it is in plain view. You have to click "How to Order" which go quick to the line "Jump to Order form" and from there to the appropriate form. After a long search through online cemetery records I was finally able to find my Great Great Grandparents John and Alice Pendlebury who died August 17, 1849 and July 21, 1849 respectively and are buried in Old Grove Cemetery at Wappengers Falls. Yes, they apparently died within one month of each other. I have written an email to the Rector of the Zion Church nearby asking for any information the church may have on the couple, but have not received a reply. I am searching for information about the family who came from England in 1842 to New York. The family of nine consisted of John , Alice, Mary, Jane, Jacob, Elizabeth, Alice, Hannah and Abraham. Abraham married Elinor Fawcett in Poughkeepsie in 1845 and a son George H. was born there. But that is all that I have been able to find about the rest of the family. They have not been found in any available census I know of. Is there anyone who could help me find this family and what happened to them? Dean V. Dannewitz

Clark *Above this article is a photo with the following caption: "Removal of 72 bodies from a cemetery on the Gallaudet Home for Deaf Mutes property, South Road, is underway this week under the supervision of Robert H. Auchmoody, standing top, funeral director. The bodies will be reburied in a plot in the Wappingers Rural Cemetery. Assisting Mr. Auchmoody are Purcell Higgins, left, and David Evans, right, members of his staff." (Printed Copy of Picture not of sufficient quality to scan and post) Seventy-two graves in the Gallaudet home on the New Hamburg Road, Town of Wappinger, are being opened and the remains of 72 former residents at the Church Mission to Deaf Mutes' Home are being removed to the Wappingers Rural Cemetery for reburial. The old cemetery, which is located on a hillside just west of the main home of the institution, is being vacated to provide for expansion of the enormous holdings of the New York Trap Rock Co. The latter company plans to "wash away" under heavy pressure of water, the rolling hills on the vast estate, to obtain more rock. Purchased This Year The Gallaudet Home property was purchased earlier this year by the New York Trap Rock Co. at a cash price reported at $85,000. The company is leasing the property to the home for a period up to five years, at $1 per year, to afford the mission an opportunity to buy or rebuild a new home. The 106 acre estate, with a huge stone building as the main home of the institution, adjoins the Trap Rock property at Stoneco, which is just south west of the Gallaudet Home. After purchasing the property, the New York Trap Rock Co. officials, purchased a large plot in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, to provide space for burial of deceased residents of the Home. Robert H. Auchmoody, undertaker and funeral director, who has parlors in Grand Avenue and at Fishkill, is directing the removal of the remains of the 72 late residents of the Home to the new burying ground. At the cemetery yesterday, Mr. Auchmoody, said that the job of transferring the graves to Wappingers Falls, probably will be completed some time next week. With his two staff assistants, Purcell Higgins and David Evans, Mr. Auchmoody yesterday directed the removal of several of the bodies. He explained, "each body is placed in an individual box for reburial." Sometime ago, relatives of the late residents were notified of the plans for the transfer of the graves to the new plot. Many sent word to the officials of the home, giving their consent, and relatives of a few could not be located. Those who could not be located by letter, were notified through publication of of an order signed by County Judge Flannery, explaining the purpose for the transfer of the graves. First Buried in 1890 The first resident of the home who was buried in the Gallaudet cemetery west of the main home, was recorded in Mr. Auchmoody's records as William T. Atwood, who was buried in 1890 at the age of 80 years. Mr. Auchmoody said the last person buried in the cemetery off New Hamburg Road was listed as Clara M. Kohl, wo was interred in 1944 at the age of 63 years. (*one line of article bad in film here*) stones, showed that Bonaventure Clark, who died in 1910 at the age of 92 years, was one of the oldest residents of the home to be buried in the institution cemetery. Upon opening the graves, Mr. Auchmoody and his aides, found many of the bodies well preserved. While the present home was occupied in 1903, the property of the original home was purchased from Isaac Nicholas Frost in 1885, and the stone home was provided in 1886. That home was destroyed by fire in 1901, and during the period of 1901 to 1903 the patients were accommodated in the former Pelton house, now the home of the Poughkeepsie Day Nursery in North Clover Street. Author: potts13 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.dutchess/6133.