    1. update 6/25/2005
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Since my last update, these goodies have been added: Chenango County - At long last the 1951 directory of County and Town Officers contributed long ago by Jack Eaton. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/1951dir.htm -------------------------- 1880 History - Chapter 4 - Native American history in the region, the various alliances with the foreign powers, the betrayals, the wars to the time of the 1800s - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/1880-4.htm -------------------------- 1880 History of Norwich - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/1880-23.htm About 50 pages of material with extensive footnotes - 150 in all, which written in prescription bottle font was difficult for the transcriber and myself to read. Chock full of genealogy of many families. =============================== Cortland County - Nothing to report as I've been working almost exclusively on the giant Norwich chapter above. =============================== Madison County - 1872 History of Madison County - Appendix Notes, errata for the entire book. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nymadiso/1872end.htm ------------------------------ As of this week I am now maintaining Dan Weiskotten's site on Rootsweb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/ The only planned change at the moment is to replace his email address with a different place for folks to contact for comments / questions regarding the site. ================================= Lastly, regarding contributions / transcriptions - I'm about through the first batch of transcriptions folks started about 3 months ago. It's time to send out another batch to those who've returned their transcriptions. I'm having to reformat a work I did on a DeRuyter book as it is not viewing as it should in some browsers. A contributed posted to one of the county lists that they had contributed some material a long time ago that never made it to the web page. My apologies for that. When I went to look, see what had happened I discovered I had started formatting the work, then apparently got side-tracked, time passed and I forgot about it. I try to keep all contributions classed by county in seperate folders so I can see where things stand. Some contributions take more TLC than others to format for the web sites. Picture if you will a person standing at the mouth of a river and when it rains all the collected water comes to one point. In a way that where I stand as do others who coordinate web sites. At present I have to review this number of emails to see if there are items that need adding - Chenango - 469 Cortland - 59 Madison - 219 plus another 90 general ones and another 550, a goodly portion dealing with railroads in central New York. As I have varied interests I am always exploring new avenues of material which adds to the stacks - and folks keep sending material. So my plan is to attack these stacks one by one to get the backlog out and down. Comments welcome. Tim

    1. PARKER / FRY
    2. Charmaine Riley Holley
    3. Looking to share information with anyone researching PARKERs and FRYs out of Kent Co., RI. My Solomon PARKER was married to Rhoda FRY and they were in Cortland Co, NY before 1810 and he died sometime after 1840 there (she was already dead by then). They lived in Marathon but I have not been able to find them in the cemetery - too early I guess. 1. Crum grandchildren update
    2. Marilyn Bess
    3. First I want to thank everyone who sent me information and help solve this mystery, Secondly this shows that inf on the census can be wrong. In regard to the 1880 census showing three daughters for Erastus and Elizabeth Carson. Actually only , Martha and Charlotte are daughters, Kittie is a son whose name was Kit Eugene Carson and he fathered thirteen children, one of them Earl is my father. This is one census error. there are at least three errors the 1910 census. The are the birthplace of Tessie, age of children and their relationship to the head of the house, Jesse Cornell. These are step-grandchildren. In regard to these crum grandchildren. It appears that Charlotte married William crumm sometime before the birth of Tessie May in Mainesburg, Tioga County, PA. Her birth is recorded in Tioga County as Tessie M. Crumm, born March 30, 1897 in Mainesburg, PA. Father is William W. Crumm, mother is Charlotte May Crumm, . Dewella is not recorded there. In 1900 they are living in Troy. Bradford County. In 1920 Charlotte is remarried and Dorothy is living with her in Cortland county. I did not find Charlotte on the 1910 census. I know there is a Charlotte Thornton listed in Addison in Steuben county but this is not her. I have found no further trace of Tessie or Dewella Crum/Crumm/Crumb. I know nothing about William. I do not have a death date for any on these. Thank you again Marilyn Carson Bess

    1. Fw: Sailors from Cortland County
    2. Robert & Judy ANDERSON
    3. First time request: I'm trying to locate records of ships plying the Atlantic or even Lake Erie, etc. - records that list their crew members. I need to find the folowing young sailors, who would have been sailing between 1850 -1860: 1) My 4ggfather, Prosper Mark Burlingham, bn. 11 Aug 1838, Solon, Cortland County, New York. 2) Robert W. Deacon, bn. abt 1830, England, who lived with his family in Buffalo City, Erie County, New York. His younger sister, Ellen S. Deacon, is my 4ggmother, having married the above Prosper Marl Burlingham in 1860. They appear in Solon, Cortland County, in the 1860 Census. I couldn't figure out how Prosper came to know Ellen until I found her family in the 1850 Fed'l. Census for Buffalo and learned that her older brother, Robert, was a sailor. Family tradition has Prosper pursuing a career as a sailor, beginning as a cabin boy. So I believe he and Robert may have served on the same ship or ships, but don't know how to find them. Thanks! - Judy (Burlingham) Anderson

    1. Crum grandchildren in the household of Jessie and Elizabeth Coolbaugh Carson Cornell
    2. Marilyn Bess
    3. Instead of missing persons, I have people that I can not identify in what I thought was a well documented period in my Carson family. I began my research on my families when I was young. In facts I started gathering names while in High School. My grand parents, parents, aunts and uncles all answered my questions and told me about cousins, family reunions and the likes. However, I was stunned and perplexed when I found three unknown children,Tessie 14, Deuella 10 and Dorothy 6 Crum, listed as grandchildren on the 1910 Van Etten Chemung County in the household of my great-grandmother and her second husband Jesse Cornell. I can not find any of these Crum children either in 1900 or 1920. Hiram D and James C Carson two of her sons by her first marriage to Erastus Carson. Jesse Cornell who was also a brother of my other great grandmother has one son by his first marriage, had one son by his first marriage. Elizabeth has eight children by her first marriage , six sons and tow! daughters. The older daughter Martha married a Fitzpatrick. The younger one was Charlotte and she married a Thornton and lives in Cortland County in 1920. However, I can not find her in 1900 or 1910. I can not find these Crum chidlren in anyother census. Any help or suggestion would be greatlyn appreciated. Thank You Marilyn Bess

    3. I am seeking any and all information regarding Joanna Clark, born in Harford, Cortland County, NY. She is the mother of Uriah Clark, born 17 May 1829 in Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. I have absolutely no information on Uriah's father, or dates of Joanna's birth or death. I don't know where to turn. Uriah died in Harford, NY, and the record of death only listed that his father was born in Lisle, NY. Not even a name was given. 1. In memory of Dan
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. In correspondence with a close family friend of Dan and his wife, I was informed that his co-workers in Virginia are putting together a memory book for his wife. "if there is anything you or others that knew him would like to convey about Dan - a nice memory or funny story I can put it in the book. We are holding a small memorial service for him next Thursday and we'll give her the book then." Dan died of a massive heart attack. He was at work alone Friday afternoon, found by the director when he had not returned home. For those wondering what Dan looked like, a page showing him loving life - http://users.erols.com/weiskotten/maggie.html If you wish to contribute to this memory book, please send such to - [email protected] - I'll then pass those along to the lady who is putting the book together. Please use a subject line - memory book for Dan, or some such so I can find it among my other mail. Unless you post directly to this list, such notes / information will remain private. Tim Stowell [email protected] Please feel free to post this on any other list.
