    1. [NYDELAWA] Names of Delaware County Abolitionists
    2. While doing a Google Book Search for "Ebenezer Dan" of Delaware County, I got a hit in "The Journal of The House of Representatives." Ebenezer Dan and his wife, Phebe, submitted at least one anti-slavery petition to the United States House of Representatives in 1839, and it was recorded in The Journal. There is possibly a second petition. The petition(s) were signed by 48 or 49 residents of Colchester, who were not identified in The Journal. The Journal does, however, list many more Delaware County residents who submitted petitions. I noticed this as I scrolled through the book. Does anyone know if these petitions survive? Any idea of where they might be housed? If you're interested in researching whether your ancestor submitted a petition, you'll have to do a Google Book Search for your surname (and get a corresponding page number) because the names are listed in no particular order in The Journal, and it's nearly a 1000 pages long. Google results listed the hit for "Ebenezer Dan" as "United States Congressional Seriel Set - Page 590," but the book is called: "Journal of The House of Representatives of The United States: Being The Third Session of the Twenty-fifth Congress Begun and Held at the City of Washington, December 3, 1838 and in the sixty-third year of the Independence of the United States." Printed by Thomas Allen. Washington (DC), 1839. [from pages 584, 587 & 590] Monday, February 18, 1839 "Memorials praying the abolition of slavery and the slave trade in the District of Columbia, the abolition of slavery in the Territories, the prohibition of the internal slave trade, and to be heard by themselves or countrymen in support of their petitions, were presented as follows, to wit: By Mr. John Quincey Adams: ... Of Ebenezer Dan and Phebe Dan and 48 others, of Colchester, New York; ... Of Ebenezer Dan and 22 males, and Phebe Dan and 27 females of Colchester, in the county of Delaware, State of New York."