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, I can tell you some about Coursen H. King. I'm not actually any relation to this family, but have been researching the family of the artist Louise Howland King, who is Coursen's sister. The links Jeff posted take you to some other posts I made about Coursen's father. The name Coursen apparently came from his father's grandmother, Sarah Coursen. The name was passed down in each generation: Septemious King and Sarah Coursen had a son George Coursen King, who had a son James Coursen King, who was the father of Coursen H. King. Coursen's maternal grandfather was William Stott of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, who was a ship captain and moved with his family to Honolulu in the late 1850s. Around this time also James C. King, originally from Morristown, NJ, went to San Francisco, and later also to Honolulu. There he married Capt. Stott's daughter Anna. Son Coursen was born in Honolulu, and daughters Louise and Mary/Polly in San Francisco. By 1870 the family had moved to New York City, where they appear in that census. As I said in the posts that Jeff linked to, James and Anna's marriage fell apart, and James ended up killing the man he thought was his wife's lover, and was sentenced to life in prison. In the 1880 census the three children are in boarding school in Morris County, NJ, James is in Auburn State Prison, and I have not been able to find Anna. (James was released from prison in 1891 and last heard from in Calgary; Anna died in New York City in 1931.) Coursen married around 1884 in NJ to Mattie Freeman, with who he had four children. They're listed in 1900 in Westfield, NJ. She died by 1909, when he married Jennie Perry. Jennie is with him in the 1910 and 1920 censuses, Ossinging and Clarkstown, NY, respectively. Coursen married Marcella Kramer ca 1926, and they're listed in 1930 in LaGrange, Dutchess Co, NY. I had looked at the Dutchess County deeds index last year and the last deed I found for Coursen was 1939, so he was living at least up until then (unless the deed was part of probate for him?). I wrote to the town clerk in LaGrange, though, and was told they had no death record for him. So I still haven't been able to track down his death date. I did find Marcella King mentioned in an obit for her brother Harry Kramer in 1967, so she was apparently still living then, though the obit did not say where. I've found plenty of connections in later years between Louise Cox King, her sister Polly, and her mother Anna, but no connections between any of them and Coursen. I always wondered if perhaps he took his father's side in the whole divorce/murder mess, and there was a breach between him and his mother and sisters. But that's just speculation. Let me know if you have any questions. I may be able to fill in some more. jp Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I don't know when Coursen died, but I did trace the census reports and there are interesting features. Coursen appears in 1880 (indexed incorrectly by one service as "Conice" although the inscription could be "Courser"), 1900, 1910 (as B. H. King, I don't know why), and 1920 (C. H. King), born in the Sandwich Islands to a father from NJ and mother from MA. He appears in the 1880 report at age 16 with no obvious parent but "at home" so probably with a relative, and with two sisters born in CA, ages 14 and 13. I didn't find anything in the CA 1870 census to connect to a parent, however. Coursen did eventually have children; four of them show on the census report in 1900 when he was living in Union Co NJ >From our perspective, the interesting questions is Where did he get the "Coursen" name? For a given name, a starting guess is that the parents appropriated the surname from someone they knew. We do have a record of a Corson in Hawaii, but there is no apparent connection. It may be a stretch, but it could be significant that each of the places Coursen lived in 1900, 1910, and 1920 are places where the Corsa family was present at least as early as when Coursen was born. In 1920, for example, he was living in Clarkstown, Rockland Co NY, and we know that the Corsa family (sometimes in the broader family known as Courser) was there about 1840-1860. A connection of that sort, however, even if correct, is pure speculation unless something more can be found to corroborate it. And this is all I've got. - Gale Corson I then did a little search on my own and found this subject had been previously posted on the CORSON list, and a quick search of the Corson list archives yielded this: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/corson/2005-05/1116113914 His father is identified therein. and this with his grandparents and greatgrandparents: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/corson/2005-06/1118403911 Hope this helps. Carol, Poucher's Old Gravestones of Dutchess County includes inscriptions from the Methodist Churchyard of Matteawan (now part of the city of Beacon). Christ United Methodist Church on Philips St. in Beacon has custody of the records of both the Metteawan and Fishkill Landing Methodist churches, although there is some question as to whether they will have records as early as you are looking for (the records are probably missing).
