Looking for my kin the Burt Bro's of Minnesota or any other living kin that is familiar with or working on our family history. Descendants of Joel Hills. This line goes back to Wm Hills one of the Cofounders of Hartford Connecticut. I'm trying to find information on my GGgfa William Charles Sanders born Ny abt 1810 in Cortland or Onondaga County area. This is only a maybe that he was born in one of these counties. But he married my GGgmo Louisa Hills (Dau of Joel Hills & Mary Fox) in Manlius, Onondaga County, Ny in about 1830. Last child born to them was Elijah Sanders who was born Dec 02 1848 in Rome, Oneida County, Ny and this is last known location or possibility that Wm was last known to be living in. There is no mention of his death or anything else. He just flat falls between the cracks. The only clues I have about his life is that he was raised by Indians and could speak the tongue fluently. His wife my GGmo Louisa Hills is buried Waterloo, Blackhawk County, Iowa. Hoping some of you kin out there in Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota will know something about. William Charles Sanders disappearance. Stan Hills/Sanders/Riddle-Brookshier, Sr.

Hello cortland listers, I have just received an email from lady named Gloria, subject line had RE:RE:sorry off topic post -I have been involved and learning a lot of this bad virus, going about, high risk. email was totally empty and the senders email was presented with a _before email address. All signs of this thing which has several varients already and is going through other lists, as well as having hit several friends even with Norton active, the email I received was sent to Cortland L. I suggest highly update your virus software and scan. This is not a joke or a hoax. Judith B.
Well, shoot fire! I found a site online for the Amos Brown WAGNER/WAGONER family who were in Scott and Preble. It is not my Edwin ... both Edwin's were born in August but it is August 22, 1854 for this family's Edwin and his twin brother Edward. Mine is August 30, 1855. Both Edwin and Edward married and died in Cortland County before 1920; while mine died in Hawaii in 1923. Well, back to the indexes.

Hello all - I am at this point for any information on the SOULE/Souls surname in Cortland Co., NY. I am, of course, mainly interested in my gggrandmother, Betsy Souls/Soule (dau. of Willism Souls/Soule and Deborah ______). One source says she was born 1819, Truxton, Cortland Co., NY, another source says she was b. 1818 Schoharie Co., NY. Both sources mention her death as 1848, Truxton, Courtland Co., NY. The one certain that is known, is that Betsy married my gggrandfather Joseph Stewart, had 4, children, Solomon, b. abt, 1841; Alvah, b. abt., 1843; William b. abt. 1845, and my ggrandfather John, b. 1848/49. The 1850 Courtland Co., NY census for Truxton, lists these children, and a wife Jane, and a daughter, Elisa Rose, b. abt 1844. This Jane, as listed in both sources is listed as the second wife of Joseph Stewart, and that she died in Lee Co., ILL, it seems before 1860. Any information on these surname will be much appreciated. Dot Dotsipe@aol.com
I don't know if there are any listers from the Cortland Co. area or not, but on a recent trip to Cortland Co. to visit my mom, I noticed that a gravesite for my ggggg-grandmother had been "worked on" and the person(s) had uprighted the headstone. I couldn't tell if they had did the same to others or not, but if anyone knows of a restoration or maintenance project going on in Cortland Co., I would like to get information on it. My ggggg-grandmother's name is Asenath Preston, wife of Shubael Preston if anyone happens to know... Thanks, Michael Seamans
In the archived queries or surname list about 1998 or 1999 on Cortland County's USGENWEB page (I think that's where I found it, but it could be the archives for this list), there was a query from Leslie Lienert. She was searching the same bunch of folks as I am (Amos WAGONER and family in Cortland County, but I have not been able to contact her by email. She was in Colorado Springs, CO, but she's not in the online telephone directories anymore. Does anyone know her or how to get in touch with her? She and her father were also working on the Civil War soldiers information.

