    1. Re: [NYDELAWA] Delaware Co. NY Roll Call - Pine, Patrick, St. John, Cook, Sey...
    2. Barbara, In my database I have a Joshua Pine (with absolutely no information) who married Anna Amelia Sherwood (b. 18 Dec 1848, PA) daughter of Nathan Jackson Sherwood and Sybil A. Stone. Before her marriage, Anna lived in Wayne County, PA. I was wondering if Joshua might be connected to your Pine family? Your Peter St. John is my 3C8R. According to a GEDCOM at Rootsweb.com, he died in Fairfield County, CT. Carol Potter Meadows In a message dated 10/14/2006 4:04:39 PM Eastern Standard Time, bjheard@volcano.net writes: Here are the lines I am researching in Delaware County, New York. The following are my maternal line: my 4th great-grandfather Joshua Pine who was married to Margaret ? Pine. They had 6 children that I know of: Joshua (circa 1799 - 1888), Charles (circa 1803 - 1865), Alfred (b circa 1807), Margaret (circa 1810 - 1900), Mary (b before 1818), and George (b. before 1818). my 3rd great-grandfather Alfred Pine who married Phoebe Patrick They had 7 children that I know of: Delia (b. circa 1838), Joshua (b. circa 1840), Nancy (b. circa 1842), Hannah (1844 - 1936), Idah (b. circa 1846), Rosabelle (b. circa 1848), and Inez (1851 - 1915). my 2nd great-grandmother was Inez Pine who marreid Henry W. King. The migrated to Kalamazoo, Michigan and then to Los Angelse, California. I am still reserching the maiden name and origins of the fisrt Margaret Pine who married Joshua Pine. I am still researching the parents of and origins of my 3rd great-grandmother Phoebe Patrick who was b. 1818 in NY (based on census information). I believe that Phoebe and her brother Richard Patrick married a brother and sister: Phoebe married Alfred Pine, and her brother Richard married Alfred's sister Margaret. The following is my Paternal line: my 5th great-grandfather Peter St. John is reported to have died in Walton, 4 Jan 1811. He married Mary Cook who was born and died in CT. They had 11 children, all born in CT. my 4th great-grandfather Cook St. John died in Walton 11 Oct 1876, at 103 years of age! He married Polly Mary Seymour who was b. in CT and died 2 July 1804 in Walton. They had 4 children; 3 born in CT and one born in Walton. my 3rd great-grandfather William St. John was b 4 Jun 1802 in Walton, d. 7 Nov 1876. He married Pamela Gould who was born in CT and died 15 Feb 1865 in Walton. They had 7 children all born in New York, probably Walton. Sally S. b circa 1826, William Ogden, 1830-1918, Parmelia G. b. circa 1833, Henry W. b. circa 1835, Lewis L. b. circa 1839, Nathan C. b. circa 1841, and Herman b. circa 1854. my 2nd great-grandfather William Ogden St. John was b. 18 Jul 1830, Walton, d. 30 Jan 1918 in Alamdea County, California. He married Frances (Frankie) Elizabeth Waltham who was born in Indiana. They met, married and both died in California. 1. [NYDELAWA] WOOD OBITUARIES - Walton Area
    2. Have you any interest in the obituaries for Howard L. Wood or Addie A. Wood? Howard and Addie were the adopted children of Frances E. Wood of Walton. Frances was probably the son of Jessie L. Wood (c. 1808-1880+) and Millicent Wood (c. 1810-1870+). Frances was born about 1836, married "Mary L.," and had one son named Frances I. Wood, born about 1861. Frances and Mary "adopted" Howard, who was born about 1869, and Addie, who was born about 1871. Howard and Addie first appear with the family on the 1880 census. Howard became a doctor who worked in Connecticut as an adult. His obit is dated "1908" in pencil.  Addie's obit is not dated; she outlived Howard by a year or so.  There is strong indication that they both committed suicide by poisoning. Neither married or had children. They are buried in the Wood plot in Walton Cemetery. It's possible that Howard and Addie are biologically nephew and niece to Frances and Mary. Any additional info on these two would be greatly appreciated, as well. Best wishes, Carolee Inskeep

    3. In some areas ancestry.com is free through the local library. I live in North Carolina but have access to the library edition of ancestry.com through computers at the local library. I also have access to Heritage Quest from home through the library. Since Heritage Quest is not renewing contracts with genealogical organizations, it will still be available through libraries. It might pay to check out the local library as well as the Family History Centers. -----Original Message----- From: nydelawa-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nydelawa-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Patty Gaddis Sent: Friday, October 27, 2006 9:11 AM To: nydelawa@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYDELAWA] Roll Call Demilt-Response to Marty Bacon It is not free to get to the ancestry.com 1880 census unless you are signed in as a church member for their site or have an ancestry.com subscription. 3. I might have spoken an untruth. You can certainly search the 1880 Census on <familysearch.org>, but I am not certain that the image of the page on <ancestry.com> is available for free. The link works for me, but I am also on Ancestry. 3. You can go to <familysearch.org>, and search the 1880 US Census online, from your home computer, and from there you can call up the image of the page from <ancestry.com>. 1880 is free, but only 1880. 