Evidently no one is. I don't believe I'll locate proof of Lott's parrentage on the 1760 census. Many other lists are extremely helpful. I have tried my hardest in researching my family and have come to the conclusion they couldn't write their name correctly anywhere. I've even examined the "Oneida Native American lineage"., but there is no John Deney born 1815 with a wife named Luzetta. I think I've pretty much filtered the Deney/Dana/Denny lines in that New York Area. Now I wondering if the name TENNEY OR TENEYCK was the original spelling. If anyone is a more experienced researcher than me I could really appreciate some more input. My Denney/Deney family lived in New York and ended up in a very small town called Ellisburgh (aka Minos) in the southern part near the Oswego County border where this area has been subdivided so many times in different counties, that checking historical films has been interesting and frustrating. I'm putting all the facts here as I have a strange feeling that my lines may be connected to the Abraham Tenney & Rose Chandler lines. My grandfather once said his one of his grandmother's name was Rose, and the other weird thing, we could never figure out where the name "Chandler" came from. He was the first born and no other Chandler Denney is found. This is my family: JOHN DENEY'S WIFE Luzetta Deney's Obituary December 12 1904 Sunday Morning between the hours of four and five occured the death of Mrs. Luzetta Deney at her home in this city, the the advanced age of eight-seven years. Luzetta McNitt was born in Ellisburgh, Jefferson County, New York September 15 1817. She was the oldest of four children, all preceding her in death, her only brother passing away at Owatonna only two weeks ago. In 1832 she was married to John Deney, living in Jefferson County until 1844, when they moved in Dundee, Illinois where they resided for five years moving back to New York, where they resided until 1861 when they came West to Wisconsin. In 1863 they removed to Morristown, which place the concluded to make their final home. Mr John Deney departed this life sixteen years ago. She has been living alone attended only by her granddaughter. She has been confined to her bed for over a year. She was the mother of four children of which Edgar Deney survives. Burial services were held Wednesdau afternoon December 14 at the M.E. Church. The Rev Simmons officiating. She was laid rest in Riverside Cemetery. Dates & Places of residence for John Deney ??1815-1816 ?? claims Jefferson Co NY as lifetime residence. (Other info states John's parents were also born in New York. 1816 -40 ? possibly living in Ellisburg, Jefferson Co during this time period. 1825 -30 1825 Census shows a ABRAHAM DANA with 3 boys & 3 girls in proper age group foR our John Dana/Deney/Denny in Ellisburg, Jefferson Co NY 1830 -35 1835 Census shows John DANA with wife (proper ages for John & Luzetta) Jeff.NY 1845 Census shows John Denny's family living in Ellisburg, Jefferson Co., NY. 1850 Census shows John Denny's family living in Dundee, Kane Co., Illinois 1855 Census shows John Denny's family living in Ellisburg, Jefferson Co., NY. 1860 Census shows John Denny's family living in Pierrepont Manor, Jefferson Co., NY 1861 Moved to Dale or near Medina, Outagamie Wisconsin when Chandler Denney enlisted in Wisconsin Calvary at Janesville and also where Melissa Deney Gallea finds residence with husband Burton Gallea in Medina Wisc. <1861 -1863>? living around Dale, Outagamie Co., Wisconsin during this time period. <1863 ? bought land in Minnesota <1863 -1879>? 1875 Census shows them living in Rice County, Minnesota. 1880 -1888 Census shows John Denny's family living in Morristown, Rice Co., Minnesota. 1888 -1904 Census shows John's wife Luzetta Denny living with Fred Flatz & Lillie on the 1900 Cenus (living with granddaughter Lillian May Deney Flatz) It states Luzetta had 4 children and only one was still living. 1835 Ellisburg, Jefferson Co New York Cenus Page 9 10th person listed John Dana (This is my John Deney with his name spelt another different way) # 2 column - 1 - male listed as Head of family # 3 column - 1 - female listed # 4 column - 1 - male listed subject to be of militia age between 18-45 # 5 column - 1 - male listed as eligible to vote # 6 thru 10 columns - zero entries # 11 column -1- female married under age 45 years # 12 thru 16 columns - zero entries # 17 column - 3 - acres of land # 18 coumn - 1 - meat cattle owned by family # 19 & 20 column - zero entries # 21 column - 5 - hogs owned by family # 22 & 23 column - zero entries # 24 column - 16 - number of yards of linen, cotton or other thin cloths, manufactured in the domestic way, in the same family during the preceding year. On the 1835 Census there are only 24 columns of information taken instead of the 36 in 1825 Census. By the looks of it - It looks like newly weds just starting out. The year 1835 