I'm new to this list. Looking for ancestors of Ellenor SCHERMERHORNE b. April 22, 1781. Some of what I know about her is well documented because I have original family documents. Some is speculation based on those records and information I've found from others. Another source gives b. 27 June 1809. Both my records and the other source show she married Henry BASTION, and the only child the other source gives matches one in my records. My records show her father as Lawrence, the other source shows Evert SCHERMERHORN and Elisabeth UNKNOWN. Because both the other source and I have matches on spouse and child, I assume we're talking about the same person. The rest of this is based on my information and speculation. My records show Ellenor and Henry (b. March 8, 1783) m. March 24, 1802. A page written out by the third son, Nicholas S.H. (my ancestor), gives their children as follows and says it's from his father, Henry's family records: Lawrence S. Bastion b. Dec. 13, 1802 John Bastion b. July 27, 1805 Nicholas S.H. Bastion b. June 11, 1808 Eliza Catherine Bastion b. March 8, 1811 2nd dtr b. oct 10, 1813, "died the same instant" Ellenor's Bible printed in Amsterdam in 1734, has a list which says "My children": Clarasa b. Oct 1, 1799 the children listed above, except that for the stillborn daughter it had "second" crossed out and "third" added Peter Y. Bastion b. 1815 Aug 3 Eve E. J. Bastion 1818 March 12 Helen Marie 1821 February 21 (the child the other source mentiions) I have no idea why the discrepancy in number of children. Clarasa may have been Ellenor's by a prior marriage. One might guess the younger ones died, but Henry was living with Helen and her family in Jackson Co. IN when he was 66, so at least she survived. Henry's family were German, and the immigrant was his father. I assume Ellenor's family was Dutch, based solely on the Dutch Bible. I assume NY connections for Ellenor because another source (not the one mentioned above) says Henry was born in NY, along with Nicholas and Helen. Don't know about the others. My records indicate Nicholas was born in Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., but I have been unable to find any inforrmation on Co. sites or 1790/1800/1810/1820 Co. census site for either surname. The family moved to IN in the early 1820's. Can anybody help sort out the discrepancies in either family? I have three generatiions before Henry, and much on Nicholas's descendants to share. Any help would be appreciated. Doris Waggoner Seattle ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
