There were a number of Massachusetts residents who crossed into NY to be married by Justices of the Peace because they did not have to wait for the posting of banns. In one case that I know of, a daughter of a JOP was able to find a record of a marriage performed by her father to verify a marriage for a civil war pension but I do not know if those records found their way to a better repository. Tewksbury senior member of the firm of A. W. Tewksbury & Sons, died at his home in West Randolph, Vt. Thursday morning, aged 85 years. Mr. Tweksbury was born July 30, 1798, in New Boston, Nh. where he lived until 1855, when he removed to Vt. May 13. 1823 he married Abigail Balch who died in 1826, her tow children dying very young. Nov. 26, 1828, he married a Annis C. Cockran of New Boston who survives him. For sixty-two years he was engaged in mercantile business, and in all that period was never away from his work for any length of time except when confined to his home by sickness. In the old town of New Boston he served as town clerk for twelve years. Town Treasurer for ten years, and treasurer and collector of the Presbyterian society sixteen years. He was also treasurer of the New Boston Mutual Fire Insurance Co. fouteen years. As a business amn Mr. Tewksbury was always prompt, careful, straightforward and reliable. As a citizen mo nam was held in higher esteem wherever he was known. He was most emphatically a self made man. His private life was without a stain; his character above reproach. He was very public spirited, and always labored for the best interests fo the town in which he lives. In social life he was of remarkable even temper, always obliging to every one and kind to the poor. The town history of New Bosto! ns sayd of him "He is noted for his liberality, his strict integrity, the church, the Sunday school, and everything good has in him a friend and supporter." In his death the community has met with a great loss. He lived a long and busy life, outliving the most of the business companions of his prime in Boston and elsewhere. An intense suffer in his later years, and especially in the past summer, he at last sank peacefully away. He leaves a widow and four children, all living in the place where he died. I have traced her to that address but have not been able to locate her after her husband's death last year. I spoke to one of the neighbors that remembered her when they lived in that apartment. She was under the impression that she had died too. I can not find a record of her death through the Social Security Index on ancestry.com or any obituary. I do not know if there is a relationship to Pryce and Irene but will definitely check it out as well as any probate records I can find. Once again thank you for taking your time to get the information for me and the suggestions of where I can look for more info.
