Dear Listers, For me, these are new surnames. They were obtained recently] in OCT 2007 - on-site- at the DELAWARE and BROOME COUNTIES . In Broome Co.,NY I visited the Chenango Town [ship] Offices and the Township Historical Soc. BLDG. / i.e. Little Old Schoolhouse. The HIST. SOC. is located next to the present school in the Town of Chenango--in the Village of Kattelville. Assistance was given there courtesy of Alice J.RUBY-Historian of the Chenango TWP.of Broome County,NY. 1529 ST.RT.12. Binghamton,N.Y. 13901. Mrs.Ruby is VERY knowledgeable and was referred to me by one of the TWP. of Chenango Town Clerks, and was most agreeable to an [off-day] meeting with me--an out-of-town CA. researcher. My interest at the moment is in the Ancestry of the EVERETT family of CT.: to Delaware Co.,NY t ? 1818? to about 1840: then to Broome Co. - [About 1840 to 1910]--as it pertains to the wife -HARRIET]--of George A.EVERETT ---Parents possibly HARMON and STANARD of Delaware CO.,NY. Am seeking the MAIDEN Name / ancestry of the wife of George A. EVERE who was a son of Thomas Acton EVERETT and Polly [BENEDICT] of CT. They migrated to Walton TWP. and married about 1820 in TWP. of Walton, Delaware Co.,NY. George A. EVERETT was the second son, be c. 1823 and he married a woman named Harriet -? M.?-------------- before 1846 when a daughter, Elizabeth Harriet EVERETT was born. In 1850, a son was born in Sidney,DEL.CO.,NY [ census] --named Thomas Benjamin EVERETT--but in later years known as, primarily Benjamin EVERETT. By 1855 [census] the George and Harriet EVERETT family is in Broome Co.,NYS. in the Township of Chenango- the Glen-Castle area. There are several other children as well. According to the Chenango Historical Soc. Record-- which MAY have been originally in the TWP. Records, Harriet died 19.NOV. 1888 at age 66 in Glen Castle,TWP. of Chenango,Broome Co.,NYS. She is buried in Glen Cemetery there in that TWP.. This record says that her FATHER was a Benjamin HARMON and her MOTHER was a BETTY [ STANARD ] HARMON.,--both from Delaware County,NYS. This same record was NOT in the Chenango TWP. " big- book" of Deaths-which I saw and scanned for Harriet's death: The town-clerk who was assisting said that some records had been destroyed in various spring-floodings over time in their 'older' buildings' where offices had been. But Harriet's Death Record WAS to be found at the Historical Society. Mrs. Ruby said that previous Township of Chenango [Broome Co.] Historians had brought materials into the archives over many years and this may account for the fact that the format in which Harriet's Death is on record at the Hist. Soc. "mimics" the format in the currently held Township of Chenango Death- Record-Book. We all know that information given at a time of a family death--may or may not be accurate--depending on a range of factors. However, If you have any information on either the HARMON or the STANARD families of around ?1830-1850 Delaware CO.,NY. or elsewhere ,-please reply. I have further info. on the EVERETT ,BENEDICT,and EELLS families to share---all out of CT. Thank you,Charlotte J. Sheldon