is just right for John Denny & Lucetta McNitts marriage date. Also listed on the same page are: (1) Peter Dingman (3) Hugh Dana (4) Cornelius Dingman (8) Richard Wooliver (10) John Dana - above info (24) Daniel Goodenough Richard Wooliver as you can see is in the Woolen Manufacturing - See scanned image for all the details. You can also compare the info on Hugh Dana's properties. \ If you compare the 1825 and 1835 Census's you will see familiar names each time by these Dana's. I think there was another mispelling of the Denny's and now we can add "DANA" to the list. Now we need to get more information on this Abraham Dana/Denny of Ellisburg. My Great Great Grandfather: JOHN DENNY All the information we have on John Denny is that he lived in Ellisburg, Jefferson County NY since he was a infant. We haven't been able to find a birth, marriage or military information for him. I have looked at many research films for this area and there seems not to be any birth reference to him only Census' & some land grants(Index of Deeds Jefferson County) : Grantees: John Deney 1856 Grantor: A Scott Liber 127 Pg 257 John Deney 1856 S. Snyder Liber 131 Pg 39 John Deney 1860 J. Otis & al Liber 144 Pg 451 The only thing we have is the information from his gravestone in Morristown, Minnesota which gives the date of his death (March 6, 1888) and how old he was, (birth date calculates to 25 August 1815). On the 1880 Moristown Minnesota Census he states his parents were born in New York which confirms info on Edgar's Death Certificate. >From the census we find that his occupations were a Farmer, Sailor, Owner of land and a Hotel Keeper (in 1880 Morristown Minnesota). He was married only once and married in 1831 in New York to Lucretta/Luzetta McNitt., daughter of James McNitt and Sara Lindsey (Of Sandy Creek, Oswego, New York daughter of Stephen and Sally McNitt. Sara Lindsey's parents, Stephen Lindsey (b.22 Mar 1759) the youngest son of Archibald Lindsey & Priscilla Stephenson of Stafford Tolland Co. Conn. Archibald & brother John Lindsey removed from Bridgewater. Plymouth Co. Mass to Stafford in 1736-37. In 1784 Archibald sold his land holding in Staffordand took family to Ashfield/Buckland area of then Hampshire Co Mass. Sara's father Stephen met up with Sara/Sally McNitt (dau of then widowed Martha McNight/Nitt) in Ashfield/Buckland Mass. area and were married ca 1785-86. Sometime after 1800 in Colrain Census Stephen Lindsey, wife Sara and their five children removed from Colrain to that part of Oneida County, New York which later became Oswego Co., NY. Stephen Lindsey is listed as a Rev War Patriot of that county. Sara/Sally McNitt was born 25 Oct 1766 Jefferson Co NY and died 25 Oct 1833 Ellisburgh NY., her parents were David McNitt and Martha Patrick. David McNitt was born 27 Apr 1731 Palmer Hampden MA., married 18 Mar 1756 Rutland, Worchester Co MA and died before 1790 in Buckland, Franklin Co., MA. David McNitt was the son of Barnard McNitt/McNaughton & Jane Clark. Barnard McNaught/Nitt was the son of Alexander McNitt & Sarah of Donegal. Children of John & Luzetta Deney (1) unknown Denny (possibly Male) (2) Chandler Denney born 1837 married Lydia issue: three children (3) Melissa Denny born 1839 married Burton Gallea issue: five children (4) Edgar John Deney born 1841 married Jennie Ray issue: nine children So far we assume all four children were born in Ellisburg, Jefferson Co NY - but no birth certificates have been found. I have checked many Church records of Jefferson County but haven't found any information. The area where the Deney family lived was very near the border of Oswego near Sandy Creek where Luzetta's family (Lindseys) lived. (1) Unknown Denny (2) Chandler Denney (also known as Chan Denny) He was born in 1837 possibly in Ellisburg, Jefferson County New York. He lived in Ellisburg up til 1860 and enlisted in 1861 at Janesville, Wisc. and family resided in Dale, Wisc. He was a Carpenter and a Laborer. He died on March 8th, 1900 in Waseca, Waseca Co. Minnesota (Newspaper clipping Waseca Radical P3 C3 March 14, 1900) and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Morristown, Rice Co., Minnesota. When in Service he served also as a Chaplin. Chandler and his wife Lydia are found on the 1880 Census (June 4th 1880-pg335) showing him, wife and daughter Lucy. Lydia Denney Died 14 April 1890 (birth 1839) Her parents were Hugh & Susannah Denny. Census verifies Chandler and wife Lydia were born in New York and both their parents were also born in NY. Lydia may also be another Denny from another line. They had three known children: (1) Lucy Denney (born 1872 in Minnesota and died age 12) (2) Frances Denney (died 1912) (3) Jesse Denney (died 1920) (3) Melissa Denny She was born around the year 1834 in Jefferson County New York. She got married 1855( found on 1855 Census of Ellisburg Jefferson Co) in ?Redwood? Jefferson County NY or in Redwood