1. [NYCORTLA] who knows which counties to look in?
    2. Hi Everyone, This I got from Minard's History of Allgeny County; Henry Clark is son of Lyman, son of David, whose father came from Ireland and settled in Connecticut where David was born. He came to Tully, Cortland Co. N.Y. where Lyman was born in 1804, about which time David brought his family to Warsaw and was an early settler of Wyoming Co. Lyman married a Miss Spoor, children; Henry born May 30,1835, Anna, Isaac W., Cornelius, Catherine, and George. Mr. Clark died in 1880. Henry has always been a farmer. He married in 1857, Candace, daughter of Stephen Rice who came to Caneadea in 1833, son of Eber Rice of Rutland, Vt. After residing in Wyoming and Genesee counties, part of the time in Leroy, Henry came in 1869 to Caneadea and bought his present farm on lot 69, where pioneer Walter Alworth settled in 1834. It has had but two owners. Mr. and Mrs. Clark have one child, George born 1867, who is a farmer with his father on the old homestead now containing 1184 acres. They are up to date farmers and amongh the very few who built a silo in 1895. Mr. Clark is a Republican. He served as assessor from 1882-1888. George married Carrie d'Autremont. They have one child, Henry L. They are both old school teachers and still students and readers. The counties changes so much, I have looked everywhere and can't find them. I would really like to find David, and also Lyman's mother. Thanks so much, Cathy Obeshaw wind0spirt@aol.com the 0 is a zero

She married (2) LINUS HARE August 31, 1840. He was born September 28, 1811 in Onondaga County, New York, and died February 01, 1883 in Albany, Green County, Wisconsin. Notes for CLARINDA HILLS: Obituary from The Monroe Sentinel Wednesday, February 16, 1898 Mrs. Clarinda Hills, widow of the late Linas Hare, and recent wife of Jonathan Mathers, of this city, died at her residence, on Tuesday, February 15th, yesterday. Clarinda Hills was born in Maulino, N.Y. 1818, was married to Mr. Linas Hare, August 31, 1840. Came west to Michigan in 1844, and in 1846 came to Sylvester and resided there until 18 years ago when the family removed to Monroe. Mrs. Hare was married to Mr. Jonathan Mathers in 1891. The funeral will be held at the Gap Church, Albany township tomorrow, at 11:00 o'clock A.M. The service at the house will be at 8 o'clock A.M. Mrs. Hare was an excellent Christian woman, and many who knew her live to bless her memory. This is my GG-gparents family. Wm. Charles Sanders and Louisa Hills who were married in Manlius, Onondaga Co., Ny abt 1830. Census of 1855 Lincklaen Chenango Co., NY Read on 16 August 1850 Family #1123 William Sanders 43 b. RI OLIVE SANDERS 78 B. RI (I believe the above are the parents of all the children including William, Joshua Jr., Abel, etc. The oldest were b. RI the younger NY.) Other families of Sanders listed in 1850 Lincklaen include: Joshua Sanders (Junior, I suppose) 50 b. RI and his family. His wife Mary was b. RI as was an elderly woman Lydia Champlin 81 who may be Mary's mother. All the offspring were b. NY. Abel Sanders 41 b. NY He appears to be a widower and all children b. NY =============== Although William and family are not listed in Lincklaen in 1855, other members of his family are. They include: #99 George and Olive Baker George was b. MA, Olive RI She is a Sanders as her mother, Olive Sanders 84 b. RI is in household listed as Mother-in-law. Another member Nancy Carpenter 61 b. RI is listed as sister so she too may be a Sanders. Joshua Sanders Sr. must have died by this time. Abel Sanders 46 and family are there; he's been 25 years in town of Lincklaen and born in Chenango Co. Joshua Sanders 55 b. RI has been in town for 30 yrs. His wife Mary 51 also b. RI and children born Chenango Co. George Sanders 57 b. RI has been in town for 40 yrs. ================ Do you have evidence that William went to the midwest in the 1850's? I do think that the families listed point to circumstantial evidence of Joshua (ca. 1769) and Olive (ca. 1772) Sanders being the parents of Nancy (ca. 1794), Olive (ca. 1796), George (ca. 1798), Joshua (ca. 1800), William (ca. 1807) b. RI and Abel (ca. 1809) b. NY. This would indicate their arrival from RI ca. 1808 and they'd be counted in the German census for 1810. According to the 1810 census: Males: 2/2/0/1/0// Joshua Sr. would be 45 or under (about 41) William and Abel would be under 10, (about 3 and 1), George and Joshua would be 10 to 16, (about 12 and 10) Females: 1/1/1/1/1// The woman in the over 45 category may have been Olive or Joshua's mother Olive would be in the under 45 category (about 38) Two daughters I've identified are Olive Baker and Nancy Carpenter so I'm missing a third according to the 1810 census which identifies a girl under 10 (???), one between 10 and 16 probably Olive who would have been about 14, and another between 16 and 26 probably Nancy who would have been about 16. Of course, they could have had more children after 1810 as well. Guess that's enough for now .. who knows, we may find more about this whole family yet! Hope this is all interesting for you. By the way, Manlius in Onondaga Co. wouldn't have been too far from Lincklaen. There were probably family connections there as well. Please be adivised that Joshua and Olive relationship is only tentative as to being parents of My GGgfa Wm. Sanders. Stan Brookshier, Sr.

