    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ShelleyD39 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.dutchess/6133.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi - wow..you posted this question in 2005...let's see if the quote, "better late then never" applies. I purchased an 1850 farmhouse about 5 years ago, rented it for 2 years, started to remodel the house in 2005, moved in in 2007, and have started gradually investigating the history of this old charmer. Although this processes has just begun, I am hopeful I will be able to acquire more information and photos to add to the already intriguing finds. I did come across the following .... Deed from Coursen H. King and Marcella C. King to Isaac Burdick, recorded Dutchess COunty Clerks office 4/26/37 in Liber 559 of deeds - pg. 114 If the birth of Coursen was 1864 - the 1937 date seems feesible. AOD @ 73 years. I welcome any info you have on this couple who are obviously a part of my home. Thanking you in advance -md Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [NYDUTCHE] Amos NETTLETON and Daniel NETTLETON
    2. Leslie B. Potter
    3. Dear List, I always like knowing the end of the story. So let me tell you what I found out about Amos Nettleton and his brother, Daniel Nettleton, with the help of two members of the Albany County e-mail list. (The two Albany County List members were Donna [no last name given] and Janet Haseley, Research Chair, Rensselaerville Historical Society). I had run the whole list of surnames enumerated in the September 18th, 1779 Minutes of the Commissioners for Conspiracies past the several of the county lists and received two responses pertaining to the other men, who had been the subject of the Minute from the Commissioners on Conspiracies along with Daniel Nettleton. These responses helped me hone in on Amos and Daniel Nettleton. Amos Nettleton lived in Dutchess County and served in the Second Regiment of the Dutchess County Militia during the Rev War. At some point Amos Nettleton removed from Dutchess County and settled in the Rensselaerwick District of Albany County prior to the 1790 U.S. Census being taken. Daniel Nettleton apparently had settled in the Half Moon District of Albany County. He had been there long enough and was prosperous enough to have been listed on both the March 2, 1779 and the October 23, 1779 Half Moon District Tax Lists for Albany County, NY. According to Tim Fenton, Daniel had applied for land in Canada by 1791. Coldham's "American Loyalist Claims" gave me the information on Joseph Knapp, one of other men from the Half Moon District, who had been hauled before the Commissioners for Conspiracies with Daniel Nettleton in 1779. Knapp had been driven from his farm in the Half Moon District of Albany County in 1781 for harboring 19 members of the British army. Coldham states that Knapp escaped to Canada with seven others. I suspect that there is the real possibility that Daniel Nettleton, of the Half Moon District of Albany County may well have been one of those seven. Admittedly there was nothing straight forward about this research, but all is well that ends well, no matter how circuitous the route. Sincerely, Leslie Potter Glen Mills, PA

Looking for information on Timothy Shaw (1715-1779) - his siblings and ancestors and anything else:- TIMOTHY1 SHAW was born 1715 in ..., Ireland, and died 1779 in New Lotts (now part of Brooklyn), Kings Co., New York.. New Claim - February 23, 1787. … He (John Shaw, Timothy Shaw’s son,) lived in Dutchess Co. Joined the Brit. Govert. In New York. … confined several times which obliged him to go within the lines for protection … Had a farm in Dutchess Co., … Claimt. is his only son. Has a sister living in the States. There appears by survey 186 acres … His father had been a Loyalist … 04) William S. Pelletreau, History of Putnam County, New York, With Bibliographical Sketches Of Its Prominent Men (Philadephia: W.W. Preston, 1886, ISBN 0-89062-006-7), refers to Timothy Shaw: - 04.1) Timothy Shaw defends the land claims of of the Philipse Family against the Nimham First Nations in an "Affidavit of Timothy Shaw, 1767". … Timothy Shaw made his home at the north end of the lake which from him took the name of Shaw s Pond until it was changed to Lake Gleneida. 04.3) In old burying ground on the Belden farm, at the southwest corner of Lake Gleneida, and where the slaves of the Belden family were buried in a small enclosure surrounding a single grave and a head stone recording the death of Deborah Shaw, who died May 5th., 1824, aged 84. She was an “alleged” white woman … She requested to be buried in that place because, as she said, "my ancestors lie there." It is probable that she was the daughter of Timothy Shaw and that a family burying place was there in early times. (Pelletreau, p. 282) 05) "...A family of the name of Shaw soon settled at Carmel village, on the north and south shores of the lake which still bears their name. ... situated on Shaw's Lake ... " The History Of Putnam County, William J. Blake, Pub. by Baker & Scribner (146 Nassau Street, New York, N.Y.), 1849. 06) I strongly disagree with Kenneth Linwood Shaw's assertion that Timothy Shaw (1715-1779) was a son of, even though he quotes me as a source for the Shaw Family information that I have sent him. There is no proof as to his assertions of Timothy Shaw's parentage. His allegations are as follows: Father: Israel Shaw b: 29 JAN 1659/60 in Page 20, Little Compton Town Records, Newport County, Rhode Island, New England; Mother: Mercy Tallman b: 1674 in of Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany. This is where I find his research: "John Shaw of Plymouth Plantation in Progress" to be flawed. Check: Muster Rolls of New York Provincial Troops, 1755-1764. 3. Hi, I just spoke to my nephew, who works at the Astor Home in Poughkeepsie. He is pretty sure that the Rhinebeck Astor Home in 1940's was probably where your brother was placed. It was originally set up to treat sick kids, but now specializes in treating kids with emotional problems. And, yes, it was staffed by nuns. -R.
