    1. for and in consideration by the natural love and affection,
    2. Marilyn Bess
    3. Can anyone offer suggestion or explanation on the meaning of these words? Have You seen them in other deeds and what was the relationship of the individuals?I have a deed from a James Glenny of Virgil which was then In Onondaga County but is now in Cortland which contains these words" that the said James Glenny for and in consideration by the natural love and affection, which I the said James Glenny heath and ______(I can't make it out} unto the said Samuel Carson hath given" This dead was for land in Lot No 42 and was bound on one side by the Lot boundary and another by John Glenny. In Tompkins county this James Glenny is an agent of Wm Glenny, the Rev War soldier that was granted these lots. Samuel Carson and John Glenny are listed as British Subjects in 1812. James Glenny is not registered with them. I have not found a listing for him to date. However, he could have been dead. Thank you Marilyn Bess

    1. tax season - 4/13
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Yes, it's tax season and that's what I'm working on. I've pulled the first all-nighter in a long time. I did get 2 hours sleep, rising at 1 AM to do taxes. Genealogy has taken a back seat. On the other hand - Fairview cemetery in Chenango County is coming back online, section by section. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/cemetery.htm --------- Also continuing work on the 1885 history of Cortland county and the DeRuyter historical book for Madison county. I find it interesting that there are numerous mentions of the neighboring towns / people across the county lines. I'm excited about the upcoming material for Homer, for I've already learned quite alot from it. I'm trying to place material online for all three counties that while rich in history are also chock full of names, so that while you may find out that your ancestor did this or that, you also just find them. It seems that while many left quite a legacy, others seemed to tiptoe through counties, leaving hardly a trace of their passing through the years. Tim

    3. I have looked at a number of Cortland County census but don't remember seeing any Horton people. My memory is not perfect. It would be helpful if you specified the year(s) of concern and specifially what documents you are referring to. -----Original Message----- From: Marilyn Bess [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, April 09, 2005 4:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NYCORTLA] Horton I find several Horton as member so the Bennettsburg Baptist Church in the Town of Hector. 1. New York State Death Index Availability
    2. gordondo
    3. First, a thank you to volunteers who have generously put a great deal of Onondaga County cemetey info on line. Your work is much appreciated. Second, I need a reality check. I am posting this to the list because I suspect that there are others who have or will have this question. The various web pages which link to on-line indexes only link to New York CITY indexes. With all of that, I have not been able to put my eyes (much less my hands) on a index of deaths for New York State outside of New York City. I am very forturnate to live in Seattle with an abundance of genealogical resources including NARA, several LDS family history centers, a good genealogy section in the libary through which I can access Ancestory and Heritage Quest, many active genealogical and hsitorical societies in the region with good libraries, and very generous people who know a lot more about genealogy research than I. I have discovered that the search features on many of the on-line catelogues often are not intuittive so I have enlisted the aid of experts, but sill no luck outisde of finding it in the New York State Archives. Perh! aps we are all missing something. Does such a thing exist outside the New York State Archives? If not, what options are there for tracking down death dates? While there about 30 people In Spafford and Tully that I need to get more documentaion on some day, at the moment, I am trying to track down two people. If the New York State death index is not available outside of New York State, any suggestions on how I can find out about these two people? Gordon, William C. Tully Cemetary, Tully, Onondaga County, NY. Death date unknown but somewhere between 1930 and 1956. What is known: * Born July 1856 in New York but county/town unknown. He was still living in 1930 at age 73 in Tully. He was buried in Tully Cemetary in the same lot as his wife but no year provided. * Was married to [Lydia] Adelle (w/ variations) WILLIS Gordon who was still living 1930 in Tully. Gordon, Andrew. Most likely died in Onondaga County and probably Spafford or Tully during the 1860's or 1870 before the census was taken. Not much is known about him at all. He is in the 1860 Census living in Spafford with Jas. Gordon (my great-greatgrandfather James who is still single in Spafford in 1870 but who picks up a wife in Michigan and settles in Illinois by 1872). Andrew Gordon was born in Ireland in about 1837 and was 23 in 1860. I have tried every trick I can think of or have read about to find him after 1860, but have found nothing and have not found him in easily searched death records in likely states between New York and Illinois. Thanks. Donna Gordon, Seattle

    1. Old Cortland business?
    2. Marilyn Lane
    3. I put the name of the business in Google and came up with the following on a bookseller's website. They were selling a catalog. DESCRIPTION: 0. ILLUSTRATED DESCRIPTIVE CATALOGUE NUMBER 21, OF GENERAL MERCHANDISE AND SPORTSMAN'S SUPPLIES. NY: Henry C. Squires & Son, nd (1890s). 4to. 96pp. Illus.; unused order blank intact. Trade catalogue devoted almost entirely to goods for outdoor activities (clocks and parlor games among the few exceptions). With the sporting equipment the firm offered a nice selection of books by such authors as Henshall, T. Roosevelt, and Greener. Romaine's "Guide to American Trade Catalogs, 1744-1900," locates only one for Squires & Son (from 1890) and calls it "one of the most outstanding catalogs in the whole field of American advertising." 1. Looking for FAVARO & STAFFORD 1963ish in DeRuyter & STAFFORD in Mexico - 1970s
    2. Hi, I am interested in learning any information anyone can give me on a lady who's last name was FAVARO. She was a care giver to a Raymond H. STAFFORD who according to his obit, died in a Rest Home in DeRuyter June 1963. However, someone also said he died at the home of his caregiver (a trailer) with the daughter of his caregiver with him. That daughter may have been his child as well, I'm not sure. A child of his that I would like to know more about was named Monte(y) Ann Stafford. This might be the same person, it may not be. I am trying to help Raymond's 1st daughter (taken from him at 3 months when her Mom & Dad divorced. She didn't know anything about this until she was 12 or so.) This family was originally from Fayetteville, NY. In the 1970s, when Harry Stafford died, in his will he had a Monty(e) Stafford of Mexico, NY survive him. Does anyone know of her? I don't know if she went to Mexico schools or not. Her projected age may be in her 50's now. Any suggestions as to how I can find other information is most welcomed. I'd like to unite these half sisters (Raymond's 1st daughter and Monty Stafford). Thanks & have a great day! Anne
