I finally found my Murdant family in Cortland County. I am not sure when they moved there, but they are on the 1850 census for Truxton. I have their death dates: James was July 19, 1852 and Sarah was March 12, 1857. Was there a newspaper in that town or other nearby town that would have carried an obituary for them? Barring that, what records might exist that could tell me where, in England, they were from? They originally settled in Deerfield, Oneida County, arriving there in 1832. I believe, when they died, they left an 11 year old daughter named Harriette. George Murdant, their son, also born in England, died there on May 29, 1853. All three were buried in Truxton Village Cemetery. I really want to follow this one out, since my father's name was also James Murdant (Jones for good measure). Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.
