They were explicit about the copyright, and I am sure that the copyright still stands. You could post anything you wanted. You own the post. You can *never* remove anything you post - and you give explicit permission for RootsWeb (and anyone who purchased RootsWeb) the right to redistribute, or DO WHATEVER THEY WANT with those posts. So - what is the problem? They did what they said they could do. The USGenWeb *never* owned GenConnect. RootsWeb did. RootsWeb was a COMMERCIAL ENTITY for Pete's sake! Ancestry is a commercial entity. The posts are still *FREE* just like they promised they would be. GenConnect no longer exists, and the posts have been converted to a new format, giving Ancestry a copyright on the way they are presented on the web. If *you* posted that info - *you* can post that info someplace else in YOUR OWN FORMAT. If you can get permission from whomever else posted, *you* can post that info, too, as long as you have the permission in writing and you use your own format. Don't like being unpaid volunteer for Ancestry? Tough. READ THE RULES. Never make the assumption that they *won't* do what they say they will. They will.