Looking for my GGgfa William Charles Sanders supposedly born in New York. But this may not be so as no one has been able to find him. My Book 330 years of the Hills in America says he was b. Ny., but that doesn't make it so. The cemetery information that I'm showing below could be him as date of birth and his location fits the our family history and migration and since I'm a Cessna descendant and my Wm. could have went to New York fm Pennsylvania though he didn't marry a Cessna. Wm. C. Sanders/(Saunders as family always claimed) married Louisa Hills about 1830 in Onondaga County, Ny. Louisa Hills is the dau., of Joel Hills and Mary "Polly" Fox. Louisa is descendant of Wm Hills one of the cofounders of Hartford, Connecticut. Our branch is via Elisha Hills and Rebecca Loveland. But to move on, many of my Sanders were born in Ny in and or around the Onondaga County area. They eventually migrated to Michigan for a few years and helped in the building of railroads there. Then they moved on to Green County, Albany Wisconsin area. Joel and Mary "Polly" and others are buried Gap Cemetery just out side of Albany Wisconsin. But this is where my Ggfa Joel Cornealius Sanders married Ruehwama (Rewama) Cessna dau., of Oliver Cessna & Martha Ann Baughman. Oliver and some of the Hills are mentioned in the History of Green County. Oliver & Martha's and Hills and my Ggfa & wife moved on to Iowa. I about forgot there was a J. Baughman in Green Co., also and many of the Baughman's were also in Iowa. My gmo Riddle was Mary Sanders and she was born Hardin Co., Iowa. My GGgmo Louisa Hills is buried in Waterloo, Blackhawk County, Iowa. Now can any of you identify this Wm Sanders as being mine. Cemeteries in Muscatine County Page: 618 Name: Wm. I would also be interested in any information about Carr Hill. My gg grandfather and family lived there in the late 1800's. The house still stands, but just barely. Their name was Olds - Amos (b. 1835) and Lois (Hulbert b. 1837). I have his diary from 1887, when he was farming there, but would WALK to Cortland at times. I believe his father Henry (b. 1809), and mother Eliza (b. 1813) lived on Carr Hill also, although I'm having trouble finding information on them. They're buried in the McGrawville Rural Cemetery and that's where I got what little information I have on the 2 of them. Amos also had a brother Melvin who lived close by, and another family member (I believe a brother or cousin) by the name of Revilio or Rovolio. I got these names out of his diary so it's hard to read. Their house is (was?) just about in the middle of the straight-away on Carr Hill Road. My grandmother stayed there with her grandparents (Amos & Lois) when she was about 6 years old (which would have been 1904) and told me stories about going across the back field up to the cross road (sorry, I don't know the name) and to the corner furthest from the house to go to the dairy on an almost daily basis, and that there was a school/church located in that area, too. I'm also looking for information on Norman Haskell, who served in the 44th NY Vol Inf (also known as Ellsworth's Avengers) and died at the battle at Hanover Court House in Virginia on May 29th, 1862. He's also buried in the McGrawville Rural Cemetery and is listed at the top of the Civil War monument there. While we're not directly related, I have letters that he wrote to my gg grandmother (Lois - of Carr Hill) and would love to know about his family, and connection to my gg grandmother (they were apparently good friends). Thanks for any help, and please let me know what you find out about Carr Hill. I have a Stephen V. PIERCE born 23 March 1821 in Madison county NY. His death certificate, obituary and a newspaper family history all do not say who his parents were. The history says he was born in Madison county and lived in Cortland county N. Y., where he had lived since his sixth year. So he lived in Madison county from 1821 to 1827 and in Cortland county from 1827 to 1853. I found him in Marathon, Cortland county 1850 census. I found him on Marathon NY Assessment rolls Stephen V PIERCE1846,48,49,50,51,52,53 and Marathon NY deeds in 1845 and 1853 I checked the most likely wills with no luck. Later on, in Michigan, he was listed as a Free Will Baptist. Baptist don't baptize children and don't keep marriage records, so there probably won't be any useful records there. He was married to Caroline HARVEY about 1845 in Cortland county. Unfortunately there are many PIERCE and HARVEY families in both counties. Assuming his father was listed as the head of household in the 1830 Cortland county census there are 11 possible PIERCE's. Subtracting the names from the 1820 Cortland census leaves 7, comparing them with 1820 Madison county census PIERCEs leaves three eliminating 1830 Madison county PIERCEs leaves two both John PIERCE from Truxton. But there are too many assumptions and no proof. There was a large Judah PIERCE family that moved from Madison county to Cortland county but they moved in 1808 to early for Stephen to have been born in Madison county. There is a Samuel PIERCE of Homer who did not have a 5-9 year old bracket listed in th1830 census but had 3 listed in the 15-19 in the 1840 bracket. The 1855 census had him coming to Cortland county in 1823 late enough for Stephen to be have been born in Madison county although not long enough for Stephen to be six. He is the son of Judah who moved from Madison to Cortland county in 1808. There also are many HARVEYs with a daughter in the right age bracket for his wife Caroline in Homer in the 1840 census. Any suggestion on what to do next. L. D. (Bert) Semmelink lambertus.semmelink@unisys.com
