Great suggestions, Patty. I'll have another look at the indexes - especially the mortgagor indexes. Clarence Putman has done some work for me in the past. I'll ask him to look into the "genealogy" of lot 235 in Stamford. Here's what I have on Lot 235: PROPERTY: north of the northeast part of the Town Brook Valley, _[1]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftn1) Town of Stamford, Delaware Co., New York (part of the old Hardenburgh Patent, Catskill Mountains, East Branch of the Delaware River) by May 25, 1811 when he took out a mortgage on his fifty-acre farm in the northern part of lot 235._[2]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftn2) Although the mortgage is not recorded, the southern portion of lot 235 was sold the same day to James Brown by Peter R. Livingston (through attorney Joseph Beers)._[3]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftn3) Alexander Gray sold that farm in 1826. He was counted in Stamford at an unknown location in the Federal census of 1830. In 1831 he acquired a small place from his neighbors Novatus and Mary Blish for whom he may have worked. In 1835 he sold the small place and moved to the Town of Roxbury in Delaware County. ____________________________________ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftnref1) [1]Griffin, p. 168, states the location of Lot no. 235. (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftnref2) [2]The mortgage was not recorded in 1811, but is mentioned in the 1826 transaction. Morgagee Index, Delaware Co., FHC 418736. But the person taking out the mortgage is the mortgagor. This index is on 0831869. THE PAGE THAT WOULD COVER 1811 WAS TOO FAINT TO READ. ASK CLARENCE PUTMAN TO LOOK AT P. 55 IN THE ORIGINAL INDEX. NOT GABRIEL GRAY BUT ALL OTHERS. _[3]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftnref3) Deedbook D, p. 200. Clarence checked all Peter R. Livingston transactions in Stamford and Roxbury. Several but no others for lot 235.
You're very welcome. I hope it leads to something for you. Curious here. I just finished responding to Judy Schreiber's e-mail to me asking where Alexander Gray was. Is the Alexander Gray mentioned here the same???? Patty At 11:06 AM 10/17/2006, you wrote: >Great suggestions, Patty. I'll have another look at the indexes - >especially the mortgagor indexes.
