Is Tim Seaberg still a member of the list? He has a query on the Cortland Co. GenWeb site and his address is his old AOL id. Please contact me with your new address, ok? Vicki
Hiram Todd had a dau Emma born in Roxbury in 1851 or 2. She was listed as Emma A. Todd on the 1855, 1865 census listings. However, she is listed as Emma A. Sherwood on the 1860, when she is 8. Did Hiram adopt a Sherwood orphan? Vicki
A few months ago a woman contacted me about my 4thgreatgrandmother Mary Polly Brown; she was married to Joseph Leonard. If this lady is still on the List, PLEASE contact me again. Thank you. Audri Badman-Chasteen
It took me FOUR shots before I guessed at the right section. I guessed first that it would be under source data, then under submitted information, then under volunteer submitter page, then by process of elimination (pretty sure not under Military, GenWeb, or Queries,) picked Geographic Information. I had not been to your website before (I have a very minor interest in Cortland Co and stayed subscribed to the maillist because it is not too active). I think I have a similar problem on my Erie Co (PA) site, where I have all historical society links under a topic of County Resources, under the Resources section. People are always asking where the link to the Genealogical Society is. Thanks to everybody who helped my with my redesign problem. I have solved the situation by specifically mentioning the Historical Society on the front page. Vicki
When I designed the front page of the website, I took Historical Society links off the front page. Since that time, users have had a problem finding the pages. Could someone who hasn't been to the site in a while try to find it and see if it seems logical to you. Vicki
I arrived at my cousin's around 6 PM yesterday afternoon. Then snow started falling. We apparently got about 3 inches of snow. For a guy from Georgia now living in Tennessee - it was a special treat. I know for those of you who see it day after day, week after week - its a pain but for this brief amount of time, it is a big deal. I hope to be visiting several folks I've met online this coming week - from Oneonta to Cazenovia and several places in between. I doubt I'll do that much research for myself but will instead concentrate on what more resources I can find to include on the web sites. If I've not contacted you before and you'd like to get together while I'm here, please give me a shout via email. Tim
Yes please

I've just finished the transcripton and posting of the History of Richland County, Wisconsin - 1884 version. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wirichla/history.htm It only took me 20 months to do... There are numerous mentions of persons born in central New York State that ended up in this county. I even found one of my own relatives, CARPENTER, that I'd been looking for over the last 15 years - landing in this county with some of his children - and subsequent generations. Many of the surnames mentioned on the Biographical section are surnames common with central New York state. If you seem to be missing a generation or a family member, why not take a look and see if like one of my missing members, yours too ended up in Wisconsin. Next begins the transcription of the History of Crawford County, Wisconsin. Tim
I am trying to find a concrete connection between PETE FELIX WIESMER and his son GEORGE. 1830 Census has PETER living in Homer with one male under 5 which I believe is GEORGE. Geroge's Civil War record and His Death Certificate both has him being born in Cortland County in 1827. For purposes of joining the SAR they will not except Census prior to 1850 for the usual obvious reasons. Now the Death Certificate has problems also, It shows that Peter was George's Father but the Name was is spelled WIESMORE which I have no problem with for mine is spelled Weismore. The other thing is that for His Mother the certificate has Elizabeth as his Mother but her name was Perlina, Elizabeth was his wife. I hope you can see my dilemmas. I guess my question is where would I find evidence of George's Birth in Cortland County in 1827? What church was in the area at the time and is there any records that might be available? Puzzled, Jim Weismore
I've heard that some people haven't been getting list mail. Don't know when this happened, but I have collected up all the messages since that long weekend outage. If you would like a copy, please let me know. I would post it to the list, but the letters are attachments and the list doesn't allow them. I can do the same for the missing GenConnect if anyone would like. Vicki
Hello Vicki and All, Finally someone who sends out a message about the Rootsweb Archives. Thank you Vicki!!! You are super and one of a kind. I have been having problems and have not been able to browse or search any of the Rootsweb Archives beginning when they were off doing some type of thing. First part of March? Occasionally I have went back to List sites, still not able to browse or search. Not Cortland-others. Brooklyn, NYC Roots, Queens Co., NY, I gave up trying on a few others. I am also not receiving all of the Lists/Digests that I am subbed to. Sporadically I am getting Brooklyn, Westmeath, Dublin. But only sporadically. I know this is not relative to the this List per say, but am so glad at least I know I am not alone in problems. One, possibly two researchers in Florida also relate same problems. Just wait it out. What else. I thank you so much. Judith Mullally-Boatman judith@mtco.com

There seems to be a problem with the GenConnect system. Even though we don't use the GenConnect system for the bulk of queries on the Broome and Cortland sites, thought you might be interested. The following notice is posted on the GenConnect pages: GenConnect User, Please note that recent GenConnect postings for portions of February 2001 are NOT currently archived on select boards. Recent maintenance has uncovered a drive failure resulting in select messages from February 2001 being excluded from the current archive. This advisory pertains to select postings for the month of February 2001 ONLY. Recovery efforts are currently underway to restore these February postings as thoroughly and quickly as possible. During this time, GenConnect is fully functional and new posts can be submitted as usual. Thank you for your patience during this process. Vicki
Found a site tonight while looking for something else, but I thought I should probably pass it on. This is a site for photos others have rescued. A couple of them have the names of Watrons or Watrus - both are often transcription errors of the Watrous surname. If you have Watrous's in your line, you might want to check it out. http://www.lostleavesphotos.com/ Vicki
Found this in the in-box tonight. Thought I would pass this on for any Stevens researchers out there, quickly. I will be posted it to the website after I rename the Rescued Treasures section to Found and Rescued Treasures. Recently I was on a business trip with my husband to Louisiana and while I was in an antique shop I noticed a beautiful Bible, very old and in great shape. It was in a locked case with a note that it had family genealogy in it. I had the girl open the case and I copied down the information that was there. How do I post it to your county genweb page? Or should I say where on the page should I post it? Here is the information it contained: MARRIAGE: Herbert J. Stevens from West Groten, New York married Cora M. Knight from Cortland, New York on 16 Aug 1893 in Cortland, NY. BIRTH: 10 Jun 1896, a daughter was born, Margaret Laurra Stevens I hope this can be of use to someone out there. It is a large Family type bible with the old fashioned latch still working on it. It had the most beautiful pictures in it I have ever seen. The Bible is located in "St. Francisville Antiques" storre, P. O. Box 2340, 11917 Ferdinand Strreet, St. Francisville, LA 70775. Phone # (225) 635-0308 Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.
In reference to your comment, Vicky, Snow or Blizzard, I would give anything to be there in Cortland Co., where my ancestor William Fletcher Butman was b in l848 . I'd love to be snowed in at the courthouse! Besides, we here in the midwest just had that blizzard 2 weeks ago, so I would be ready. I'd take my soupbeans and bunsen burner and just camp out! Jealous, Connie Beck Iowa
I hope everybody in Cortland area is braced for the storm. Just caught a weather report that says you have had 10 inches of snow. In addition, another report said Binghamton area is supposed to have 2-4 more days of snow. Hope everybody stocked up on their genealogy data, too Vicki
