If someone passed away on January 9, 1854 in Colchester or Downsville, NY (they are buried in the Covered Bridge Cemetery), might there be a reference in the newspaper? I realize the farther back you go, the less was written, obituary wise, sometimes just a blurb that the person had passed. Where might I go to look, in other words, what newspapers were available back then, that might be on microfilm, and which would be used by folk in Colchester/Downsville? Lastly, does anyone know which churches might've been operating in those towns at that time, as well? I know that there is a town historian there, as well, but she has been away, and the ladies in the reading room at town hall couldn't help with questions, local history, wise. Thanks for any help that you can give, and have a nice week!
