I am looking for any information on the Clark family from Scott, Cortland County, New York. Freeman Clark Sr was married to Naomi Boyington. He was born 1775 in Connecticut and she was born about 1779 in Vermont. He is found in Allegany County in the 1855 New York State census married to Catherine. Freeman and Naomi had at least one son, Freeman Jr. who married Serepta Havens. Freeman Jr was born about 1805 in Cortland Co. I am looking for information on other children of Freeman and Naomi. I am also looking for information on the children of Freeman Jr and Serepta. I also need to know a death date for Naomi and where she died. Any help would be appreciated. I can speak only for myself when I say that the folks who create virii are to me just as dangerous as those folks halfway around the world as they terrorize humanity. While computer virii do not kill or maim individuals they do cause untold trouble, wasted time and money that could be used elsewhere. That said, the quote below is from the April 24, 2002 Rootsweb Review - No, RootsWeb.com is not sending you a virus or worm in an attachment -- no matter what these "forged" addresses with RootsWeb name in it say. Be sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date and that you use it. Never open any e-mail attachments unless you have confirmed with the sender that she or he did indeed send it to you for a reason. Do not assume that the attachment came from where it says -- these sophisticated worms are able to forge addresses and they are fooling lots of people. Some even claim to be "worm removal tools." Don't believe them. The Klez worm has been able to spread because of a security vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer (browser) and because many people do not update their browser and download these patches. Don't risk the loss of your personal and genealogical data: Update your browser now: [2-line URL]: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/q290108/default.asp/ Most antivirus vendors, such as Symantec, McAfee and Sophos, offer Klez patches. Is your computer virus free? Find out at: http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ ---------------- Additionally the following sites offer FREE virus checkers and/or software: http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.htm or http://www.commandondemand.com/eval/index.cfm or http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/activescan.asp?language=2&Country=63 &Partner=1&Ref=EN-PR-AS-107 -------- I rarely send attachments - and do not do so without prior notes to the persons I do send attachments to. If you can pre-screen your email before downloading it, do so. Just because an email appears to be from a friend - if it shows an attachment check it out beforehand for most likely it is not from your friend but has had their address forged. The bad thing about the Klez virus is that it forges who it comes from in ALL cases so that where it actually came from is anyone's guess as the sender's email program, infected grabs an address at random from the sender's address book slaps it on the outgoing mail and sends it to whomever the sender has contact with either from their address book and/or apparently anywhere in their email. This current virus is the most devious one I've seen for lots of innocent folks are getting infected as they open mail and/or attachments they thought was from someone they know. There is even one particular sneaky mail this worm sends out that say that it is Klez removal tools, tells folks to ignore any messages that say hold on, don't run this - so that when they do ignore the safeguards in their system they too will become yet another victim of this virus. Having been zapped before by virii, and fighting it daily as part of my job, I can think of no greater common threat we face. Please be careful what you open and check your system often for virii. Sorry to send OT information to the lists & cross-posting, but I want to make sure that NOBODY gets scammed from this friggin jerk. This person has tried to scam genealogy folks for years with his garbage & lies. This is basically a re-hash of the GENSEEKERS genealogy scam - he sells you a "subscription" for $40 a year & all you get is a list of web links that you can get from ANY search engine (i.e. Google, Altavista, Yahoo!, etc.). PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO THE DIFFERENT LISTS THAT YOU BELONG TO! This is not a chain letter, but a warning for all genealogists. We all know how much genealogy costs (i.e. vital records, SS5 requests, pension papers, etc.). Spend your money wisely & avoid this CON! This person is basically profiting from the hours of hard working genealogists around the world by trying to sell people FREE information! One other thing... A key to spotting scams is that this person uses two things: 1. He uses GEOCITIES web servers for his web site. ANY reputable business will have its own web site. 2. He uses a HOTMAIL e-mail account. HOTMAIL e-mail accounts are the equivalent of buying a postoffice box at a Mailboxes ETC store. ANYONE can get a HOTMAIL account & they are one of the most abused e-mail accounts used by spammers today. Thanks for listening to my OT rantings, but I don't want to see someone get taken by this rip-off! :0) Michael Seamans ----- Original Message ----- From: "BillionsofRecords" <billionsfree@yahoo.com> To: <mseamans@rochester.rr.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 5:48 AM Subject: X: Access Billions of Genealogy Records FREE > Dear X: > > We're sending this e-mail to inform you that you can receive 6 > Days FREE > Unlimited Access to billions of genealogical records connecting > your family > within seconds! > > http://www.genlocator.com > > The best part is unlike other companies, instead of waiting for > your > username and password, you can login within seconds of > signup! > > 1. My great-great grandfather was Charles W. Gardner. His birthplace was Jerseyl Isle we believe but now I am not too sure since we can't seem to find any information. His parents names were Henry W. & Elizabeth (Bradley) Gardner. I found that in 1860 they were listed in the New York Cortland town of Homer census with a Martha Twentyman living with them and Henry was listed as a Gentleman for the occupation and 71 years old. I am looking at any information on the family name Gardner. The family was supposed to have came over to the United States when Charles was 17 (1851-3). Henry and Elizabeth returned home to England and demanded that Charles come with him but he was in love and remained and married Martha Twentyman in 1862. This story has been consistent with everything that we do have but haven't found anything in England. I now have a listing in the Cemetary that lists Henry Gardner dying in Cortland New York so I don't believe they went back to England. I am not sure where to go from here. This was a 19th century carriage/wagon company in Cortland. I think it eventually moved to Detroit, taking many of its Cortland employees with it. Has anyone ever heard of this company? Is anyone familiar with its move to Detroit, causing many Cortland families to move to Detroit to maintain their jobs? Thank you. Sue
I have been reading the Centennial History of the Town of Dryden, 1797-1897. by George E Goodrich. There is a reference to "Festal Gathering" Nathan Bouton's history of Virgil........ Does anyone know of this book? Where can I get it? "Genealogy is the art of irritating the living and confusing the dead!"

Hello all: I have finally loaded the maps of Lincklaen, Pitcher and German from Beach Nichols' 1875 Atlas of Chenango County onto my web site. Not only do I provide great copies of the maps, but full name indexes as well as the Business Listings and an index of the other places such as schools, cemeteries, saw mills, stores, etc. that are mentioned. These maps are outside of the usual Cazenovia, Fenner and Nelson region for my web site, but since I had to be working with them for my "Cazenovia Establishment" (i.e Holland Land Company) research, I have posting them on my site for all to see and enjoy. I've got a lot of other local historic maps on my pages and I'll keep plugging on the rest of them to fill in the collection. Go to my main page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/ Run down to Historic Maps or go to the "What's New?" page Have fun! Spring is on its way! Dan W.
