    3. No, Libby, according to NY Dutch topic- listing. which I read when I subscribed....this list "NY Dutch" is only for those Dutch who arrived in US after the 1800's and NOT for topic of the Dutch Colonies. But thanks I have found what I needed...thanks to those who responded. Jeannette

    1. Re: [NYDUTCH] Olivers from New York
    2. Lisa, Welcome to the NY Dutch List. For starters, I'm very curious as to how you know that 1680 is the birth year and Jun 1719 is the death date for Charles Oliver? Do you have documents with this information? Charles' will that was proven June 12, 1719 does not have a *written* date. Therefore, we cannot assume that he died in that Jun or even in that year. I haven't been able to find out much at all on this Charles, or his family. In his will, the only children mentioned are Elizabeth, Robert, George and Jane. Yet, there is a Richard Oliver who married Martha Bennews/Bennoit in the Albany RDC on 29 Oct 1734 as "Ritsert Olfert and Martha Benewe". But I can't find any connection between this Richard and Charles Oliver. This Richard and Martha had a son John bp. Albany RDC 6 Oct 1738. Is this *your* John Oliver? 1. [NYDUTCH] new member - searching for Hülskämper/Hülskemper
    2. Karen Wolzanski
    3. Hi - I am a new member and would like to tell you about my NY Dutch ancestors. I hope one of you will be able to give me hints on where to search for information. My ancestor, Johann Wilhelm Hülskämper, was born in Mimmelage (a small village near Badbergen), Hannover, Germany on 5 May 1797. He moved to Monnickendam, North Holland before 1822 when he was a witness at a marriage. He married in Monnickendam on 25 May 1823 to Juliana Hoppe. She was born in Monnickendam in September 1793, the daughter of Jochem Andries Hoppe and Grietje Jacobs Wülk. I have found 2 children of Willem (as he was known in Holland) and Juliana born in Monnickendam: Jan Arend b. 6 November 1823 and Grietje b. 25 March 1825. There may have been other children born elsewhere. Both Willem's uncle, Dirk Hulskemper, and his brother, Harmen Hulskemper, were also residents of Monnickendam. Willem and his family arrived in NYC on 7 August 1845 on board the ship Angelique from Amsterdam. They were listed on the manifest as: Willem Hulskemper, 47, "Taylor", Hannover Juliana Hulskemper, his wife, 50, Netherlands Johan Arend Hulskemper, 21, "Taylor", Netherlands Dirk Hulskemper, 18, Netherlands William Hulskemper, grocer, on Grand was listed in the NYC Directories from 1849 to 1851. He was listed in the1865 Elizabeth, NJ directory as a grocer at E. First. He apparently had died after the directory had been published, because his death certificate gave his death date as 26 December 1864, Elizabeth, NJ. William's son, my ancestor, Johan Arend (aka John A.) Hulskemper, was married on 23 September 1849 to Mary Helen Brickwede. Mary Helen was born 2 December 1829 in Grönloh (a small village near Badbergen), Hannover, Germany. John A.was naturalized on 12 November 1859 in NYC and was listed in the 1860 NYC census, 17th ward, as follows: John Heulskimber, 36, tailor, Holland Mary " , 37, Germany Julia " , 9, NY, in school William " , 6, NY, in school He was in the 1863/4 NYC Directory as a cutter on First, but by 1866 he had also moved to Elizabeth, NJ. John A. and Mary Helen weren't married in Holland, but were they married in NYC or did he go back to his father's home town in Germany? They had 3 children born in NYC...where were they baptised? Does anyone know which church a Dutch immigrant living in the 17th ward would have belonged to? Karen Wolzanski

    3. I am not sure how to introduce myself. I am new to this list. E.R. IRWIN and C. VANDECAR were the parents of Robert IRWIN, born 1858 in New York. Oral history has it that a woman in our family gave birth soon after getting off a ship. Oral history also says that we have a Dutch background. Any suggestions on how to check ship arrivals around this time? The 1860 New York census lists an Edward IRWIN and a George IRWIN living in Chautauqua, Chautauqua, New York. These may or may not be related to "my" IRWINs. George M. IRWIN (a minister, denomination unknown) performed the marriage of Robert IRWIN, born 1858, NY, and Catherine LANE, born 1856, KY. The marriage took place 14 JAN 1879 in McLean County, Illinois. I'd be most grateful for information about my IRWIN and Vandecar ancestors.
