My Deborah Ann Durphy(Durfey?) was b. 15 Jan 1827 in Delaware Co, according to the NY census...but then...on her daughter's census entry in 1910 in Ct., it says Florence Griffin's mom (Deborah Ann Durphy/Durfey?)) was born in Rhode Island...... Now there were tons of Durfees in RI...and some went west of course. In 1840, there is a Joseph Durfeye in HArpersfield, Delaware Co, NY...in 1810 there is a Stephen Durphy in Greene Co, Cairo....maybe on his way out to Delaware Co...both possible leads for me. In RI in 1790...up to 1810, there are 4 Joseph Durfees in RI...then in 1820, the number is down...could be that some died...but why would Deborah's daughter say her mom was born in RI when the 1840 NY census says she was born in Delaware Co, NY? Any ideas out there? Anyone know about Durphys/(Durfeees/Durfeys, and any other spelling the census person decided to use) in HArpersfield and their possible migration from RI? My Deborah Ann was supposed to be Irish.. but that could have been her mom was irish and her Durfphy came from the Quaker Durfeys of RI.........my grandmother (great grandaughter of Deborah Ann Durphy Griffin) used to say Deb was Irish but I don't trust my grandmother...she had lots of old fashioned prejudices....the Durfees in Ri I think came from France 1st? I don't know that story.... Are there any living Durphys in Delaware Co?...any descendents of this Joseph..or of Stephen? Perhaps Joseph and Stephen were new arrivals...
