    1. Re: [NYDELAWA] Prudence E. Carley
    2. Prudence was the daughter of Brookins Miller Carley and Lydia Ann Ellis. Brookins was born August 22, 1805 in Delhi, Delaware, NY and was the son of Joel and Mercy Bouton Carley, who was the son of Abraham and Susannah Brookins Carley - the Abraham of Green Mountain Boy fame -- Abraham was the son of Mariner William Carley and Mary Bowden - they were married in Boston in 1703 by Cotton Mather. Mariner William was the son of Capt. Henry Carley/Kerley and his second wife, Elizabeth Ward, widow of John Howe, Jr of Marlborough, Middlesex, MA - Henry was an officer in the MA Bay Colony and the son of William Kerly, the Immigrant, b. @ 1598 in Ashmore, Dorset, England, and his 1st wife, Ann White. Capt. Henry's first wife, Elizabeth White was killed in the Massacre at Lancaster in Feb. 1676 - her sister Mary White Rowlandson, a captive during the same incident, wrote a diary of the event and it is published in the History of Lancaster -- on line - I have been researching this family for several years and have just returned from a trip to Maine for research and to meet others of this family -- which is connected in so many ways to the history of York and Scarborough, Maine - Sudbury, Lancaster and Marlborough, MA - Fairfield, CT - Dutchess Co, Saratoga Co, Delaware Co, Montgomery Co, Oneida Co, Tompkins Co, NY - to IL, Ohio, WI. Abraham was the brother of John Carley who married Sarah Sherwood, daughter of David and Sarah Meeker Sherwood -- John also had a son Abraham who married a Susannah Jackson, daughter of Ephriam and Martha Blackman Jackson of Fairfield - this last Abraham was the father of Johnathan Carley who settled in Sidney with his wife Jenny Gray and children. Johnathan was a hero of the Rev. War, sustaining and surviving 19 musket ball wounds. If this hasn't put you on overload and you want more information - please contact me.
