Hello all! I've been working on typing up the New Woodstock Cemetery sexton's list (1959) for a long time and have finally gotten the DRAFT list compeleted and posted. This is the 1959 list compiled from the sexton's records and it is only a DRAFT. I have not yet done the usual cross-indexing of maiden and family names I also have a list of later burials that will be incorporated into this list I have cleaned the list up pretty good but expect to find a few more goofs and typos as I work with it further (please let me know if you find any!!!!!). Take a few moments to look at the Research Notes on the NW Cem. front page and see some of the fun that I have with the data in these cemeteries! Go to my main web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/ then down to "Transcripts of Cemeteries" or into "What's New!?" Dan W.
Please note that my Hills ancestors came from Mass and Connecticut and some of the N.E. States is the reason I have posted to those area's to. Like the Skillings of Portland Maine are also part of my Hills Tree. Subject:I don't know if this is your William, but it might well be, assuming he was born in 1811 in NY. This list is a new list to serve those who visit the Rootsweb site NYCentra. The counties involved are: Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Onondaga, Tioga, and Tompkins. The overview for the John Fullers mailing list page more or less sums it up: "NY-CENTRA. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical interest in the counties of central New York including Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Onondaga, Tioga, and Tompkins. To subscribe send "subscribe" to ny- centra-l-request@rootsweb.com (mail mode) or ny- centra-d-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode)." After the membership gets to be a couple dozen or more, I will post a message for a roll call to get things going.
There was a question as to why I didn't post these updates to Broome, Otsego, Oneida or other counties that surround Chenango and Madison counties. The answer is that I don't post to those other counties because I don't belong to those lists. I only post these updates to the mailing lists I host. As the members of the Cortland County list that decided to let me know their feelings on the cross border postings by a 14 - 3 margin in favor of such postings, they will continue. I won't overburden the lists with postings - once a week or so certainly isn't that. Cortland County - there are currently 153 subscribers to this list: 118 in mail mode and 35 in digest mode. Chenango County - there are currently 266 subscribers to this list: 196 in mail mode and 70 in digest mode. new this week on the site: History of Guilford - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/h-gilfrd.htm I've got several more towns to do, and those will be in the works next as I've now finished ------------ the remainder of the 1869 - 70 Chenango Business Directory of which the new listings are for Sherburne and Smyrna. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychenan/1869dir.htm The interesting thing on this is that Smyrna recorded a former member of Congress and a woman photographer. The other thing is that as I read some of these names - I was saying to myself - 'I know these people', for I've got either articles or obits on several of these folks. There are other items planned for Chenango as new material continues to come in. ------------ Madison County: there are currently 260 subscribers to this list: 185 in mail mode and 75 in digest mode. I'm currently working on another Madison County cemetery which I can hopefully report on next week. Now that the Chenango Business Directory is finished I can begin further work on the 1868-69 directory for Madison County. If some of you would like to assist in getting this on-line sooner by doing some typing for me, I won't turn you down. Tim
Yesterday, I recieved space on the rootsweb server for a central NY site. It is located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycentra/ I stuck a skeleton homepage out there, and linked it to my central NY maps. I also have the Cutter's genealogy pages over there. I don't have an official "live" date yet, but I wanted you to know so you could make any suggestions you might want to before the site officially comes on-line. Vicki
Hello, I am looking for any written records that shows Joseph Watrous and Andrew M. Watrous as brothers from 1800-1835. Joseph was born around 1802 and Andrew was born around 1805, both in New York. I know that Joseph lived in Cortland County and married a Lydia Leach and they had at least 7 children. However, I would like to know if Andrew was one of Joseph's brother's. Andrew is found living near Detroit, Michigan in 1835 and found living in Des Moines, Iowa in 1860. Andrew is buried in Iowa near one of Joseph Watrous's sons, Charles Leach Watrous. Thank you for any assistance. Nicky
If Rebecca is on the list, could she contact me? I have a few interesting Rice/Thornton tidbits to pass on. Vicki
Anyone have HEMENWAY or STEPHENS from Cortland Co., NY ca. 1820? Moses, Lawson and Lyman Hemenway are my ancestors. Blessings, Pam
Tim I to appreciate your updates. My ancestor's the Hills, Sanders, Skillings and many others were all over NY and I don't know all the counties or towns or anything else for that matter on all of them. So keep up the good work Stan

In case anyone is wondering, the reason I don't post update notices to the Cortland Co. list, or other lists, I have an autonotify list function built into the website. Currently over 50 people subscribe to the service. That way, I make sure only those people that want the notice get it. If you would like to subscribe to the notice, the registration page is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycortla/chgnote.htm I did this to make sure that when I get to the mode where I do updates every day, the data doesn't not flood people's mailbox capacity. Vicki P.S. Over 70 people subscribe to a similiar function is on the Broome County GenWeb site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nybroome/brcgnote.htm
Melinda, It would appear that the majority of the list appreciates the way Tim is providing data for this area of New York. Please remember that you have a "delete" key. For Tim -- Thank You so much for the time and effort you put into the research you're doing and the information you're providing to the list. Hello Vicki & List Members, Concerning: Webtv access I have several geneaology friends, both use webtv extensively and also have webtv home pages, several in fact. I am also subbed to yahoo e-groups, three of which are owned and moderated by a person who uses webtv To add as way of comment , unlike the majority I do not use windows as I have a MAC computer, lots of folks think us MAC users have problems in regard to email etc. So in answer concerning webtv, I have never encountered any problems whatsoever either sending email to or receiving email from webtv users. In fact, one friend with webtv, I have been and continue to send multiple attachments of graphics to her, no problem sending or receiving. Ask me about AOL, well now, that is difficult one<grin> Webtv is a piece of cake compared to aol. Judith Mullally Boatman
Is anybody having trouble getting to WebTV addresses? Since Jim, the ACC of the Cortland Co. GenWeb site, is on WebTV, it makes the question semi pertenient. Vicki CC Cortland Co. GenWeb site
I want to clarify/restate a question Tim Stowell posted to the Cortland Co. Mailing list. Should update notices to the Chenango and Madison Co Websites be cross posted to the Cortland Co. lists and Vice Versa? Since the queries, etc. have a mandate to have to apply to the covered county, does that mandate also apply to the mailing lists? If so, shouldn't the rule apply to all counties -- Caygua to Cortland, Chenango to Broome, Tioga to Broome cross posts, etc. Broome is an even closer neighbor to Chenango, but the notices do not appear on that list. I have an open mind on the issue, as long as a policy can be set up to be uniform. Vicki Hall Titus CC Broome and Cortland Co. GenWeb
