Friends, The library in Walton suffered extensive damage during the flood this summer, to the tune of about $380,000. Much of the damage was to the basement area, where the genealogy collection, microfilm collection, and microfilm readers were located. There is no FEMA assistance, and only a $5000 grant from NYS and another $1000 grant from the NY Library Association. I recently contacted the staff there to see if I could donate something. Below is their reply. I understand that they are relocating the genealogy collection to the attic area of the building, and that some of the collecton was saved by the staff before the flood waters reached the building. Best wishes, Carolee Inskeep Sally Cranston, Director of the Ogden Library writes, "We had the most complete collection of Walton Reporters, Blade and Chronicle going back to the 1800s. The company we worked with, Proquest, has copies of what we lost. The cost of replacing these would be $26,235. What we really need is money. Annie Sulger, who works in the Historical Room is going to e-mail you with more info. about specific books etc. that were lost." Annie Sulger wrote, "At the present time I'm not sure what all we have and what we need to replace ... Any family genealogies are welcome ... For the last three months I've been working on drying books, copying what we had saved and now we are collecting as much as possible .... We can get dates of deaths and some of the stats up to 1996 from our indexes that some of us have compiled but not many obits ... We had a card file, but that was in the basement too and is gone." Hi Mary, Is the Colvin cemetery listed on the Delaware County website, possibly under another name? I am very interested in the cemeteries surrounding Masonville myself. If it isn't posted would you be willing to send it into Joyce for the website? I would be willing to transcribe it for you if it isn't something that you would want to do, I know that Annette Campbell is also willing to do transcriptions. I have been cemetery hunting in that area for a couple of years now, and I know that there are some that I haven't personally found - have gotten directions to some, but still unable to find them - of course these are ones that you have to hike to. If not would you be willing to send me a list of names - I have so many in that area that I'm researching, that there is probably a name or two I would be interested in. I'm looking for the parents of Fred Ballantyne (1884-1933) and Lena Ballantyne (Mrs. George B.) Dewey (1877-1901). They were taken in by Thomas and Elizabeth (McAuslan) Ballantyne of the Town of Hamden, appearing in the Ballantyne household on the 1892 census. As executor of Elizabeth's estate in 1920, Fred wrote that he was taken in and treated as a son by the Ballantynes, but was not formally adopted. Helene Ballantyne

Hello Roy, Could it be that your Simonson and McLean lines are the same as mine? My grandfather, Harold C Russell's mother was Mary McLean, sister of James McLean of South Kortwright. She died when he was around 8 or 9. His father, Howard Russell, remarried Mary Olive Simonson. I would be very interested in sharing information if these are the same lines. Anything on descendants of Truman Norton (~1774 - ~ 1836) and his unknown wife. they migrated from Bristol, CT first to Meridith around 1810 and then to Roxbury. Anything on William Frisbie, born in CT, who married Marilla Norton, daughter of Truman. There are probably Schoharie county connections here. Any relations of Melvin Squire Edwards (1852-1913) who married Frances Caroline Norton (East Branch area) Descendants of Palmer Yeomans. Relations of Benjamin Wood who married Lucy Norton before 1854 (this was probably in Sullivan county). Any descendants of Thomas A. Secord (1813-1851) and (Sarah) Cordelia Ketchum/Ketcham (1816-1900). Any relations of Leonard John (Johann) Lang (1873-1957). Probably in the Hancock area and NE PA.

Great suggestions, Patty. I'll have another look at the indexes - especially the mortgagor indexes. Clarence Putman has done some work for me in the past. I'll ask him to look into the "genealogy" of lot 235 in Stamford. Here's what I have on Lot 235: PROPERTY: north of the northeast part of the Town Brook Valley, _[1]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftn1) Town of Stamford, Delaware Co., New York (part of the old Hardenburgh Patent, Catskill Mountains, East Branch of the Delaware River) by May 25, 1811 when he took out a mortgage on his fifty-acre farm in the northern part of lot 235._[2]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftn2) Although the mortgage is not recorded, the southern portion of lot 235 was sold the same day to James Brown by Peter R. Livingston (through attorney Joseph Beers)._[3]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftn3) Alexander Gray sold that farm in 1826. He was counted in Stamford at an unknown location in the Federal census of 1830. In 1831 he acquired a small place from his neighbors Novatus and Mary Blish for whom he may have worked. In 1835 he sold the small place and moved to the Town of Roxbury in Delaware County. ____________________________________ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftnref1) [1]Griffin, p. 168, states the location of Lot no. 235. (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftnref2) [2]The mortgage was not recorded in 1811, but is mentioned in the 1826 transaction. Morgagee Index, Delaware Co., FHC 418736. But the person taking out the mortgage is the mortgagor. This index is on 0831869. THE PAGE THAT WOULD COVER 1811 WAS TOO FAINT TO READ. ASK CLARENCE PUTMAN TO LOOK AT P. 55 IN THE ORIGINAL INDEX. NOT GABRIEL GRAY BUT ALL OTHERS. _[3]_ (aoldb://mail/write/template.htm#_ftnref3) Deedbook D, p. 200. Clarence checked all Peter R. Livingston transactions in Stamford and Roxbury. Several but no others for lot 235.

Failed to locate them in the 1930 census and would like to know what happen to their sons, Stephen and Howard. I would appreciate any data on this marriage, if they were separated or pending divorce in 1920, when they were located in different counties and where hey were buried. Thank you for your assistance. Catherine -- Thanks for your response, but I'm not much help with Kemps very far back or anywhere beyond my husband's close and slightly extended family. My Kemps come from Ohio, though, if that helps! F.
