I am not sure how to introduce myself. I am new to this list. E.R. IRWIN and C. VANDECAR were the parents of Robert IRWIN, born 1858 in New York. Oral history has it that a woman in our family gave birth soon after getting off a ship. Oral history also says that we have a Dutch background. Any suggestions on how to check ship arrivals around this time? The 1860 New York census lists an Edward IRWIN and a George IRWIN living in Chautauqua, Chautauqua, New York. These may or may not be related to "my" IRWINs. George M. IRWIN (a minister, denomination unknown) performed the marriage of Robert IRWIN, born 1858, NY, and Catherine LANE, born 1856, KY. The marriage took place 14 JAN 1879 in McLean County, Illinois. I'd be most grateful for information about my IRWIN and Vandecar ancestors.