3. Bonnie, If you are interested in the census, you most likely can go to any LDS (Mormon)Chapel that has a Family history center, you can access Ancestry.com's files without a fee. Not all chapels have a family history center but they can direct you to one taht does in your area. Also the Church is in the process of making available on line many of the records they have accumulated. I do believe that they are in the process of wrapping up the Elis Island records also. 3. I would strongly advise anyone getting the digest version to change to MIME format, it avoids this problem and makes the message much easier to reply to. Some mail systems (e.g. AOL) do not support MIME. The list administrator can change your digest subscription to MIME format. -----Original Message----- From: RandRmil@aol.com [mailto:RandRmil@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 25, 2006 3:00 PM To: NYDELAWA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYDELAWA] Digest replies It has been sometime since I have posted a reply, but I still lurk and watch to any family lines. 2. Hi Bonnie, They have changed the membership somewhat. The annual membership is about $155, I think. That includes all the Censuses, Immigration, One World Tree, Newspapers and Publications, and basic US records, such as WWI Draft Registrations and WWII draft info. You can check it out at Ancestry.Com. They offer a 14 day trial membership. Or at least they used to. I have been a member since 2000 and I think it is well worth the price, but that is just one person's opinion. 3. Hi Rhonda, Yes, this does happen to others, and is a problem. When those of you who use digest mail, you should be aware of having to change the subject line. You should also be copying and pasting only the reply you are posting to, to do so otherwise clutters mailboxes of those who receive digest mail. I thank you all for cooperating in this matter. I have one Crippen line who lived in Delaware County for a time. My GG grandfather, Gurdon B. Crippen (1831 - 1902) moved around a bit living in Stamford for a few years in the 1860's and 70's. He was a teacher (in Margaretville), then a Methodist Episcopal minister and also ran a store in Stamford for a while (I found an advertisement in the Bloomville Mirror for Crippen & Sturgess). He and his wife Adaline Palmer (1828 - 1893) bought and sold a bit of land in Delaware County. He was also a Justice of the Peace for Delaware County for a few years. According to the 1865 Census for Stamford he was born in Otsego County. In the 1870's he was sent by the Methodist Episcopal Church to Nebraska where he spent most of the rest of his life, only coming back to Greene County NY in his 60's or so to marry Amy Burtis Chase the widow of Rev. D. Noble Chase (Gurdon had officiated at their wedding in 1859). He died in 1902 and is buried in the Lexington Cemetery in Greene County. His children all stayed in Nebraska. My mother was born in North Platte, Nebraska. He had at least one sister Selina Crippen Hitchcock, wife of Nelson Hitchcock of Maplecrest, Greene County, NY. I have a notebook of Gurdon's which includes a letter to Selina as well as to a brother, E. B. (Burt) Crippen, and another to a sister Maria. I have not as yet found any solid data on either of the last two. Selina is buried in Maplecrest with her husband and young daughter, Annie S. Hitchcock. I have undocumented info for Gurdon's parents and ancestors which my brother gave me, but have not had any luck verifying it as yet. According to it Gurdon's father was Amos Crippen (1875 - ??) and his mother was Mary Amelia Barrows Tim Tryon -----Original Message----- From: nydelawa-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nydelawa-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jean Belzer Sent: Monday, October 23, 2006 3:56 PM To: nydelawa@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYDELAWA] E: Roll Call - Wilhelm/William ROOS/ROSE Good to hear from you Betty. He was born in 1738 in Hesse Cassel, Germany and married Elizabeth SCHOOLCRAFT in 1760 in Schoharie NY. Quite a gap, I know. The Bible says he died in 1819 in Colchester NY. In the book "Centennial History of Delaware Co. NY" it states that William ROSE lived on the west side of the river, below Downsville, near Rock Eddy. It also states that he ran a tub mill above Downsville. I have not been able to find an immigration or naturalization record for him. I do have the names & dates of births of his children. I would like to find an obituary and where he is buried - I realize that may be wishful thinking for that far back, but one can always hope. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated. At least one Stephen Fisher b 1770 MA came after the Revolution from NJ where his father Jonathan had died; don't know if any brothers came along. Stephen married Sally Cook & they moved 1807 to Jefferson Co NY although during the War of 1812-14 she was back home at Delaware for a while. That doesn't show on census because mid-decade, only by children's birthplaces. I think I'd found that other Fishers in Delaware Co were German, not sure of that. -------- Has anyone else noticed how often even up toward 1900 that people from Delaware County NY would answer the census enumerator that they or their parents had been born Delaware, so it got recorded as if the State? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
