    1. Re: [NYDELAWA] Roll Call Demilt-Response to Marty Bacon
    2. Hi Marty, When I hit a census problem where the surname could be transcribed in a number of different ways, I then enter the first name and the birth year +/- 5 years and the state of birth and the first few letters of the surname followed by an asterisk ... in the case of this family, I would enter dem* and the other information and see what kind of results I get. Sometimes, if I have the children's names, I will enter the one with the most unusual name, which might yield fewer search results to choose from. Sometimes I put the state and county, sometimes not. Depends on where I think they might be located. Hope this helps. Carol Potter Meadows In a message dated 10/18/2006 2:23:34 AM Eastern Standard Time, mbacon3@cfl.rr.com writes: Lori, Thanks for the reply. I had been several years since I looked at the information I had on Harry. What I have cane from his sister in law. She had said she thought he or his family came from NY. The 1920 was not available when I got the information. I looked him up tonight and found he was born in NJ but his father Wilbur P Demilt was born in NY with his parents born MI and NY and his mother Ethel D Wahl Demilt was born in NJ with her parents born NJ and NY. I don't know where in NY as I could not find them in 1900 or 1910 as Demilt, Demelt or Demett. I also tried Demill and others but no luck. 3. Because some of my ancestors came from Delaware Co., I have scanned through briefly almost all of the many messages that came through to see if a familiar name popped up. Tonight one did when I saw the name SCHOOLCRAFT. My wife's g-g-grandmother was Elizabeth SCHOOLCRAFT ROSE. She was b. July 14, 1807 in Schoharie Co. NY daughter of John ROSE and Rhoda CRIPPEN. Ab't 1837 they came to Columbia Twp. Bradford Co. PA. She had sister Sarah and brothers John and Hiram. She d. Oct. 26, 1898 at age 91. I forgot to mention she m. Justus WOOD Sept. 24, 1824. Seems there must be a connection here. I have her obit and a photo of her. 3. It has been some time since I posted anything concerning my g-g-g-grandfather Wilhelm/William ROOS/ROSE. He was born in 1738 in Hesse Cassel, Germany and married Elizabeth SCHOOLCRAFT in 1760 in Schoharie NY. Quite a gap, I know. The Bible says he died in 1819 in Colchester NY. In the book "Centennial History of Delaware Co. NY" it states that William ROSE lived on the west side of the river, below Downsville, near Rock Eddy. It also states that he ran a tub mill above Downsville. I have not been able to find an immigration or naturalization record for him. I do have the names & dates of births of his children. I would like to find an obituary and where he is buried - I realize that may be wishful thinking for that far back, but one can always hope. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated. On a scale of 1-10 this list ranks somewhere about a 2 in my life priorities right now...no doubt once I get retired and have nothing else to do it probably will be an 8 or so... so while I have a passing interest I simply do not have time to read about everybody's aunt Jenny and uncle George. 3. Rene, I have sent my roll call info twice lately, but as yet have not see in on the list. I didn't know if there were so many that they cannot all be posted or if I am sending it to the wrong address. I would appreciate any help you can give me. 3. Ok, now I know a little bit more about MIME, it will work as Gary says BUT if you have AOL forget it. AOL doesn't read MIME, the pages will be blank. There might be a couple of other ISP's with the same problem, but no one mentioned names, only that it is a possibitlity. If wish to change to Digest mode from L mode, you can do so by first sending a new email to UNSUB from the list by writing to NYDELAWA-request@rootsweb.com Next send a new email to NYDELAWA-D-request@rootsweb.com to subscribe in Digest mode with the word subscribe in the subject and message body. Thanks everyone, now lets get back to research, Rene' -------Original Message------- From: Rene' Date: 10/22/2006 9:05:47 AM To: nydelawa@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYDELAWA] List Administrators Message Hi Everyone, The list is now set to reply to list instead of reply to sender. All you have to do is hit reply instead of reply to all, a little bit easier to do and remember. Messages will go back to the list - this way everyone gets to see the messages. Sometimes we get to learn new things, sometimes we will find someone that ties into our family that we hadn't thought about or known about until someone replies back. Plus the fact new people are joining lists every day or browsing the archives - if the information isn't there they lose out, this list is for sharing. Roll Call - we will do a roll call every once in awhile - when the list has been unusually quiet, that is what I will do to pick it up again. From this roll call alone, several have found some links they have been looking for, there are a couple of people that I have yet to reply to, but when I find the time, I most certainly will. Digest vs. Regular mail - I have never used digest, so am unfamiliar with how it works, I have asked the question regarding MIME, as it is not an option that I can find in my administrations tool utility. When I get an answer and if it is available I will let you know. You cannot be subscribed to both regular mail and digest mail with the same email address, this is causing some problems, some subscribers on this list are subscribed this way, if this is you, please unsubscribe from one of the mail versions and set up another address for that version, or just have one subscription. I have also learned that some may be receiving two emails of each posting in addition to their own post. This is caused by some people using the email address NYDELAWA-L@rootsweb.com If you are using this, you should delete it from your address book, the new address for the list is nydelawa@rootsweb com. Being that these are two different addresses, they will generate 2 emails. My hope for this list is that it will become a fairly active list, will it continue to the extent that it has in the last week, no, only when something happens to spark and interest will it be that way. If anyone has any further complaints please email me off list. If you wish to unsubscribe please follow the directions that are at the bottom of this message. Thank You, Rene' List Adminstrator ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NYDELAWA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

I had to log on and see if you were there, and sure enough you were. Neat (and huge!) website, isn't it? We are likely related...small world, isn't it:) Kathy (Shaver) Fisher bkssfish@aol.com

Thank You, Rene' List Adminstrator
