I would suggest one other change for those receiving the digest version: request that the administrator change your subscription to the MIME format. For most email programs (Not AOL) you will receive each message as a separate attachment that you can reply to without generally having to change the subject. The previous list system was in MIME format but the new system defaulted to the plain text version. Unfortunately, you have to ask the administrator to change the format, you can't do it yourself. The address for this list is: NYDELAWA-admin@rootsweb.com -----Original Message----- From: John H. Hi All, Those of you that are getting too many Delaware List emails are probably set up on the List as receiving each and every email sent to the List by others as separate emails. This can be troublesome if there is a lot of activity on the List like it is at the present (which it should be). Even in the Digest mode, I have seen some days where there are 5 or 6 Digest messages, but this is rare. This would mean some 50 or 60 separate List email messages. Ouch!! I can see how this is overwhelming. To correct this you have to be reassign to the List as a Digest List Reader. Under this format the many emails to the List will be placed into one file and sent to you with a header like this last Digest as follows: Today's Topics: 1. Re: Rollcall - Sprague (Barbara Heard) 2. Re: Wheeler Book (CMMEADOWS2@aol.com) 3. Re: Roll call-Alexander Gray (SDetweiler@aol.com) 4. discontinue from subscribers list (Nan13143@aol.com) 5. Re: discontinue from subscribers list (Ann and Bob Frederking) 6. Re: discontinue from subscribers list (Robert Bishop) 7. Re: Roll Call--WOOD (lindawatsonsmith@aim.com) 8. attn: John Aiello Los Angeles (Joan Hantel) 9. 35 Identified Photographs, Most From Walton (CaroleeRI@aol.com) 10. Re: Roll Call Russell-Chisholm-Winter-Taber (BKSSFISH@aol.com) 11. Re: 35 Identified Photographs, Most From Walton (Fred & Helene Ballantyne) Then you can scan down to the one(s) you want to read. Email programs handle these Digest emails differently. Some just place the full Digest on the screen to scroll through and other break down each topic as a separate subject to click on. Of course you can still keep receiving the separate emails and if you program has filters you can set it for keywords to grab those emails and place then in one or more email boxes to be read later and the balance will be junked. This is not the best way since the sender may not have the best subject wording for you filter to grab what you are only looking for and you will miss valuable information. You might have been in Digest mode and with the new changes, you might have been re-assigned to the single List mode. It is not certain why this happened, but a few were changed. You can get back to the Digest mode or change you current reader status to Digest mode. It is simple. To get into the Digest mode (if you are in the Single List mode) you have to unsubscribe: Send an email to the List to the following address: NYDELAWA-L-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message. You may or may not get an automatic response to your request. Then resend another email to the list as follows: NYDELAWA-D-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'subscribe' without the quotes in the subject and in the body of the message. You may or may not get an automatic response to your request. After this you should only get one or two Digest emails a day depending on how much List traffic is being handled that day. You should see the main email header like NYDELAWA Digest, Vol 1, Issue 53. The clue is the word Digest. PLEASE, for those that REPLY to a List message, enter a good description for your reply in the Subject Line. If not you will get the only the generic List Email Header: NYDELAWA Digest, Vol 1, Issue 53 , which really means nothing to the List readers that receive your email. DO NOT repeat the whole Digest contents, some 10 or more emails Only REPLY, QUOTE or CLIP the subject or lines you are responding to, not the full text content in there Digest email. This keeps the long repeating subjects, not relevant to your response, out of the next Digest message and therefore your scanning of the Digest will go much faster and the email archive storage servers will use up less room. These large Digest emails often are trashed by various email services and you will not get what you are looking for. Read your Email Help, Options and Preferences to set the REPLY parameters properly to minimize your Reply email size. Sorry for getting into this subject, but I know there are users that are not too familiar with these List operations and it just makes it harder for you and the others to quickly scan the email from these Rootsweb lists without the frustrations some of you are venting about. I hope we can close this subject for now. Respond to me or Rene off the List with private email for further help. Enjoy the great Delaware List. and Welcome Rene as our new moderator administrator.
