    3. No - just prove my descendancy from a Patriot. This was accomplished by sending local Regent approved copies and copy of previous member under same patriot. Or was your connection to a Patriot made with a genealogy book? Back in 1977 I checked the DAR Patriot Index: list of already accepted Patriots Thomas WHITE was there with his second wife Amy McGEE (not the best spelling of name). Went to a family genealogy book (privately printed in 1897) I had one edition and the DAR library had a later edition. [the family gen. book listed the Patriot & his second wife] I, also acquired a record of someone else who had joined the DAR on the same Patriot. I was able to use the family gen. book and copied the pages needed from the Patriot down to my maternal grandmother. Then I gathered up the following records. 1. my grandmother's marriage record to a SMITH 2. my mother in that couple's family on 1910 Census, plus the letter from my mom's uncle saying she was the 3 year old nameless female on that census [which was the same proof she had used for proof of age for Social Security] 3. my mother's marriage record to a man of another common surname 4. my birth certificate/record to that same couple 5. my own marriage certificate/record, which also showed my name change. [Since mostly females were involved in my lineage, I had to prove/show each female name change.] With all the records in hand, the organizing Regent looked at the records, and it was all notarized, and then it went to Washington D.C. for evaluation and eventual approval. Perhaps the DAR has tightened up their requirements. They accepted mine based on the info from a published geneaology. I too am working on my DAR, and so far they are not approving it, 3 years of waiting and hard work before that. We have books stating the connection, but they are denying because they say the information in the books - notice books, plural - is hearsay even though it is through a relative. Now going over every little detail we can find to add to the application.
