998 to 2002. My wife is a desendant of the Earl Holley line. The problem is there were two Thomas Careys living about 50 miles form one another both with the claim to being born in Fishkill, NY in 1776. They show up simultaneously in the 1830 and 1840 US census and are in the same age range. A Thomas Carey suposedly died Feb 22, 1841 in Wyoming Co., PA. The date is specific but I don't have proof. He is supposed to be buried in an unmarked grave in Starkville, PA next to son Ransler. A visit to the Stark cemetery was unsucessful (no Ransler Carey). The next step is to visit the geneology libary and and look into probate (wills). I had entertained the idea of Thomas having two families and two lives, faking a death in 1841 and finishing his life in Union, NY. However, the 1800 census with two boys under 5 years in Pawling, NY seems to point to the idea of two Thomas Careys (Cary) coming out of Dutchess Co., NY both about the same age. The one who married Polly in 1801 moved to Union, NY and had Thomas Jr., Sam, James, John, Charles, Ruth and William. The Thomas who moved to Tunnkanock, PA was living in Pawling in 1800, Dover, NY in 1810 and Putnam Co., NY in 1820. This is the father of Earl and Ransler. I want to be cautious about jumping back BUT I am always curious about why people move to certain locales. There were Careys that were in the Wyoming Valley prior to the Revolution but also note the name Stark. I think it was Dave Finn who posted in 1998 that the Nathan Carey (b. 1716) had a daughter Mary (b. 1746) who married a Willam Stark. They had 11 children. I have seen two birth dates for Thomas 1770 and 1776 both are possible for Mary. It was proposed that Thomas was raised by his Granfather Nathan and took the last name Cary. Earl and Ransler were both born in Powlintown (Pawling), NY. So, Thomas Carey would have had a connection to the Stark family in PA. Thus the connection to the Stark Cemetery in Starkville, PA. Also, consider there was a Thomas Cary living in Cambridge, Washington Co., NY (about 90 miles North of Fishkill, NY) in 1800 and 1810. As far as wives go, The Thomas in Tunnkannock, PA had a female living with him in 1830 and 1840 that was younger then him (two age ranges less). In 1850 there was a Lydia age 57 that lived with and E. Carey? Meanwhile, in 1850, there was a Polly Cary (age 64) living with Thomas (age 74). To further confuse things, the Thomas Carey in Tunnkanock, PA had children living with him in 1830 and 1840. No mention of Earl or Ransler having brother and sisters (or step brothers and sisters) in Wyoming Co., PA. Anyone from the Carys in Broome Co., NY or Wyoming Co., PA that contribute anything, it would be appreciated. Author: acerforestry1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.dutchess/4089.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Eight years later I hope you are still there. I started working on Thomas Carey this year. My wife is a desendant of Earl Holley Carey. I searched the US cesus for Thomas Cary and Carey in NY and PA from 1790 forward. The curious thing is there was a Thomas Cary living in Broome Co., NY and a Thomas Carey in Wyoming Co., PA at the same time and were in the same age range. Both are credited with being born in Fishkill, NY in 1776. However, Thomas in Tunnkanock supposedly died in 1841 (Feb 22) and Thomas in Union, NY was still alive in 1850. So there are two possibilities; one, one of the Thomas Careys (Cary) was not born in Fishkill in 1776 or; two, it is the same guy and faked his death in 1841. I talked to the genology libarian in Tunnkanock, PA. She has a letter in the file that says Thomas is buried in Starkvile, PA in an unmarked grave next to his son Ransler (Ramsler, Van Ransler). I visisted the Stark Cemetery in Starkville, no Ransler grave and only one Carey grave. Also, the stones aren't much older then 1860. You mentioned you found Thomas Cary in the 1820 census in Tunnkanock, PA. I didn't. I had a Thomas in Putnam Co., NY and Broome Co., PA. I visited the Nanticoke Cemetery in Broome Co. and found a Thomas Cary who was born in 1794 (this is probably the Thomas Jr. that shows up in other lines). There was also a Nathan Cary died in 1850 or 1860 (?) age 77 (?). Hopefully you are stil there. David, Fabius, NY Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
