    1. help in looking up in a 1910 city directory for Charles and Emma Lucas daughter Wava
    2. M. Joan Meddaugh
    3. If someone in the cortland area could go to the library and look in a city directory for 1910 for the family of Charles and Emma Lucas I would appreciate it very much. It seems no one can find them in the 1910 census. Charles might have died before then and Reno might still be living at home. Perhaps Wava as well or she might be married and her surname would have been Tompkin as it was in the 1920 census and was listed as a widow living with her mother brother Reno and his daughter Beverly J. Wava was born in May of 1894 in Sherburn, NY and moved to Cortland/Cortlandville when she was about 6. Or if someone could take the time at the library to look for Wava and family in the 1910 census that would even be better but so far there has been no luck. The 1910 census is the only year I am missing for her when she lived in Cortland. Any help given is greatly appreciated. Joan

    3. Just a quick note to let you folks know I've not disappeared. I did have an eventful summer, mostly in July with a near drowning experience in a whitewater accident in the Olympic portion of a local river. Today I reached the point half the distance between now and 1900. I'll report further when I get some more time. Off to feed the animals, gather supper. Tim

    3. If someone would be so kind as to locate the following obits for me. Beverly J. Lucas Rawlings I don't' know who her husband was but am thinking this to be her second marriage as her last name was Owens before that in 1966. Her father's name was Reno Lucas who died in 1966. Her mother died at least when Beverly was age 7 as she was living with her father Reno and her grandmother Emma in 1930 in Cortland Beverly was born about Oct. 1922 in Cortland and died in Cortland on April, 23 1990. Any help is appreciated. Also looking for an obit for her aunt Carrie A Marbel. Last known address was Canandaigua NY. She was born in 1892 and may have lived in Sherburn NY. at least that is where she was as Carrie A. Lucas with her parents Charles and Emma before they came to Cortland. Carrie died in Sept of 1968. Any other information about these people will be gratefully accepted. Joan

    2. M. Joan Meddaugh
    3. Hi List, I am hoping to get help for finding a number of people both in Obits and city directory 1. Charles Lucas born about 1867 died between 1901 and 1920 in Cortland/Cortlandville, NY 2. Wife Emma b. 1872-/77 lived in Sherburn with husband Charles and family in 1900. 3. In 1920 I find them in Cortland/Cortlandville but only Emma b. 1877, Reno b. 1902, his daughter Beverly age about 7, wava daughter of Emma but now her name is Tompkin or Tompkins. 3. I find Wava listed as Wava Lucas in the 1930 Census living in Cortland. She is living with a roommate. 4 Sometime between 1945 and 1947 Wava Lucas married my uncle William Swartz and they lived as husband and wife till 1978 when shed died and he died in 1981. Both are buried in Homer. 5.Other children listed with Emma and Charles in 1900 are the following. Claude, Munroe ( Monroe) Reno, and Carrie along with Wava. Sure would like to have help in finding obits and any other info that one might comeup with. Also can't find Charles even though he was born in NY before 1900 either. Thanks in advance. Joan

    1. Will and wava obit
    2. M. Joan Meddaugh
    3. Thank you to all that helped find the obits for Will and Wava Swarts. I really appreciate it. Now I need to find a wedding announcement for them sometime after 1946 and by 1950. Since they both lived in Cortland for so long I am guessing that is were they were married. Wava lived there since she was about age 3-5 and Will at least 10 years. Thank you. After looking at the last census for Wava Lucas which was her maiden name it indicated the place of residence was Cortlandville which I guess was apart of the town of Cortland. Joan

    3. Since my last report of 6/25/06: Chenango County: Nothing to report except that another chapter of the 1880 history is ready for coding. ============================================================ Cortland County: Marriage and death notices from Cortland newspapers: Cortland Democrat - 1875 and 1876 Cortland Repository - 1814 - 1824 Cortland Republican - 1815 - 1821 http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycortla/crtdvlle.htm or http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/cortland/crtdvlle.htm ============================================================ Madison County: Nothing to report. I have though received a note from someone who claimed that in 1860 the writer Herman Melville was living in Lenox. Whether that's true or not, it is intriguing to say the least. ============================================================ Not near as much rain as you folks have had. Wish you could have saved some and sent it here as we are 9 inches below normal. Even though only Cortland county has anything to report there are references to Chenango and perhaps Madison county towns therein. I trust you all are having a safe and happy 4th - number 230! Tim

    1. marriage licence for Will and Wava Swartz
    2. M. Joan Meddaugh
    3. If someone in Cortland Co. would be willing to go to the country seat and check for an marriage licence for William and Wava Lucas Swartz in the year 1947 I sure would appreciate it. I don't know if the county seat is in Cortland or where it for sure. But if someone would be willing to do this for me I would appreciate it. Actually the licence that would be in the county seat is better than a copy that is in the Town Clerk's office and it is cheaper as one only has to copy the record of the licence for the price of the copy that is about .50 cents rather than spend $10.00 and have them to spend more if they can't find it in the year I think they married. Or if the individual doesn't want to make a copy for me at least would they take time and see if they can find the year and month and perhaps make some notes from it? I am mainly interested in finding out the complete date and who stood up with them. Will was born in Potter Co. Pa April 1895 and his parents were David L. Swartz and Nora Wheeler Swartz of Ulysses, Pa. All I know about Wava is that she was born in or around Homer, NY. But when Will and Wava met they both lived in Cortland and both worked for Wickwire.. Sure would appreciate the help. Joan

    3. I am looking for two obits and a marriage licence for William Swartz and wife Wava. Will was born April 28, in Ulysses, Pa. to David L. Swartz and Nora Wheeler Swartz. He died Nov. 1981 in Cortland. Wava I think her maiden name was Hunt but not sure was born May 4, 1894 but not sure where she died Oct, 1978 in Cortland. I am also looking for a marriage for them that occurred between 1930 and 1945 even perhaps as late as 1950. I have a picture of them which I think is a wedding picture but there is no date. Perhaps someone could check in a city directory for them at the local library for me starting with 1930 when I know he was living in Cortland up to the year 1950. If you find them please let me know. They are my aunt and uncle and are the only ones that I don't have much information on. Thank you. Joan Beebe Meddaugh

    3. Looking for an obit or any other info about Mary Edwards Borman. born about 1921 to Lewis and Vinta Edwards. Mary was some place between the age of ( one and nine) when her father died. In 1930 she was living in Elmira Heights with her mother Venta, brother Floyd and possibly another brother Lewis not sure if sister Ella was still living at home or not. In 1966 she is listed as being married and living in Elmira. In 1992 when her half sister died she was listed as living in Cortland. I don't find her in the SS death index but that may not mean anything. If someone could check a city directory for me for the year 1992 give or take a few years I sure would appreciate it. Or perhaps they might run across an obituary of her. Sure would appreciate nay help in locating her and her family. I am a cousin of hers. Joan Beebe Meddaugh

It lists the marriage of Anna E Tyler of Virgil and Thomas R Space at the home of the bride on Dec 23, 1872. It also lists the marriage of DeEtte S. Tyler to Archibald Givens at the home of Anna E. Tyler on the same day. Does anyone on this site know if these girls were sisters and who their parents were? Thanks, Patty
