Hi: Thanks for getting back to me. Your story is most intriging. The Darlings owned most of the property up there. A Jubal Darling settled up there in about 1875, his wife having inherited the land from her father's estate. In talking with some the old timers that were up there in the early 30's told my father and myself that the farmhouse burned down during the winter, and the family (by the name of Moon) lived in the cow barn until the social services people came up and took them away. Have you heard of this story? You mention Paul and Opel. Paul is a Mullinex as well as Opel? I live in Florida, but was born in Binghamton. My wife & I moved down to Florida in 1992. Thanks again for your information. I appreciate it. Maurice Hitt ---- John Mullinex <brentwoodmarine@yahoo.com> wrote: > Maurice, > > Sorry I really cannot help you there. Joyce. Thanks for posting the Mabon-Calhoun picture. I think we already have identified most of the people thanks to Gil Laing. As he noted, "Picture number one is of my Uncle William Daniel Mabon, Cornelia May (my mother) Mabon Laing Harrington, my Uncle Archibald McAuslan Mabon, and my Aunt Anna Grace Mabon Oliver." Gil identified the second picture as including " Uncle Peter Calhoun, William D. Mabon, Cornelia McNair Calhoun (great grandmother), Anna Mary Calhoun Mabon (my grandmother), Aunt Florence Laing Calhoun. Children in front are Archie, Anna, & Connie Mabon (children of Wm & Anna Mabon). Third row, Cora Calhoun Graham Amos (Aunt), Pearl Calhoun Graham (we think), & unknown. Photo two taken on the Calhoun Farm, Calhoun Hill, Andes, NY. I'll be sending the pictures off to Gill for distribution to and sharing with family members. This is what makes this site so great! I'm glad these folks won't go through history as anonymous. Ray LaFever > > Mabon-Calhoun Family photos needing id from Ray LaFever - > http://www.dcnyhistory.org/mabon-photos.html >

I think things like that often when I am recording things in my database. I know my parents did not know that they were 8th cousins once removed when they married. They only learned of it when I started doing my research. My parents are just that .... plus my 9th cousins. I think of the older generations often and how long they waited for an answer to a letter from a distant location, when I receive emails from Germany or Austalia almost instantly. Thanks to the computer and the Internet, I have found cousins I never would have located otherwise. Our ancestors would be in awe! I don't think this made it to the Delaware List. Thought it was important to the many who have loved ones buried in the Margaretville Cemetery Steve December 9, 2006 Dear Friends, Few promises are as sacred as the promise to care for the final resting place of a loved one. The Village of Margaretville has taken that trust very seriously and has cared for the historic main cemetery on Cemetery Road for several decades. Unfortunately, repairing major damage resulting from harsh winter weather and other causes costs money that is not in the Village budget. Over the past year a section of the cemetery where Civil War veteran James Myers is buried has deteriorated: The hillside is slipping away causing walls and stairs to buckle and collapse. Through the M-ARK Project, Inc., the Village has received a matching grant from the O'Connor Foundation for $3,000 to try to address this problem. While the Village has some money to apply towards these repairs, it is not enough. $1,000 needs to be raised to match the grant funding. We hope you will help meet this goal by writing a check today. Any amount you can give will be appreciated. You can mail your check to the M-ARK Project, Inc., PO Box 247, Margaretville, NY 12455. Contributions to M-ARK towards this project are tax deductible. If the match can be raised, we are hopeful that repairs will commence in spring, 2007. Thanking you in advance, we are Joan Lawrence Bauer Executive Director, MARK Project William H. The lady I believe to be my grandmother, Alice (Kelly) Rice, was born in Middletown, Delaware, NY in 1860. Here parents were Sniffin and Rosana (Brown) Kelly. She left New York around 1882. She left behind her mother Rosana and brother William and other siblings. I'm trying to find out if anyone can tell me anything about her family descendants in New York. Hi All, My sister-in-law sent me this poem and I thought I'd share it. Unfortunately, she did not provide her source so that I can give proper credit to the person who wrote it. Carol Potter Meadows THE CENSUS TAKER It was the first day of census, and all through the land; The pollster was ready ... a black book in hand. He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride; His book and some quills were tucked close by his side. A long winding ride down a road barely there; Toward the smell of fresh bread wafting, up through the air. The woman was tired, with lines on her face; And wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place. She gave him some water ... as they sat at the table; And she answered his questions ... the best she was able. He asked of her children... Yes, she had quite a few; The oldest was twenty, the youngest not two. She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red; His sister, she whispered, was napping in bed. She noted each person who lived there with pride; And she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside. He noted the sex, the color, the age... The marks from the quill soon filled up the page. At the number of children, she nodded her head; And her lips quivered for the three that were dead. The places of birth she "never forgot"; Was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon ... or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear; But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here. They spoke of employment, of schooling and such; They could read some...and write some..though really not much. When the questions were answered, his job there was done; So he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun. We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear; "May God bless you all for another ten year." Now picture a time warp ... its' now you and me; As we search for the people on our family tree. We squint at the census and scroll down so slow; As we search for that entry from long, long ago. Could they only imagine on that long ago day; That the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew, would they wonder at the yearning we feel; And the searching that makes them so increasingly real. We can hear if we listen the words they impart; Through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart..

No - just prove my descendancy from a Patriot. This was accomplished by sending local Regent approved copies and copy of previous member under same patriot. I too am working on my DAR, and so far they are not approving it, 3 years of waiting and hard work before that. We have books stating the connection, but they are denying because they say the information in the books - notice books, plural - is hearsay even though it is through a relative. Now going over every little detail we can find to add to the application. Rene' -------Original Message-------

War. His son is Cornelius Bassett. About 3 years ago they told me they wouldn't approve the application because I only have a preponderance of proof that he is the father of Joanna Bassett my GGgrandmother. I should get a copy of the application with their notes on how the proof was finally made. I am please that this line has finally been accepted. The line now goes back to the Mayflower. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NYDELAWA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