Minnesota to a Burton Gallea (son of James & Polly Gallea)., Burton Gallea was born in 1833 also of NY and died 4/10/1922 in Wisconsin. Melissa died 1882 in Medina, Outagamie Co., Wisconsin and is buried in Greenville Cemetery. They had five known children: (1) Ella Gallea (b 1856 in Greenville Wisc) married Willard Lathrop (2) Adelaide Lucinda Gallea (b 1860 in Greenville Wisc) married Theodore Lathrop (3) Gilford Egebert Gallea (b. 7/16/1862 Steele Co MN) (4) Benjamin Franklin Gallea (b. 7/11/1866 Greenvills Wisc) (5) Cora Belle Gallea (b. 5/8/1869 Greenville Wisc) Other family information on Denny/Gallea Line can be accessed by contacting Kathleen Lathrop. k_lathrop@hotmail.com (last known email address - has her family history online) (4) Edgar Deney - My Great Grandfather - (already mentioned above) He married Jennie "Hattie" Ray, Daughter of Robert Ray (b. 7 July 1828 Ohio died 11 March 1907 Port Townsend, Washington) and Emily Simmons (b.26 November 1835 Pennsylvania died 14 January 1867 Monroe Co Wisconsin). They had nine children who were all born in Minnesota. I am descended from his 8th child Leeland Alfred Deney. My grandfather Leeland Deney lived for a time in Morristown Minnesota where he married Dorothy Mae Downhour (Daughter of Samuel James Downhour and Stella Effa Dean) and they had two sons. Story went that he put Dorothy (pregnant with my father) on a Train with toddler Harold to Washington state and he then rode the rail in a box car and met her there at their destination. Leeland Deney served in both WW1 and WW2 ( I have a great deal of info of his term in the Navy SeaBee's - The 38th Naval Construction Battalion). Leeland lived in Oregon and then made Washington State his permanent home. Leeland and his brothers Roy Sylvestor Deney and Robert Edward Deney moved to Ruston Washington and then Leeland moved to Sheridan, Oregon then to Roseberg Oregon and then to Olympia, Tacoma and Puyallup, Washington. The other children of Edgar Deney remained in Minnesota.
Hi Melody, Tjerck Claesen de Wit and Barber Anderiesen are listed as the parents in the 15 Oct 1668 baptism of their daughter Geertruyd in the Old Dutch Church of Kingston book, p. 6. Try looking in the records for the New Amsterdam Dutch Reformed Church on the Olive Tree website. The birth and marriage records of the Old Dutch Church of Kingston do not begin until 1660. Both Tjerck Claesen de Wit and Barber Anderiesen would have been born prior to 1650. Richard
We don't go by the surname "Teneyck" but possibly the name changed to a American version "Denny, Deney" I found out from a researcher the Dutch pronounced the "T" as a "D -sound" and possibly the spelling of our name got changed - But that's in theory. I've gone through all the Dennys and Dana's of the surrounding area of where my Deneys lived but there is no connection to any of them. I get close and then the birth dates don't match and neither do the wives or children. It's been a "Ferris-wheel" research. My grandfather said we were Dutch & French & Scot'., We look Dutch... The Scot & Irish came in through the mother's side on most of the generations. On the NY Jefferson County census of 1825 it shows a Abraham "DANA"/Denny and then the 1835 my JOHN DANA/Deney with the same amount of property in the same area ... Too coincidental for that with the same neighbors surrounding them. So I'm pretty sure ABRAHAM DANA/DENNY OR WHATEVER SURNAME is a relative of my John. The other mystery is we do not know where John's son Chandler got his first name. I have searched for Chandler families in the area checking marriages and haven't found anything. This is what information I have found on my Dene/Denny/Dany and Dana family: Dates & Places of residence for John Deney ??1815-1816 ?? claims Jefferson Co NY as lifetime residence. I hope your day is bright and cheery!! ----- Original Message ----- From: <hogrider37@peoplepc.com> To: <nydutch@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2007 6:09 PM Subject: [NYDUTCH] Ten Eijck > Janice > > I have a Johannes Dennemerken married to Maritje Ten Eijck they have a son > Johannan ChristoffelDennemerken born 1720 in Pipick, Sussex County, New > Jersey. Dear Melody, Your Barbara Andriessen is the daughter of Andries Luycaszen and Jannetje Jans/Sebyns. Andries was born about 1595 in Friedrichstad, Denmark. Barbara was baptized in Amsterdam on 8 Nov 1641. Her marriage intentions were recorded in the New Amsterdam Dutch Church on 24 April 1656. They read: "Tjerck Claeszen de With [Witt], from Grootholdt in Zunderlandt [The Netherlands] and Barber Andrieszen, from Amsterdam." It is surprising to me that a woman would wed at age 15, but there it is. Barbara's baptism is recorded in the Birth/Marriage/Death records in the Amsterdam archives -- Folio 42, page 271. I am assuming that you already have the records of the 13 children of Tjerck De Witt and Barbara Andrieszen.