    1. [NYCORTLA] WRIGHT family
    2. Dianne
    3. Hi, I'm new to this listing and am looking for some of my WRIGHT family members. I am looking for information on Melvin WRIGHT, b: 1851 Onondaga Co. and his wife, Martha or Mattie, as she was called. Melvin is listed in the 1889 Homer directory as an engineer at the Homer waterworks. He had at least 2 children that I know of, Melvin Jr and Ethel. Was there an 1892 census for the area of Homer? I have pictures of Melvin Sr. and Jr, and a couple of unknown pictures that may be related to his family. I also have a baby picture of Ethel's son. I would like to know where Melvin Sr. and Mattie are buried. I haven't a clue as to when they died, but I'm sure since Melvin Sr. wasn't mentioned in one of his brothers' obit, that he died prior to 1926. I am interested in finding descendants of Melvin or possibly more family pictures and sharing of information. Thank you, Dianne

    1. [NYCORTLA] MAP OF THE AREA TO HELP UNDERSTAND WHERE YOUR PEOPLE WERE
    2. I just discovered MapQuest in the last several days thanks to a new found friend and fellow researcher. For those of you who are like me and can not get a grip where all the places your ancestors were in the general area of Manilus, Truxton, Cazenovia, Lincklaen and other place's in Cortland, Onondaga, Chenango, and Oneida Counties. Then do your self a favor. Go to the following url. MapQuest.com MapQuest.com When you get there on the left side of the page I entered Lincklaen and Chenango Co., I don't know if the county was necessary but it still worked. You will have to play with moving the map around and enlarging it. But it sure list many of the place's that my ancestors were in and places them in perspective where I know to look for them. Hope this helps all. Stan

I am searching for any information on Samuel Givens. according to "Cutters Genealogies and Family Portraits of Central NY, Volume 1, page 101 "Samuel Givens, immigrant ancestor, was born in Ireland, and brought up in England. He came to American with his father, when a young boy. His father's name is thought to have been Samuel. He fought in the war of the revolution in 1776, when only 16 years of age, and his father was in the same war. He lived in Orange county, New York, where he married Jane King. He moved to Dryden, Tioga County, New York, in 1804. He had a large grant of land there from the state and this was very likely given for services rendered in the revolutionary war." Six of his eight children were born in Montgomery, NY. Census in 1790 shows him living in Montgomery, County of Ulster. He died in March 1847 and is buried at Green Hills Cemetery in Dryden, NY Any kind of information would be greatly appreciated "Genealogy is the art of irritating the living and confusing the dead!"
