Hi, Is anyone in a position to look up an 1898 marriage for me, probably in Philmont? Or suggest where I might find it myself? I tried the free pages lookup, but they evidently don't have NY state marriages. I live in CA, and really can't afford to apply to NY State as it's become so expensive! And years ago, when I sent them a check to get a death certificate for my grandmother, they couldn't find any! I happened to mention it to Loren Fay some time later, and he gave me the certificate number! So I wrote back with that, and the state finally came through. They kept my first check, so returned the second one I sent, which was very nice. My real grandmother died in Otsego County, Feb 1897, when Dad was 9. Grandpa (Edwin Pier Chapman) must have moved to Philmont before, after or upon his remarriage, which seems evidently in 1898 -- the 1900 Philmont census says he and second wife Myrtie had been married for 2 years. Myrtilla Philip Weed was also widowed, and had lived in Philmont all her life, being the grandmother I knew. I'm guessing that she and Grandpa met on one of his trips to New York City. He was a jeweler and often made trips there to buy and sell, perhaps stopping in Philmont on the way. TIA for any clues or suggestions ou can give me! Jean Chapman Snow Sherman Oaks, CA
