    3. Susanne, You may be pointing me in the right direction. The only source I have for my ancestor's first name is from her husband's records, and as he was German, he could well have used the Americanized form. I don't have any official records. The same source does say her father's name was Lawrence, and she named one of her sons that. She named another Nicholas. He was never called Claas as far as I know, but his son Nicholas was. Are you saying that Neeltje's father and maternal grandfather were both Schermerhorns? Were they related? Do you have any dates for the younger Neeltje? I have Ellenor b. April 22, 1781. That would be consistent with the birthdates for Laurens and Geesje. Do you know anything else about the family, like places? I have the very delicate and tattered page from her New Testament listing her children, but it doesn't have her name on it. That would have helped! Why didn't our ancestors think of things like that! I'm still looking for that discrepancy in the number of children in her records and her husband's records, but sorting out who she is and who her parents were would be a great start.
