    1. [NYDELAWA] Kester Signor
    2. Trying to locate Kester Signor and his son, Clifford (also used John Clifford or J. Clifford in the 1920 Delaware census. Want to find out if he was already married to Julia Russell at that time. Have recently discovered that Julia ran off with a David Simpson in July 1925, who was charged with desertion of his wife and 3 children. It appears that Clifford and Julia resolved their problems for they stayed together, however moved out of the county to Rotterdam in Schenectady County. Currently working on the SIGNOR genealogy on the Delaware line and would like to close this missing link. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Alan

    2. Kathy: Thanks for the posting regarding the migration of families from Delaware Co., NY to Ogle Co., IL. I, too, have families that followed that route and then some continued on to IA. Having moved not long ago, my records are not readily available, but the families were GRANT and BEARDSLEY. I believe they moved there around 1835-1840. If you have any information on them I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Nancy ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    2. Remember that vital records (birth, death and marriage certificates) will not exist for any town in New York before 1880. 1. [NYDELAWA] Descendants of Rufus ROGERS
    2. Sally W Goodfellow
    3. I'm searching for any descendants of Rufus ROGERS, who lived in Sidney and/or Sidney Center in the early 1800s. He appeared in the 1810 Census. He was married to Polly CUNNINGHAM, according to my Wheat family records. Rufus' and Polly's daughter, Amanda, married Cyrus WHEAT in Sidney in 1836. Amanda and Cyrus were my gr-gr grandparents. I have no information whatsoever on Rufus and Polly, although I've searched for several years--so would appreciate learning of any descendants who could help me uncover more about them and their family, especially going backward in time. Many thanks! Sally Goodfellow in North Carolina

    1. Re: [NYDELAWA] 2nd try, Ogle Co. posting
    2. Hi Ray, I was surprised a couple of years back when I learned just how many folks from Delaware County moved west to Illinois - my own Shavers and Davises were no exception, though my own particular branch decided to head to Michigan. I did make it to Ogle County a few years back myself, and was quite impressed at the little library in Polo. I was the only patron for the entire 5 hours I spent there, so I pretty much had the librarian to myself. Their genealogy indexing of their old news items on microfilm was impressive, plus they also kept a surname log of everyone coming through hunting for their ancestors so that folks could contact each other. You are right about the cornfields! Polo is surrounded by cornfields that stretch as far as the eye can see. My time was limited as I was en route to Michigan to visit family, so I'll have to go back sometime to "head hunt" some more.......but maybe not until I've had the chance to see Delaware County for the first time and bug the librarians there! :) Kathy in MO ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    3. Not to clutter the list, but I got a kick out of seeing this. I finally made it to the Elkhorn (Brick Church) Cemetery in Ogle County where my 3 Greats grandmother, Annis Stone Finkle (1808-1868) is buried. I was interested to see Finkles in the Sanford genealogy that was with this message, including at least one buried in the cemetery. I don't remember seeing that grave. The fact that there is no headstone for my 3 Greats grandfather, Gilbert Finkle, makes me think some of these graves disappeared. Annis's headstone is not in great shape. The cemetery is essentially surrounded by fields of corn. About as far as the eye can see. These Finkles are my only ancestors not buried in NY, Penn or New England. I had wanted to visit this cemetery for several years and a work related opportunity that took me to Chicago finally gave me the chance. 2. I am forwarding this Ogle County, Illinois posting as many of the folks on here were born in Delaware County. Thought perhaps it might be of interest to others researching these names. Kathy in MO ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    3. That announcement was for the "world premiere" of a DVD produced by Andes High School students and faculty. It was held at SUNY- Delhi. The DVD is for sale (I think its' $10) at the Gift Shop at the Hunting Tavern in Andes, open on Saturdays until Columbus Day from 10-3. You might want to call the number on their website to check availability. http://www.andessociety.org/ It may also be available from the High School. The DVD is great, a wonderful collection of reminiscences by former Shavertown residents. The society had an event this summer on the towns under the Pepacton, and they showed this and another film, made up of home movies narrated by Alice Jacobson. I hope they release that film on DVD, too. At 08:15 PM 9/20/2007, you wrote: >Good Evening Folks, > >Without too much explanation, I missed an announcement on our favorite >Delaware County page. 3. Actually, if you contact the e-mail for the original showing, I bet it is still active. I know they are selling the DVD of the film in a number of places. 3. Good Evening Folks, Without too much explanation, I missed an announcement on our favorite Delaware County page. The announcement had the title as shown here: NOTICE - 40 minute documentary, "Shavertown - Reservoir of Memories," at 7:00 pm, Friday, May 25, 2007 I would like anyone to tell me more about this and if possible how to get a copy. I had emailed Joyce, but she did not have the back copy and couldn't help. Links or items would be appreciated, Jeremiah Palmer My Wilsons lived at Shavertown, the McCabes were nearby and of course we all have a love, justified or not for this old area.

    3. Long Flats Cemetery is about 8-10 miles south of Downsville on NYS Rt. 30. It is about a mile south of Downsville Stone Co., and just past Jack Vernold Construction. It is located at the top of a very small hill on the left hand side of the road if you are traveling from Downsville to East Branch, and you have to watch closely for the road as it is easily missed. There is a small pond directly across the road and you should see headstones from Rt.30. Hope this helps, Cliff ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brook Lassie" <brooklassie@msn.com> To: "NYDELAWA-L" <NYDELAWA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2007 9:56 AM Subject: [NYDELAWA] Long Flats Cemetery > Hello List: > > Would someone be kind enough to give me directions to the Long Flats Cemetery?
