Does anyone know a William (Bill) Ladd of Cortland? The email address I have for him bounced as user unknown. He was offering to do lookups in Madison and perhaps Cortland county for Seventh Day Baptists. Thanks, Tim
Hello Tim, Yes, the Upper Cincinnatus Cemetery is off of North Main Street, within the town of Cincinnatus. Go north past the school, just a couple of houses down, the roadway to the cemetery is to the left. If I can be of any help regarding the cemetery, let me know. I've spent part of the weekend reorganizing my computer files - lots more to go but still trying to figure out what's what, what I've forgotten and so forth. Over the years I've tried to keep emails that contain submissions of data be it one surname, photograph, attached file, whatever, in a subdivided folder by location. Due to a couple of hard drive crashes, some email got lost, even though I have the attached documents or photos. Some of the emails in said catergory have long ago been added to the web sites, while others patiently await their turn. A reorganization was way overdue so I could find out what has been added, what has not, so I could start tearing through the material and placing it online. Unfortunately when one receives a submission of data, it may not be in a form I can either read, open or decipher and time must be spent trying to do so. Once that is done, material must then be formatted to go onto the web site. This too may take some time depending on the size of the file sent and how much must be done to make it viewable in a coherant format. I'm still slowly working on a book sent to me a few years back as it needs nearly every line in the 400 plus page book formatted. As the three New York sites contain the bulk of the pages I host (66%), so too are they the bulk of the submitted data (58%). As I was trying to sort out all this stuff, I did stumble across a couple of listings of marriage records for Chenango, that I shall put on the front burner and go from there. For the moment the total for Cortland County is small, since I just started hosting it in the past few months. Please remember that these totals do not reflect data actually to go online, nor how much, for each individual email must be reviewed to see what its status is first, then either placed in the 'done' pile or the 'to do' pile. At present the total emails to be reviewed are: Chenango - 514 (1997-2004) Cortland - 7 (2003-2004) Madison - 286 (1997-2004) I still have many other items on-site - ie - here on my desk to go online as well - census, books, etc. Now to get to it. Thanks to the kind contribution of Dick von Briesen, we now have the Gillett cemetery listing on the Cortland site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycortla/cemetery/gillett.htm Tim Stowell [email protected] Chattanooga, TN The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

Now that I see mail coming through - the list was down from about 7/3 until this afternoon. The server which houses several lists croaked. Rootsweb did say that they don't think any mail was lost as a result - and messages posted in the last few days will start filtering through as they go through the backlog. ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell [email protected]

I sent the following to everybody I could fin associated with the board "I am unhappy with the decision of the board to remove Tim Stowell from Madison, Chenango and Cortland counties in NY as Webmaster. I have worked for over 29 years in these areas in Genealogy. I made a trip to Madison County and found absolutely nothing on an ancestor. My first trip to Cortland was the same. There I had in hand documented statement that a family member was buried there but no one had any inf to share. No Carson inf was available . Thank to Tim, the mail list and website, last summer I was able to find the cemetery and other family members." Marilyn Carson Bess --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I have no idea as to what is the basis for such action and no idea as to why members of this board were not kept informed about any and all actions leading up to the matter reported below. I'm thinking that I must not understand what GenWeb is..... I thought this was volunteer work, but how do you suspend a volunteer?? And what in the world could you do that would merit a suspension?? Laura Bent
Listers, I am also quite stunned at receiving the post regarding Tim. The reply that was supposedly from Tim, did not sound like Tim. So I am wondering was that message legit, or not fearful of a hoax, am of the fraduelent email going around, which folks get, such claiming to be from administrators and all types of things. If there is a chance it could be that, do not click on the active link contained in first one that is supposedly for administrator etc. advisory deal. Also check out the subject line, that is a bit suspicious. Hoping it is not true, that subject line just not right??? Of all the lists I receive and administrators of, Tim is fantastic.
I guess I do not understand the reason for this. Could some kind soul explain what is going on?
