Is the list working?
Yes Sam.
Suzanne, Do you know of any photos of William W. Sanford, or any of his brothers? I've just sent several Sanford obituaries to the Ogle county administrator; they will probably be posted on that genweb site. I have some of the annual minutes of the Baptist association of which the Buffalo Grove church near Polo, Ogle Co., was a part. I would love to find more of the annual minutes, or the church records. I do have a historical account of the church on my website, as I found letters in our old church periodicals, describing some of the details of how it began. I conduct a library of church records, books, etc., and have compiled a book on our churches in Illinois, also maintain a database of members (past and present), and of obituaries. Hi Kathy, I am from the William Sanford line.? He was married to Huldah Hull.? Their Daughter Phebe Sanford married Samuel Reed Jr.? Their daughter, Sarah Reed married Luas C. Hicks in Ogle County, Il. 1846.? Lucas and Sarah are buried in the LaSalle Cemetery Chillicothe Illinois.? Luscas' grandfather Levi Hicks came to Delaware Co., NY about 1794 from Nova Scotia.? His son Joel Hicks married Phebe Coleman in Delaware County.? About 1815-16 they moved to Ohio and 1830 moved to Illinois.? Sarah Reed was born in Ohio.? This is just alittle information to help the timeline with the Sanfords going went west. Suzanne -----Original Message----- From: BKSSFISH@aol.com To: nydelawa-l@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 22 Sep 2007 5:53 am Subject: [NYDELAWA] 2nd try, Ogle Co. posting Okay, below is a posting on the Ogle County, Illinois mail list. Since many of these folks migrated from Delaware County, New York, I thought I would add the post to this mail list. Lots of Sanford names, among others. Kathy in MO ________________ I have obituaries of some of these Sanfords. Several of them were members, and ministers, of the Old School Baptist church near Buffalo Grove, or Polo. I have tried, in vain, to locate the records of that church. It met, in latter years, at the Buffalo Grove school, which was built to be used for both a public school and church, if I remember right. I'm interested in photos if any exist, for Joel Sanford, Ahirah Sanford, or William Warren Sanford, who were ministers. Hi, If you look on the dcnyhistory.org site check cemetery records they have the covered bridge cemetery as well as others. Also if you check under Delaware County Resources then Newspapers on Microfilm, Newspaper microfilm at the NYS Library for Delaware County, then Downsville they list the papers different names and the years they ran as well as the ones they have. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brook Lassie" <brooklassie@msn.com> To: "NYDELAWA-L" <NYDELAWA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2007 10:51 PM Subject: [NYDELAWA] Colchester > Hello List: > > I am once again hoping that someone might be able to help me. > > If someone passed away on January 9, 1854 in Colchester or Downsville, NY (they are buried in the Covered Bridge Cemetery), might there be a reference in the newspaper? Hello List: I am once again hoping that someone might be able to help me. If someone passed away on January 9, 1854 in Colchester or Downsville, NY (they are buried in the Covered Bridge Cemetery), might there be a reference in the newspaper? I realize the farther back you go, the less was written, obituary wise, sometimes just a blurb that the person had passed. Where might I go to look, in other words, what newspapers were available back then, that might be on microfilm, and which would be used by folk in Colchester/Downsville? Lastly, does anyone know which churches might've been operating in those towns at that time, as well? I know that there is a town historian there, as well, but she has been away, and the ladies in the reading room at town hall couldn't help with questions, local history, wise. Thanks for any help that you can give, and have a nice week! Sincerely, Beth (Beers) Rupert

Doris: Made a mistake in the name of the newspaper, as it ws the Richfield Springs Mercury and not Richmond, as I had originally stated. Check the 500-525 listing, as its in 508 on that list but I could be one off and was under the heading of :Neighboring Counties". The article ia about half way down the page and this was my source of your inquiry. Alan

Doris: My source is the Richmond Spring Mercury newspaper, dated Aug. 20, 1925, which I found at the Old Fulton NY Post Cards web site, which also have numerous old newspaper. I clicked on SIGNOR and there were 5,000 hits, however the majority were for the Italian word, Mr. I made a copy of the article and wrote down the papers name and date. . Willing to send you what was written and the Judge was named Holmes of Downsville. Guess there should be some record in the Delaware archives on the grand jury's action. I do not place anything in my files unless I can cite the source and maybe I can find someone in Delaware County to see what action took place on this incident. Hello again, List Does anyone know where the Howland Cemetery is in Walton, supposedly on Route 22? If someone could give me some sort of a landmark, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks very much, and have a nice weekend. Sincerely, Beth (Beers) Rupert
