    2. Patricia Givens Warner-Woolschlager
    3. I am writing once again, hoping that there is someone new on these lists that will have information for me. I am seeking the parents/siblings of Samuel Givens born 1763 in Ireland, died 2 Mar 1847 in Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. and his wife Jane King born about 1770 and died 23 Feb 1841 in Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY New York  Samuel Givens, immigrant ancestor, was born in Ireland, and brought up in England. He came to America with his father, when a young boy. His father's name is thought to have been Samuel. He fought in the war of the revolution in 1776, when only sixteen years of age, and his father was in the same war. He lived in Orange county, New York, where he married Jane King. He moved to Dryden, Tioga County, New York, in 1804 (Dryden was annexed by Tompkins County in 1822). He had a large grant of land there from the state and this was very likely given for services rendered in the revolutionary war. Children: Amos, Charles, William, Margaret, Letty, Sarah, Katie and Jane. The above Information was found in Cutters Genealogies: Complete citation William Richard Cutter - NEW YORK GENEALOGICAL AND FAMILY HISTORY OF CENTRAL NEW YORK Volume 1 published in 1912

    1. FEETER Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Elizabeth FEETER which was taken at the Hyatt Studio in Cortland, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Elizabeth likely a teen at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I believe that this may be a photograph of Elizabeth Markell FEETER b. 1 Mar 1891 in Truxton, NY to parents Frank Brockett FEETER and Ella Mae LOUCKS. Records indicate that Elizabeth died 8 Sept 1957. In 1910 the family was living in Cuyler, NY with census records providing the following information regarding the family: Frank B. FEETER, age 46, married 25 years, born NY, parents born NY, a Farmer Ella M. FEETER, wife, age 47, married 25 years, 6 children/5 living, born NY, parents born NY John M. FEETER, son, age 23, born NY, a Farm Laborer Elizabeth M. FEETER, dau, age 19, born NY Albertus C. FEETER, son, age 17, born NY Norman L. FEETER, son, age 15, born NY Marion A. FEETER, dau, age 11, born NY Joseph WOOD, hired man, age 26, born NY, parents born NY, a Farm Laborer In 1920 the family remained in Cuyler, NY with census records indicating the following: Frank B. FEETER, age 56, born NY, parents born NY, a Dairy Farmer Ella FEETER, wife, age 57, born NY, parents born NY Marion FEETER, dau, age 21, born NY Harold CORBIN, laborer, age 23, born NY, parents born PA/NY, a Dairy Farm Laborer I'm hoping to locate someone from Elizabeth's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. THANKFUL MOON
    2. Renne M Blocker
    3. My great great grandmother was born THANKFUL MOON in 1820 in NY state. She died 21 Jan 1911 in Topeka, Kansas and at the time of her death her name was THANKFUL LATHROP. She married Horace LATHROP 11 Nov 1838 in Cortland, N.Y. It has been rumored that she might have been full blooded Iroquois Indian but I have not been able to confirm that. I have plenty of information on her after she married but have not been able to go back any further than her birth in 1820 and I'd like to know who her ancestors, parents and siblings were. In the 1820 census of Cortland County NY(Truxton) there are two MOONS listed one is a Joseph and the other is a Thomas MOON and I feel that either one of them may be the father of my Thankful as she was married in Cortland County. There were no birth or marriage certificates in that area at that time and I checked with Kansas and they didn't start issuing death certificates until late in the year she died-- 1911. Any help you can give me with this MOON family will be greatly appreciated. I am hoping that someone on this list may also be an ancestor of the MOON family that was in that area or the LATHROP family and may have some information. Thank you in advance. Renne Blocker

    3. From time to time items come across that are beneficial for the public at large - and this is one of those cases. Many of you know of Sampubco, a company that provides copies of various kinds of records. But some of you may not. I've written the owner of the company and asked him to respond to this note giving an explanation of his company and/or services. Perhaps too, he can let the lists know what specific items he has for these three counties. From a note I received from a relative of mine, it appears that this company will offer you significant savings over what the State of New York law compels county clerks to charge for copies of Wills and other vital records. Mr. Samuelson, you have the floor. Tim

