    2. Ray Brown
    3. In the town history section of my web site I just added town histories for the following towns in Courtland County, New York Marathon Solon Taylor Truxton Virgil Willett These are smaller than a lot of the other 118 towns that I have online for New York, but larger than most of the 200 plus for Maine. This completes what I have for Courtland County, 4 complete for New York. I should be adding more for other areas of New York soon. http://www.rays-place.com Cheers Ray Brown

    1. Philander BUCK b. 1786 CT
    2. MScheffler
    3. I found a BUCK family in Cortlandville in the 1850 census that I cannot place. Philander or Gilbert Philander are names that have turned up in the descendants of Ebenezer Buck and Thankful BALDWIN of New Milford, CT., so I would not be surprised if this Philander BUCK is from the same CT line of Bucks. Some of their descendants ended up in Camillus, Onondaga, NY and some went on to Lorain Co. Ohio. Researching the 1850 census for Central New York Bucks I found the following on Philander BUCK who was a physician in Cortlandville, Cortland County, NY. Since he was a physician, I wonder if anyone did a write-up in any of the biographical books that were common around 1890 to 1900. Summary of Philander BUCK - 17 Jan 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------ Name: Philander BUCK Sex: Male Birth abt 1786 in CT Marriages/Children 1. Lurana [BUCK] Marriage Children Orion J. BUCK (abt 1824 - ) Urania BUCK (abt 1826 - ) Sally M. BUCK (abt 1829 - ) Mura BUCK (abt 1831 - ) Hester A. BUCK (abt 1837 - ) Philander BUCK Jr. (abt 1839 - ) Sources 1. 1850 U.S. Federal Census (Washington D.C., National Archives microfilm publications), Cortlandville, Cortland Co., NY, p. 368. Please let me know if anyone can place this family. Margaret Scheffler [email protected]

    3. After, I sent this I realized that I had not added the County for Hector township in PA. It is Potter County. There is not Hector County in PA Thank you. Marilyn The only public record that I have found of the woman that I am searching for is on the second marriage application of her only known child. Martha Adeline Hibbard Shaver Mattison known as Addie. In 1905 in Stueben county, NY , Addie married George Matison. On her marriage application she says her parents were Hiram and Charlotte Chandelier Hibbard. Charlotte may have been born or lived in Yates County, NY. In checking the marriage licenses of all of Addie 13 children it is agreed that she was born in Sunderlinville, Hector, Potter County, PA. Family tradition says that Hiram Hibbard was killed in the Civil War. It may be that Charlotte is dead by 1880. In 1880, Addie is living in Michigan with her first husband Frank Shaver. They are living next to Frank's parents, John and Juliette Chase Shaver. Any and all help and suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you in advance Marilyn Bess

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Marian HINDS which was taken at the Breese Studio in Cortland, New York. I believe that she was probably a student at the Cortland Normal School when the photograph was taken at the school's name also appears on the back of the photograph. I'm guessing that the photograph was taken in the 1880's and that Marian was in her 20's at that time. I'm hoping to locate someone from Marian's family so that this treasure can be returned to them. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. Hudson-Mohawk Genealogies updated
    2. Bob Sullivan
    3. From the NYGenWeb state mailing list: The online version of _Hudson-Mohawk Genealogical and Family Memoirs_ has now been updated with another 330-odd pages from the second and third volumes. http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/families/hmgfm/ With almost 60% of the set completed, you may search more than 700 family entries from Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Green, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Washington Counties. Indexes for those counties and Schoharie and Warren are included. The series also has many references to other areas of New York and New England, so a search for Ovid or Herkimer or Chenango will turn up some relevant info. Hope there is something useful in there for you! Bob Sullivan ================== I've done a search for all three counties and got hits for all 3, including a great link for material I'm working on at the moment. Tim

    3. Jiggedity, jig. Fog in the morning, yesterday - not as bad as the night before. At the near end of journey a ladder in my lane of the highway. Nearly no rain, thankfully. One more thing about 2004 - it turned out differently than I expected from January 2004. I predict 2005 will be the same. The future will be surprising. Some things will be going away, some things will come new or refreshed to our doors. May each of you find something new, something refreshing in this new year. Now to work. Tim

    1. returning pathways
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Not unlike many others before me, we are returning from the west to the east, from the North to the South. I know of many folks who went west, didn't like it or prefered back east or wherever it was they came from and went back. Others though sometimes went ahead, either sending for their families later or going back to get them to bring them to the new home. If you have relatives that did either option 2 or 3, those stories of the treks they made would make an interesting addition to the story of your family. Once again, here we are in Bloomington, IL - more or less half way. Today's adventures were 3 fold. 1 - seeing the beautiful hoar frost on the trees and grasses of the plains of Minnesota as ice particles fell from the sky in jagged strands 2 - seeing the car directly in front of me almost get smashed off the road by the trailer who didn't see the little blue car while trying to change lanes. Fortunately the driver of the blue car was able to steer onto the shoulder in time to not get squashed. 3 - driving 50 miles or so through a pea soup thick fog, getting right on top of stuff before seeing it. Not a fun time. - and so on - like sitting in the conference room doing Internet as the connection in my room isn't working. Ah technology - great when it works, frustration when it doesn't. Learned several things while on this trip regarding the area visited, picked up some new material with promises of more. Rain is forecast for about 1/2 of tomorrow's trip. We should get home sometime tomorrow evening. I doubt I'll get online tomorrow, so it will be either Friday or Saturday before I do, as I need to find an item before doing so (that I received about a year ago - lost in packrat land). For all those who've written, I will reply in due time - I have about 700 emails waiting to be downloaded as of now. If I don't get the chance, be safe and best wishes for the new year. ------------------------------------------------------via webmail---- Tim Stowell [email protected]
