    2. Lisa Boyle
    3. Nancy, I will try to answer and hopefully do the site justice. Mr. Samuelsen please forgive me if I don't. :-) You can find the following types of records: Wills <http://www.sampubco.com/#wills#wills> | Guardianships <http://www.sampubco.com/#guardianships#guardianships> | Naturalizations <http://www.sampubco.com/#naturalizations#naturalizations> | Letters of Administration <http://www.sampubco.com/#la#la> | Letters Testamentary <http://www.sampubco.com/#lt#lt> | Surrogate's Records <http://www.sampubco.com/#sr#sr> for certain states, areas, etc., that are accessible at this time. This search page is helpful: http://www.sampubco.com/wills/engine.htm For example, if you are looking for a Will click on the state you are looking for, if listed. If the state is not listed Mr. Samuelsen does not have access to those records. Once you click on a state you have the option of counties that are available. Under each county is an alphabetical range for surname, click on the one that corresponds to who you are looking for. You will be taken to a list of names of wills that are available. If the name of the person is a link (clickable) then the link will take you to where the will is posted. If the person's name is not a link (clickable) you can order that will from Sampubco. Your cousin Dutton once wrote me that he had Lettie's bible so you might have more access to that. He didn't share any of it. To the best of my knowledge no one has written a book for our Voughts yet. There are still some brick walls in my way. Lots of clues but don't know where to find the answers. I keep trying. For my branch of the Voughts my ggrandmother Vought gave the most important family bible that belonged to the son of Henry b. 1760....John C Vought b. 1784 to a son who's family lost it sometime around 1990. John's daughter Maryette received a bible in 1844 probably as a wedding gift but it began with her and her husband's descendants. I copied all the family pages but what we really need is earlier info for the family. I didn't receive any notice from ancestry that you had replied. Just stumbled across your June 2008 query this morning. I've tried to change to my newest e-mail address on Ancestry but was unsucessful. Right now I still have the one posted for only two more months. Merry Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [NYDUTCHE] DANIEL AND AMOS NETTLETON
    2. Leslie B. Potter
    3. Tim, Prior to the enlistment policy being changed after the Civil War, all county militia regiments were raised from political subdivisions within each county. For example the 12th Regiment of the Albany County Militia was raised from the Half Moon Tax District of Albany County and the 13th Regiment of the Albany County Militia was raised from the Saratoga Tax District of Albany County. A man named Amos Nettleton lived in Dutchess County, NY during the Rev War because his is listed as having served in the Second Regiment to the Dutchess County Militia. This man is the only man by the name of Amos Nettleton whose name appears in the index of Roberts' "New York in the Revolution as Colony and State". However, what I can not tell you is from which political subdivision within Dutchess County the Second Regiment was raised. I have already posted a query asking from which part of Dutchess County the Second Regiment was raised. However, I have not received a response. I shall also post this query on the NY Military e-mail list and see if anyone on that list knows. Although I know that a man named Amos Nettleton lived in Dutchess County during the Rev War. I have no idea if he is the Amos Nettleton whom you are seeking. Land and church records would probably be more helpful in that task. (Deeds always tell you where the parties to the transaction resided at the time of the conveyance.) 3. I also have a Van Renselaer with surname "Sewell" in my family. I have chased after the first name trying to locate a connection of some kind to the Hudson Van Rensalears but have found none. This Van Renselaer was born in VT to Taber & Deborah Deuel Sewell. I also went chasing after the Taber family looking for a connection because of that first name as the identification of Taber's mother hasn't been made. He and Joseph Sewell Jr. were sons of Joseph Sewell born in Mendon Worcester Co., MA in 1737. It is thought that Joseph Sewell Sr arrived in NY due to the old French & Indian Wars around 1756. Joseph Sewell Sr, his sister(s) Anna (who later married William Soule), Elkanah & Margaret Sewell Sherman, and Lemuel (often transcribed as Samuel) & Rebekah Sewell Lewis all resided in Beekman Precinct Dutchess Co., NY between 1757 & 1762 for certain as they all sold their MA land willed to them by Timothy Sewell, the Sewell children's father. The trail is somewhat cold for all except for the Soules there after until they turn up in VT & Canada around 1790 there after. I think this Sewell family was originally of Quaker roots; however, I have never been able to prove it. William Soule was a rather famous Loyalist whose lands in Columbia Co NY were confiscated during the revolution. Whether or not they were confiscated because he was a Quaker or a Loyalist or for some other reason is unclear; but the confiscation in itself pushed him over the edge and a Loyalist he became. This Sewell/Soule family and their familial allies were a tight knit group and tended to migrate together. I have searched for years for a WIFE for Joseph Sewell Sr for years with no success. I suspect the marriage took place in Dutchess Co or what is now Columbia Co. Of Course all easily accessed records in NY have been searched. Known children were Bridget, Joseph Jr., Tabor, and Catherine. 3. Hello Nancy: Not familiar with any English site per se, but I have the following comments: 1. While our website is called the Troy Irish Genealogy Society, all of our data bases, with one small exception, cover Irish AND Non-Irish names. Our articles in the History section of the website are mainly concerned with Troy history as a whole and are not limited to Irish related articles. 2. Another great website that covers Troy and Rensselaer is the Rensselaer County Rootsweb site, which by the way, is run from London. The address is: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyrensse/ 3. Pat Connors site, run from California, has tremendous amounts of data for Troy and other locations in New York State. Lots of census data, immigration data, etc. Address is: www.connorsgenealogy.com Regards, Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY Original Message ----- From: "Nancy" <nbonifield@netonecom.net> To: <nydutche@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 04, 2008 12:30 PM Subject: Re: [NYDUTCHE] Rensselaer County Marriage Index > Hi Bill, > > I love this site, Do you know if there is an English site just like it? > > Thanks > Nancy
