    1. update of sorts 2/19/05 - call for volunteers
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Chenango County: continuing work on Fairview cemetery - 3 sections left formatting Sherburne centennial material formatting 1860 census for Bainbridge ======================= Cortland County: continuing work on 1850 census alpha listing - 6 letters left formatting work on Cortland history ======================= Madison County: proofing/coding Hillside cemetery proofing/coding Oneida Presbyterian Church 1894 history transcribing New Woodstock history =========================================== Under the title that many hands make light work - as I've acquired a better way to get material out quicker to transcribers - I'm wondering if it would be of use to let you folks know by county what I'd like to have transcribers work on - what you could choose from? At present I have: Cortland - 2 active transcribers (James Knapp, asst CC as one of them) Chenango - 2 active transcribers (Elaine Decker, Mary Hafler) Madison - 3 transcribers (Pam Beger, plus 2 whom I've not heard from in a long, long time) Now to be fair there are others of you who have volunteered in the past, but I'd like to get a new group together and start fresh. I have waiting in the wings books (full or partial) for: Chenango - 5 (3 which just need coding) (1 in progress) Cortland - 10 (1 now being transcribed by James Knapp) (1 in progress) Madison - 11 (2 which just need coding) (3 in progress) These books / publications run from just a few pages to several hundred. Now I can with a couple of people helping eventually get these online - but the more the better / quicker it will be done. For those wondering what's involved - I would send you scanned pages of a section or chapter of a book, first a sample page to make sure you get it ok and can read it to transcribe from. If you could, then the section/chapter would be sent to you page by page. You would type up the selection and send me back a copy of your transcription. This could be in the form of a Word document, text, rich text format, some sort of word processing program. No need for you to worry about fancy type, italicized words, text size for I'd adjust that in the proofing / coding phase for my HTML editor strips out most of the formatting that word processing programs put in. I'd proof and format the material and place it online, giving you credit for the transcription. Interested parties please contact me. Thanks, Tim

    1. Seeking information on Edward WILCOX - 1779-1869
    2. Michael
    3. I am seeking information on an Edward WILCOX (1779-1869), who married an Anna Benjamin abt. 1807 in DeRuyter, Madison Co., New York. I do not know much about this family, other than they lived in Truxton, Cortland Co., New York during the 1820-1840 timeframe & were buried in the Old Burial Ground in DeRuyter. I believe that my 3G-grandfather, Schuyler WILCOX, was their son and was born abt. 1808. In 1820, Edward WILCOX has 2 sons & 5 daughters and Schuyler fits the age group. From several of Schuyler's children's death certificates, they cite him as their father and his birthplace on all death certificates is listed as Truxton, Cortland Co., New York. Schuyler died in 1848, abt. age 40, well before Edward's death in 1869. All of Schuyler's children would have known their grandfather, especially if their father died at such an early age & their grandfather helped Schuyler's wife care for their children. Schuyler & his wife, Marilla PERRY, lived in Georgetown, which is not far from DeRuyter & Truxton. If any has information about this family & could assist me, it would be greatly appreciated! 1. 8 more town histories for Chenango County online
    2. Ray Brown
    3. I just added town histories for the towns of North Norwich, Ostelic, Pharsalia, Pitcher, Plymouth, Preston, Smithville and Smyrna, Chenango County, New York to the New York town history section of my web site. These are smaller than the ones that I have for Cortland and Madison and Tioga Counties, but still of help in research. I also have histories for Norwich, Oxford and Sherburne, Chenango County if someone would be interested in helping type something up for the web site. You would recieve credit (your name on the page as the typest for it) and if would be yours if you want to send it to another web site. These 3 are a little larger (5 to 8 pages each) than the ones that I just put online and any help would be appreciated. Also I have the towns of Owego (30 pages), Condor (27 pages) and Spencer (30 pages) in Tioga County if someone would like to type one of them up. Most other towns in Tioga County are online. In a few days I should have the towns in Deliware County in files to be typed up. If you would be interested in helping to type one of these please contact me off of the list. I don't tell others who is typing something until it goes online just in case something comes up and it is not finished. Some others could get upset with you. Cheers Ray Brown http://www.rays-place.com .

    3. HI List, Would some one give me the name of the paper Cortland paper that would have obits for the late 70's and 80's? A uncle and aunt of mine died and I am wondering if their obits might be in the paper seeing that they lived in Cortland most of their married lives. The dates would be date of birth May 4, 1894 and death would be Oct. 1978 for Wava and for William April 28 for birth and Nov. 1981 for death. I would also like to know what cemetery and or funeral home they might have used to make the final arrangements? Any and all help is appreciated. The last question is this do the Cortland Paper/S have obit's on line and do they go back that far? Thank you. Joan Beebe Meddaugh

He was 82 years old when he died. I am looking for Elizabeth Gardner in the 1875 census. She would be around 71. She could be listed as Eliza or Elisabeth. In 1865, Henry and Elizabeth were listed as owning property. Thanks Wendy Washington State
