In my research, I've found many, many Scottish ancestors of people here in Chenango Co. who had come directly to Del. Co. from Scotland. I've wondered why they came there and not over here or Otsego Co., and there must be a reason. There are so many of them that perhaps it was arranged back in Scotland and also perhaps there were family relationships not fully explored as yet. As for coming from Ireland, I've found at least three lines of mine who came from that area of Ireland known as where the "Ulster Scots" had settled. The Kennedys and the Edmonds were from Antrim and another family of McLaughlins came from Killalea, on the eastern peninsula of northern Ireland. My hunch is that they were Scots first and Irish second. I think they were all protestant as well, from what I can gather from the descendants. I would love to hear more on this subject ... is there anything in print in Delaware Co. literature on the Scottish settlements??? Sally Chirlin
