GenWeb, all of it, sponsored by Rootsweb, Rootsweb is totally owned by Ancestry et al, this may be a fine legal point however, would that fact, Ancestry owning all, supercede any or all of the by laws?? Off of the above topic, I would like to say also, I have had a lot of contacts from genealogy friends, they were unaware that My Family.com is also Ancestry. I have lots of friends who have humongous gedcoms on My Family, they worked for years on all of it, as all of you also know. I am fairly sure I did read some time ago, for all intent and purpose, ancestry or My Family etc., they so to speak own those databases, compiled data. Many of my friends, they hope to in a small way for their families, desktop publish all of their data, one wonders-after putting up a site at My Family, is this option available to them, many are assuming that it is. I however am not so sure. Posters on either the NYCity or Brooklyn List-this past week complaining about others printing off the web all of their databases they worked so hard for, well wondering how they would feel about these issues. No one anywhere has been spelling out up front just what implications have come about as a result of the purchase of Rootsweb Data Co-Operative. It makes me feel bad when someday they may find out what they worked so hard for, is not theirs exclusively anymore. J.M.B.

The USGenWeb Project is not sponsored by Rootsweb. Rootsweb has been very generous to the USGenWeb Project and currently houses our national domains - www.usgenweb.org - www.usgenweb.net . The original owner of Rootsweb was an early support of the Project and was kind enough to give us unlimited space back in the days when space cost a lot more per megabyte than it does today. Because of his contributions of space and other services the USGenWeb Project has had the freedom to expand in ways that we may not have otherwise been able to. Ancestry's policies have no effect on how our Bylaws come into effect nor do our Bylaws have any effect on Ancestry. Tim Stowell National Coordinator USGenWeb Project
