    1. [NYDUTCHE] Rensselaer County Marriage Index
    2. Bill & Cathy McGrath
    3. The following message about the Rensselaer County Marriage Index, which was sent to the Troy Irish Genealogy List, may be of interest to members of this list, especially the comments at the end of the message. List members may be interested in the status of the Troy Irish Genealogy Project of automating the 10 Volume Rensselaer County Marriage Index. 1. Volumes 1 to 5, with their 32,000 names, are currently on-line on the TIGS website, www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ 2. Volumes 6 and 7, with their 8,000 names, are now being transcribed. All of the Grooms records have been data entered, proof read and analyzed for errors. About 75% of the Brides names have already been transcribed. When the remaining Brides files are finished and analyzed for errors, the Grooms and Brides names will then be combined by the marriage number, and hopefully, by August, will be put on-line on the TIGS website. 3. Preliminary work has started on Volume 8, with it's 4,000 names. As previously mentioned, the index pages for this volume do not show the marriage number and the date of the marriage. Several local TIGS volunteers have already started to look up the names in the Marriage Book itself, to obtain this information and post it to the photocopy of the marriage index page. Once that work has been done, the index page can then be scanned and sent to a transcriber. 4. The final two index books, Volumes 9 and 10, are similar to Volume 8, in that the index page does not show all the necessary information and look-ups in the Marriage Book will be required to obtain the missing data before the pages can be transcribed. The following comments about the marriage index may be of interest to family researchers. Having worked on the first 7 volumes of the index, I have observed that, in many cases, the place of birth or residence of the Bride and Groom and even the place of the marriage itself, is OUTSIDE of Rensselaer County and even OUTSIDE New York State. As an example, a record I was looking at the other day had the Groom residing and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania., the Bride residing in Detroit, Michigan, born in Jamestown, Pennsylvania and the wedding taking place in Troy. In looking up several family names on the index, I have also found prior marriages for the individuals that were not known to me. So don't discount checking out the index because it is Rensselaer County and your relatives didn't live there. You never know what you will find! Regards, Bill McGrath TIGS Project Coordinator Clifton Park, NY

Author: WSCHOF Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.dutchess/9731.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I believe his middle name was Wheeler yes. He had a son named Daniel Wheeler Fitch as well with another woman named Lucretia. I'm looking for info on both families, but I can start with Daniel Wheeler Fitch and his family. Here's a full list of everything I know about this family: Husband: Daniel Wheeler Fitch (born around 1823, died around 1900) Wife #1: Hellen Traver (Tover) (born around 1828) Children: Ann Elizabeth (born around 1847) Sarah J (born around 1848) Martha A (born around 1849) Joshua (born around 1853) G P (born around 1856) Emily Elizabeth (born Mar 2 1859) All of Daniel & Hellen's kids should've been born in Rhinebeck or Clinton. There may be more, but these were the only names I found in the 1850 & 1860 census reports. 1850 = Living in Rhinebeck; 1860 = Living in Clinton Wife #2: Lucretia ?? (born around 1836) Children: Elizabeth (born around 1866) Doretta (born around 1869) Daniel Wheeler (born around 1870) All of these kids may have been born in NYC. 1870 = Living in NYC; 1880 = Living in NYC (Manhattan) Now, Hellen Traver had a sister named Mary who lived with the Fitch's in 1850. Mary was born around 1834. Also, Daniel had a sister named Ann Eliza Purdy living with him in 1870 and 1880. She was born around 1810, which leads me to believe Daniel was the youngest child. Daniel's father was born in Connecticut, and his mother was born in New York. Hope this information helps!! Thanks again for your interest in helping me :) It is greatly appreciated! 2. Loreen, "Since there is discussion of Traver on this list, I have a Traver question I hope someone can answer. I would like to find the death dates and burial places for my gggrandparents, Harvey Traver and Catherine Nickle Traver. They were married on 1 Dec 1822 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rhinebeck. They are in Poughkeepsie census records by 1850. It looks like after 1850 they stayed in Poughkeepsie. At least 2 of their children are buried in Poughkeepsie Rural." Have you checked with Poughkeepsie Rural, a lot of smaller cemeterie's burials were removed to PRC. If you write to them and include a check for $20 they will do a search for , be sure to ask for a copy of any plot cards they have, these will lead to a great many more people including babies that died between the census years. Of course your first check should be Poucher's list on the the Dutchess website or Us Genweb site for NY state. That wouldn't cost anything. Thanks, Carol L. Heap FL

    3. I have not talked to them about Catherine and Harvey, although I have talked to them about others. Actually I pointed them to one burial that wasn't marked but was in their books. They found it after I gave them a d.c. and obit. This is good information. I will send them a request. Do you think if I give them a couple other Traver surnames I have, that they will do them all for that search fee? I don't know Poucher's list so I will look there too. Thank you kindly. Catherine was b. in Dutchess Co. ca. 1803. I believe Catherine died some time between 1860 and 1870 as she is in the 1860 census and not in 1870. Harvey was b. in Dutchess Co. ca. 1802. I believe he died in Poughkeepsie some time between 1870 and 1880. He is in the census in 1870, living with someone named Mariah Rion and her children. He appears not to be in the 1880 census. I think Mariah is Harvey's daughter Elizabeth, a Civil War widow. Loreen Wells

    2. DEAN V. DANNEWITZ
    3. I have gotten some excellent tips from this list. Through a lot of searching I have confirmed that my Great Great Grandfather John Pendlebury and his wife Alice are buried in the Old Grove Cemetery in Wappengers Falls close to the Zion Church. But I have failed to find clues as to what has happened to their family, Mary, Jane, Jacob, Elizabeth, Alice, Hannah (Anna) and Abraham who married Ellen Fawcett (taucet)(Faucet) in Poughkeepsie in 1845. Has anyone come across the name Fawcett or Pendlebury in any of their searches? These are names which transcribers never seem to get right. Dean