    1. computer crash / illness and other fun things
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Last Thursday, 12/30, I had a computer crash shortly after starting work on the machine. I got the lovely blue screen of death - and it was. It was not a lovely scene as I worked and worked to try to fix it, finally giving up. It took me all day to convert 4 computers into 2. Now I'm upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 98 Second Edition. From a P166 to a P3-600. Yes, behind the curve. I had had 2 hard drives in my main machine and I had to split them apart on two machines. Consequently I'm trying to find files for some were on one drive, some on the other. What this also has 'allowed' me to do is clean house, toss some files and some old emails as well. Prior to Christmas my email count stood at about 475,000, so it was time to do some cleaning. This also gives me the opportunity to re-evaluate where I am on each site and make some tentative plans for 2006 regarding them. Then on New Year's Eve I started coming down with sinus and/or worn out from driving 700 miles home in 13 hours from Rockford, IL, sitting in traffic for a good little bit in Nashville before finally getting home. Now nearly 10 days later the sinus ick is still with me, though I am able to work more on the computer. Yesterday my ISP started having routing problems with the folks out beyond them, so today connection has been off and on. Hopefully they'll get this up soon and I can send you a report of updates made in January. Tim

    1. New Year's Resolutions - 1852
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. NEWS FLASH. 1852 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS SOLVE GENEALOGICAL MYSTERIES. It is New Year's Eve 1852 and Henry Guesswell sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New Year's resolutions. 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year. 2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same names that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row. 3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never list the same age or birth year twice on any document. 4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different church -- either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every third child will not be baptized at all or will be baptized by an itinerant minister who keeps no records. 5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least once every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around asking silly questions. 6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no vital records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every few years. 7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in record keeping or in participating in military service. 8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which has been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink. 9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry another Mary. 10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer? RootsWeb Review 28 Dec 2005 (modified)

    3. Thank you for replying. I believe Mary Nellie Russell Munson was a sister to Austin L Russell who married Ethel Elwood. Mary & Austin children of Greene & Julia/Juliette Rice Russell of Vestal Broome County, New York I would like to prove this. I don't have Mary Munson's death date to look up her obituary. I did find a Mary Munson b 1904, d 1972 in Cortland, who may be her daughter. 1. the loop and the reward
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. Sometimes I do have a life outside my genealogy hobby - but then that's another side of life. Sorry I was out of the loop or on the loop to see relatives this weekend, first delivering a painting to a cousin in northeast Alabama, then traveling with my gravatationally challenged cat Muffin, to my parents house for an over night stay. This was complicated by a migraine which was not fun. However, bonus round ensued wherein I got permission from my 2nd generation Mom packrat to cart off several years of newspapers for purusing before recycling. Obits and not much else will be siphoned off. Added to which were a couple of blanket facings and some star shaped trivets or more blanket stuff (shows what little I know about such), an old table stand clock to take apart for jewelry making, an old fashioned knitted wool hat, a tiny felt hat, sheeting and some other stuff with questions about and promises of more goodies to come. We came across Mom roller skating skirt from the '30s or '40s, a fur purse, a quilt or two all stored away a long time ago in cedar chest that Mom had misplaced - which at 5 plus feet long is a pretty neat trick to do. So despite the wicked headache, there were some great bonus items. Last but not least, spending some quality time with my parents, both now in their 80s, Dad still working and both more or less in good health. I know how blessed I am and for that I am thankful not only at Thanksgiving just past but the whole year long. Back in the sandbox. Back to transcribing and seeking more data. If I don't get the chance to say it before the coming holiday, may each of you be blessed with the family you have, treasure your times together. Merry Christmas one and all, Tim
