    3. I'm surprised the County Clerk did not inform you that the Divorce records are sealed by NYS law. Essentially the only persons that are allowed to purchase a copy of the decree are the former husband or wife, or a person with a New York State Court Order signed by a Judge. Here is a link that explains it. http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/divorce.htm There is a bit of a work around but you can not do it from a remote location. If you REALLY have to have the information, some of it "might" be available in open records. Each of the County Clerks offices have a very large set of index books named "Index to Civil Records" or title close to that, I can't remember exactly. What you might get lucky and find are court transcripts of the messy stuff that led up to the divorce, like abuse, desertion, infidelity, child custody, the separation decree, or what ever. Those records are not sealed and you may look at them or get photocopies. It does take a lot of time because the indexes are surname only. So if you are working on AARDVARK vs AARDVARK you will find those records fast, but if it's JONES vs JONES, well you get the idea. I doubt that any of theses indexes have ever been filmed and I'm close to positive that none of them would be on-line, but you can learn a lot of the juicy details if you do find the cases. All parties are named, ages, dates of birth, addresses, witnesses, etc., etc. It will take boots on the ground though. 2. I received the papers once before. Unfortunately, one, I can't find them and two, I can't remember where or who I sent the request to. It seems like it was through the list. Your right it was the transcript of the divorces.
