Greetings, Increasing the time I spent on these searches was supposed to be a retirement project. Now, almost 9 months post retirement, I still don't seem to have found the time to increase my genealogy time. But it will happen eventually. The family of my paternal grandmother (Caroline May Telford b. 1874) came from Delaware County. Her father's family were descended from William Telford and Elizabeth Clark who came to the US from Scotland sometime between in 1816 and settled in the Bovina area. I know a reasonable amount about them through family information though I've not yet found records to substantiate much of it. My grandmother's father was another William Telford, the grandson of William and Elizabeth above. His father was also named William which makes things a bit tricky. My grandmother and her parents went to California shortly after my grandmother's birth and returned to NYS after a short time. However, my g-grandfather went back to CA where he lived in the Fresno area until he died. My grandmother and her mother apparently lived with her sister Kate (who married John MacDonald) on the MacDonald farm in Delhi. I know less about her mother's side. Her mother was Caroline Covil (Covel, Covill), born in Roxbury 24 Sept 1843. Caroline's parents were: Edwin Covil (Covell), born June 19, 1812 in Roxbury and Araminta Wilson, born Oct. 11, 1813 in Colchester. Edwin's parents (Samuel Covel and Elinore Losey) were born in Cape Cod and in Dutchess County. How and when they got together and to Delaware County, I don't know. I know even less about Araminta's parents, Issac Wilson born c. 1787 and Esther Woolsey. This might the kicker for me to get out the information and ramp it up on the priorities list. Wow! what a change in traffic. And thanks first to Joyce for the years she managed the list and not to Rene for taking it on. Thanks also to those who remembered to change the subject of their "roll call" responses. I've not had time to read everything, but have felt that on a list like this I had to peak at those with indefinite subjects lest I miss something of value. Will be back in a few minutes with my "Roll Call" info. Ann At 01:00 PM 14/10/2006, you wrote: >Hi Everyone, > >I thought that it would be a great idea to do a roll call. In later years these two ladies lived on Main St in Downsville. Maud/Maude was my Grandmother's niece. My Grandmother's sister, Elizabeth Rockefeller married Jacob Mc/MacDonald. From what I find in the census (tn Colchester), Laura is listed as Jake's niece. Am in the process of putting this info in my Brothers Keeper program - just nicely started I didn't know it at the time, but I am related to half the kids I went to school with at Downsville NY Harriett ----- Original Message ----- From: Doris Simpson To: nydelawa@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2006 8:53 PM Subject: Re: [NYDELAWA] McDonald, Rose, Thompson, Forman, Flint, Houghtaling,Clark, Gay I used to know a Laura McDonald & Maude Mc Donald , they lived in Telford Hollow Downsville, Del. I am very interested in the migration pattern I've been finding from Scotland to the Catskill area for a few years during the Rev war (Clavarack, Lithlingo, and other towns in that area) and finally to either Delaware County or Canada. I'm also very interested in the ships that brought our ancestors to Delaware County - first through NY, then up the Hudson on a sloop to the Catskill area, and then to Delaware County. The early families would be McDonald, Rose, Thompson, Forman, Flint, Houghtaling, Clark, and Gay. Unrelated families with parallel migration patterns who also married into these families would be Cummings, Grants, Humes, Kedzie's. Have quite a bit on some of the families, but I'm trying to find details to pull it together. Some families have me stumped. Would like to contact others researching these families. Researching especially the Gibson line. William (b.1773)and Isabella came from County Down, N. Ireland & had eight sons. They settled initially in the Kortright area. Some had farms in Meridale area. My grandfather, John W., who married Katherine Sutherland, was the son of John, who married Sarah Young Beken of Kent, England. Have had little success in finding descendants of the other seven boys. The above-mentioned names are my brickwall; I do know a lot about the LOBDELLS (my ancestor was Daniel LOBDELL). But it is his wife, Eliza MARTINDALE that is my brickwall; I know there are many families in the Indiana area with that surname, but I just can't find anything on her family. They are listed in the 1880 US census in Delaware Co., New York; their birthdates would be ca1800-1808. Both list their parents as being born in Rhode Island. Any help would be appreciated. Hello everyone My thanks to Joyce for her past work and René for her takeover. Now I have an Aurilla, Orilla Orila ( all variations found in the census) (Wilson) Wright b 1808. I spotted Araminta b 1813 and hoped that maybe the unusual name might provide a clue to something. With the name Isaac I am going to try to find what I can. I hope that Ann will try also. Who are the parents to my two elusive Delaware County ancestors? James Persons (my gr gr gr grandfather) b. 1775 in MA or VT - was listed in the 1810 through 1850 Town of Roxbury Census - must have died between 1851 and 1855. Please do you have any more info on your William Wright? I wonder if he might be the son of my William and Orilla? I posted a query a few days ago and listed the details. William and Orila lived in the Sidney area and according to the census had 6 children, I have identified 4: Johnson,Henry, Mary, and Alpheus. In one of the censuses a William lived next door to Orilla. He would have been the correct age to have been one of the children. I have been searching for my William's lineage for many years and anything at al would help. And my Alpheus lived and died in Oneonta. This has now been done, I did a back down as I am not really familiar with mailing lists and computer interactions. Obviously, this will help Joyce and all of us, it was thought that someone would put out a bulletin noting the changes, if I am correct, then on we go. I am researching the families of Robert Hume, Tenant, who moved with his family from E. Gordon Parish in Berwickshire to Delaware County. His family came with that of Adam Kedzie. Robert's daughter, Mary Stewart, married Adam's son, James. Many of both families moved on within two generations. Some moved to Ohio and Indiana, some moved to California, and my branch moved to India as missionaries with the Congregational church. My main interest at this point is to find more information on the women of my family. In particular, I am interested in any information about my gggmother, Hannah Derby Sackett Hume who married Robert Wilson Hume in 1839 and accompanied him to India. Jack Hume John C.
