So glad that this topic came up! My ancestor, Alexander Gray, was born in Scotland about 1775 and was in Stamford, Delaware County, by 1811. Why did the earlier Scots come? Were there land agents in NYC or even in Scotland? ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
There were Kilpatricks in Delaware Co. by 1800 and they certainly considered themselves Scots. However, naturalization papers at the court house say they came from Armagh, Northern Ireland - an indication that they had been resettled in Ireland at some point before their emigration. No idea why they chose Delaware Co.
