Well, it means some servers will be unavailable during this time and we are asking for your patience. For up-to-date information about the different resources, you can visit http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ as the move progresses. o Web Pages: FTP will be down so that changes can't be made to pages until everything is working correctly on the new servers. There will be a short time that the pages will not be available as the transfer takes place. o List Administrators: When the time comes to move list servers, we will be halting operation on the machine to complete the move. We expect to have the machines down the least amount of time possible. No mail will be sent from or posted to your mailing lists. We do not expect to lose any messages. o Board Administrators: Nothing, unless your board happens to be gatewayed to a mailing list then the information for list administrators apply. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we go through a few "growing pains." - RootsWeb Staff

Hello all - I am looking for the father of my great grandfather Joseph Stewart, who is thought to be a John Stewart. Joseph Stewart was born in Warren, Herkimer Co., NY in 1800, & was in Cortland Co., NY abt 1841. It is said that the father of Joseph Stewart, "John, and 5 brothers were amoung the first settlers in the vicinity of Ft. Warren, NY, there being very few settlers in that region when they were there. John Stewart and his five brothers were all in the war of 1812, in which two of them lost their lives." Also, the father of this John Stewart is reported to have come to America in 1745, and to be of Scottish "extraction". It anyone has any inforation or can give me a lead on any of there Stewarts I would be very greatful. Dot
I am seeking the descendents of Harrison Givens, born 8 Mar 1839 on Gee Hill in the town of Virgil, Cortland Co., NY. He was the son of William Givens and Anna Mills. He died on 23 June 1877 in Cortland, NY. He married Mary Jennie Watrous on 17 May 1864. She was born 19 Mar 1839 in Freetown, Cortland Co., NY and died in Cortland, NY 4 Dec 1910. He was a Lieut in the Civil War In 1865, 1866, and 1868, he purchased land in the village of Cortland. The 1865 purchase could have been for a house......but, the other two must have been for a business.........but I have no knowledge what type of business it could have been. In 1860 census for Cortland he was listed as a clerk. They both are buried in Cortland Rural Cemetery. He is a brother of my 2nd great grandfather..........and I have not been able to find any children for them. "Genealogy is the art of irritating the living and confusing the dead!"
I am searching for descendents of Amasa and Anna E Givens..........Amasa was born on Gee Hill in the town of Virgil, Cortland County, New York on 23 April 1835. He was the son of William Givens and Anna Mills. He died in Cortland, Cortland County, New York on 3 Feb 1879. Anna E. was born 17 Jun 1839 and died 17 April 1885 in Cortland, Cortland County, New York. They both are buried in Cortland Rural Cemetery. When Amasa was a young man he came to Cortland, from Virgil, and engaged as a clerk in the mercantile business, which he made his life work. By industry and honesty he steadily advanced until he became senior partner of the firm with which he remained connected as long as his health permitted. He and his wife lived on Tompkins Street, in the City of Cortland. Amasa is the brother to my 2nd great grandfather, George Washington Givens. I have not found and children for Amasa and his wife Anna. "Genealogy is the art of irritating the living and confusing the dead!"
Oops, I forgot to mention that the list is fully cross-indexed with family and maiden names noted in their proper place. for example: Rhoda Underwood Stanton has her usual entry but for people searching the Underwoods and not Stantons there is also: Underwood (see Rhoda Underwood Stanton) with the Underwood families so you can find her. The joy of computers! Dan W. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/
Hello all: A few months ago I promised that I'd soon finish up the final version of the New Woodstock Cemetery list (Cazenovia, Madison Co., NY). Soon turned into later, but I am finally done! There are over 1600 names, and I used many sources to try to get the most accurate information for each entry. The biggest trouble was that the best list available, compiled from the Sexton's records, has the date of burial and not death. So ... I went to other sources such as family genealogies, Death Certificates, obituaries, church records and a list compiled by the staff at Lorenzo State Historic Site to glean what other information I could. It does not make the most complete list possible as none of these represent the actual readings of tombstones, but it is the most complete available (the Sexton's records list many who do not have headstones, so that is an added bonus!). Also, there is very little information on the many people who have been buried there since 1959, so 40 years of burials is lacking. I have included full citation of sources and notation of discrepancies so that future researchers will know what I did (it was not easy, but was worth it!). The New Woodstock Cemetery is an incredible place. It is well-kept, with carefully carved stones dating from the first years of settlement right up through to today. The adjoining church is a beautiful edifice as are many of the houses up and down Main Street. I urge everyone interested to take a drive out this summer to visit this pretty little place. Take the list with you and send me corrections!!!! to see the lists go to my web page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/ Scroll down to "What's New?" and check out my latest additions to my web pages, or Scroll down to the Cemeteries link and go from there. I have NEW READINGS of all of the cemeteries in Fenner and Nelson and I am slowly working on Cazenovia. Dan W. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/
Hi Everyone, Still searching for the surname of Clark; Daniel Clark married to Anna Gilbert; children; Lyman, Gilbert, Schyuler, Debora, Mahala. Known to be in Madison Co. any help with this line would be great. My lead from before doesn't want to give me the information and has stopped emails with me. I think it is really something when you give people the information you have and in return they don't send what they promise. Thanks so much, Cathy Obeshaw

I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are more that 6200 prisoners on record from the state of New York and more than 2300 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of some 13000 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. .I also wish to thank the patience of those regular subscribers for my frequent postings. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask.
